Seriously planning lodging for my next work trip to Baltimore around Capt. James Crabhouse and Heavy Seas Alehouse. Was introduced last year and immediately requested the same run at the beggining of our travel schedule next year. All you can eat crabs and Heavy Seas' IPA, Loose Cannon I think, have been calling my name.

Sadly or happily in my mind. My first two trips revolve around local craft brews. First is to N. CA to go to Russian River Brewing to get my hands on some Pliny the Elder. If the birth of my 4th child didn't get in the way wanted to go next month to get some Pliny the Younger while it's available. Next year.

Speaking of Heavy Seas, before heading to the alehouse, hit up the [url=http://www.hsbeer.com/]brewery[/url]. Try to reserve a tour when the founder Hugh Sisson is giving it. He's a trip. I need to go back now that they've built a new tap room and finished their expansion.

And speaking of Flying Dog, a buddy and I ran over there Saturday afternoon and each grabbed a growler of [url=http://flyingdogales.com/beers/single-hop-el-dorado/]Single Hop El Dorado | Flying Dog Brewery[/url]. It was delicious. For as hoppy as it was, it was a good drinking beer. Which is dangerous considering its ABV.

Spent a long weekend in Charleston for a wedding and tried 2 local beers:

[url=http://westbrookbrewing.com/beers/all/year-round/ipa/]Westbrook IPA[/url] - Another great tasting IPA. Wasn't as bitter, but the floral notes came out nicely

The two beers at the wedding were New Belgium's Fat Tire and [url=http://sweetwaterbrew.com/brews/sweetwater-420/]Sweetwater 420[/url]. The 420 is a west coast pale ale that was quite tasty. Went great with the food we had there.

We used to get Sweetwater 420 here in Va, but there was some sort of dispute with some crappy chain resturant up in northern-effing-Va named Sweetwater Tavern, something with the name. Because of the dispute Sweetwater isnt allowed to distribute in the commonwealth anymore, but that is a damn fine beer, really good. I find it now in the Outer Banks and always pick up a sixer. Their LowRyeder IPA is super slamin too.

Best micro brew I ever had was the RATTLESNAKE IPA at the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Two problems, they don't sell six packs to go and you have to drive to Amarillo Texas to get it. Hopefully some day they will sell it in an internet store. The micro brew had only been open for a few months when I first stopped in around October 2011, when moving to Virginia from California.
I stopped in two more times on cross country trips just for the beer.

Over the weekend, a buddy of mine brought a growler of Tiller Brown Ale from [url=http://16milebrewery.com/]16 Mile Brewery - Bold Session Ales, Georgetown, DE[/url]. A nice drinking brown ale, with coffee and chocolate notes.

Dazed and infused is really good. FirSt time in the microbrew thread so im not sure if anyone has paid respect to Sammie Smith Oatmeal Stout but it is my all time favorite.

It's beer week in my town, lots of beer dinners going on and tastings. Dogfish Head did a tap takeover last night at one place, had something like 25 taps going. Saturday is my favorite event, the beer summit. A 3 hour festival, 80 breweries, live music, $40 for all you can taste.

That's my go-to. I generally find if the scores are 95 or above, I end up loving the beer. That seems to be true whether I see the score first and then taste, or taste first and see the score later.

I'm always proud of myself when I try a beer and love it, then look it up and see it's highly rated LOL. Or the other way around if I don't care for a certain beer. BA is usually pretty spot on with their reviews.

One of the best original tasting beer all time. Their brewery is near the Skins camp in Richmond.

Out of about a dozen "microbrews" so far, a lot of NC brands, I like Hell's Belle best, so far. Like regular Killian's, but a lot tastier.

Out of the worst, Natty Greene beers taste nasty, to me. And some of the other beers have way too much tangy-ness to them. (too much hops?) Blecchhh.

Yes, Killian's, Guiness, and St. Pauli Girl put the Coors/Bud/Miller usual beers to shame. But almost half the "microbrews" that I had tasted worse. Either tasted kinda skunky though I think that wasn't it (Natty Greene), and the other bad ones was like their machine accidentally put too much of hops or something in it, like when a soda machine puts too much carbonation in the drink.

Coors acquired the rights to brew killians a while ago. Maybe things have changed. Dont know. Age is just a number and beer is just something that makes me remember to forget. :)

That has been around since I was old enough to drink. I moved from California 2 years ago, It has been made in Northern California for over 30 years, I think almost all stores carry it, maybe it only started selling in Virginia a little while ago?

I did one of those make your own sixer deals at the grocery store the other day, all SN brews. Pale, Torpedo, and Ruthless Rye.

I believe I've mentioned my love for pretty much any brew Harpoon puts out, but they may have topped themselves with [B]The Long Thaw[/B]. It's a white IPA that's mildly hoppy, with some citrus flavor thrown in to make it really drinkable. I definitely recommend trying it.

Naw I was just being an ass. Sometimes we get caught up in the hot new thing, when the original is still the best. I cut my teeth drinking sn pale ale round '96 when I started drinking good beers. Always solid
