Re: Coaching Staff update
How about Bill Callahan or Aaron Kromer? Both have a history with Bruce Allen and the Raiders and TB.
At Tampa Bay in 2007, Kromer coached an offensive line that cleared the way for the Buccaneers to rush for 1,872 yards and average nearly 327 yards of offense per game. That season, G Arron Sears earned All-Rookie honors under Kromer’s tutelage. In 2006, despite his unit losing a total of 23 starts from injuries, Kromer prepared a pair of rookie starters weekly and Tampa Bay cracked the 1,500-yard rushing milestone. He was the senior assistant for the Buccaneers in 2005, working primarily with the offensive line. The Buccaneers surpassed the 100-yard rushing plateau in 10 contests, and Kromer helped polish the skills of All-Rookie selection G Dan Buenning. Following the season, Kromer was selected by former Bucs coach Jon Gruden to attend the NFL’s Coaches Career Development Symposium. Kromer arrived in Tampa Bay after spending four seasons with Oakland as the offensive line coach from 2002-04 and assistant offensive line coach in 2001. The Raiders’ offensive front was the foundation of a unit that led the NFL in total offense in 2002 – the same season the club advanced to Super Bowl XXXVII. |
Gotta wonder if they are targeting someone for the OL spot who is still coaching in the playoffs
If true, it would have to be minnesota as thats the only team that runs an offense similar to Shanahans. It would be interesting to see who they they'd want to interview though... i can't imagine why an OL coach from any of these teams would be interested in a lateral move to come here. by the same token, i cant imagine why we'd be interested in someone who was just an assistant to be our OL coach here... we've got far too many problems with our O-line to bring in someone who's not experienced. for those reasons, i think its possibly more likely that all of shanahan's top choices have decided to go elsewhere and he's trying to come up with a "plan D." |

that's the only thing that I could come up with what happened with Waufle? I was kind of hoping that there'd be less of the good old boys.. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
So Mann was confirmed let go by the Bucs today.. but a week later really no word from us.. this being after we just picked up some new guys including Embree whom I never even saw tossed around

Does anyone else start to drool when they see the offensive numbers these coaches have put up. I know we need an OL but MAN those are gaudy numbers |
Re: Coaching Staff update
What? we got a Frenchie teaching our QB's (Matt LaFleur)?
Where's Ricky Bobby when you need him. |

I hope its because he is intending to come to us but not confirmed cause he has not signed his contract. I think it was just today that it sounded like the team announced that Kyle would be our OC. One could ask what took so long there but I think we all know he was at home with his wife and new borne baby. So I presume maybe he finally showed up and signed his contract possibly today. |

I hadn''t heard word one on Embree, didn't know who he was, but the press releases, and some other minor background stuff looked real promising. I hope this is a similar quality hire to who we find for the OL. Obviously that is the coach everyone is waiting to find out about. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
You know they tell me we hired some guy named Matt LaFleur to coach our QB's but I'm not sure if we hired this guy or just hired Kyle Shannahan twice.

I also found it interesting that A. Shanahan wanted to hire Zimmerman and B. Visted Urban Meyer at Florida Maybe it's just me but all three of those guys look like (Shanahan, Zimmerman, and Meyer). Not to mention that Shanahans son obviously looks like his father and Matt LaFleur looks like Kyle. Still ditto on the Allen/Gruden connection. It really is scary how much those to sound alike, not to mention the similarities when it comes to facial expressions. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Per Adam Schefter twitter "One move filled an opening in Washington and created another in San Francisco. Redskins hired former SF asst. Chris Foerster as O-line coach"
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
Chris Forester's Bio on SF 49ers website...
Chris Foerster enters his second season with the 49ers after being hired on February 15, 2008 as the co-offensive line coach. He assumed the title of offensive line coach in week 8 of the 2008 season. Foerster’s 2008 line helped pave the way for RB Frank Gore’s third consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season, while also blocking for an offensive unit that ranked fifth in the NFL in plays of 20-or-more yards (64). In the final eight games of the season, the offensive line limited opponents to two sacks per game after allowing four sacks per contest during the first half of the year. During his 16-year NFL coaching career, Foerster’s teams have combined for a 139 wins, which includes nine playoff appearances and two championship games. During that time, he has coached at least one Pro Bowl player in 11 of those seasons. Prior to joining the 49ers, Foerster spent three years (2005-07) as the offensive line coach and assistant head coach for the Baltimore Ravens. Prior to joining the Ravens, Foerster served as the offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins (2004), tight ends coach for the Indianapolis Colts (2002-03), offensive line coach for the Tampa Buccaneers (1996-2001) and assistant offensive line/tight ends coach for the Minnesota Vikings (1993-95). With a total of 26 years coaching experience, Foerster also made an impact in the collegiate ranks, serving as the offensive line coach for the University of Minnesota (1992), assistant offensive line/special teams coach for Stanford (1988-91) and offensive line coach for Colorado State (1983-87). He began his coaching career in 1982 as a graduate assistant at Colorado State after a successful career with the Rams as a center from 1979-82. Foerster originally joined the Rams football team as a walk-on before earning a scholarship as a sophomore. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Never heard of the guy but he's got an experienced resume.

Re: Coaching Staff update
I had never heard of him before, not that I hear alot about o-line coaches, but he has an impressive resume'.
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
It's really nice to have our head coach actually hire their coaches. Excited about what Kyle S and LeFleur can bring. Young guys who are experienced and who've had success before.
Mike S and these guys know what a good QB looks like and doesn't look like. I'm trusting them to figure it out. I see us drafting a QB one way or another in the first 3 rounds. God, this is a dull time for Skins fans huh? Watching other teams play, not too much going on in the last week or so. The draft is months away. I pumped about this new team, now I've just got to wait for 4 months + for some new action. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Well, there's free agency and the combine between now and the draft
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
when does free agency start this year? i'm assuming sometime near the beginning of march.

Re: Coaching Staff update
After mulling over the overall coaching hires. I actually like the staff for us. The biggest issue that I saw of past coaching staffs is that that I got a feel that there were too many chiefs and not enough indians. Too many spoons in the pot. This time around I feel that Shanny is the one and only chief.

So far I like the mix of this staff as well. Clearly, where a coach that Shanahan et al were comfortable with, they went with them, but the assistants all seem solid and reputable. With WR, and maybe strength and conditioning(don't recall hearing anything about that position) left to fill, I am impressed with what looks to be a very cohesive group. I am glad that there are no apparent grandfather clause, or I've got pictures, type hirings, and that each one seems to live up to the threshold MS set, meaning that they know their position better than MS does. Will it all work right? we will see. So far 2010 has been a solid year for me as a Redskins fan! |

Re: Coaching Staff update
It seems some 49ers fans tend to think they had a horrible oline this year under Forester.

I heard a caller on NFL radio today going on and on about what he was worried about with the Vikings and they finally had to cut him off and say hey, you guys are in the NFC Championship game for a reason! lol |
Re: Coaching Staff update
SFREDSKIN talk to me!!...Tell us what you know about coach Forester. I've never heard of him but he's got a resume filled with experience. I guess if Richard Mann is signed as WR coach, the staff will be just about complete.

I got it, it's Chris Foerster. I had seen it spelled a couple different ways, looked him up and hopefully got it right. With the exception of Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFleur, this coaching staff is long on experience. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
The worst O-Line in the league last year was ironically the Green Bay Packers (51 sacks) followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers (50 sacks). San Fran was 11th worst (40 sacks). Either way main thing that makes me happy is the fact that Tom Cable is no longer a candidate to coach the Redskins. Oh yeah, we were 5th worst with 46 sacks.
I feel like we hired this guy just to hire someone, not because we really wanted him.
Any particular reason for this, or just the normal redskins cynicism? I tend to be optimistic this time of year, but I think that most, if not all, of these hires show reflective thought, and not just the throw up the hands and hire someone mentality. Looking at the production each individual coach has gotten from players during their tenure, it sure seems offensively that they all have a pretty good grasp on getting the most out of the players they have been responsible for. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
I have seen nothing from the recent hires to make me less optimistic. Shanny said he was going after the best, and everyone so far seems to have nice creditials. Last year we had coaches in new positions which I think was a problem and didn't really instill a lot of confidence. I can't wait to see these guys in action. Coach 'em up!

Because our first two guys we wanted didn't accept the job, and we have very little to no time before scouting in the college games like the shrine game and senior bowl starts, and this guy hasn't worked with zone blocking teams like the broncos or texans. Thats why I'm being a negative nancy. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
The guy has a solid resume, simply based on his credentials seems like a move that's hard to hate on
