I know of at least one person who has Weeden rated above RG3 as a player. I am not that person.
I do not have him rated over and or above RGIII either. I just see several waisted picks that could be used to help build up our offense between QB, WR, and OL. No need to throw away 3 picks this year and our #1 next year for one player no matter if it's a QB, WR, or OL.

I thought I read some where years ago that coaches care more about QB's technique to see how much they have to change, ball placement/accuracy, and volocity and tight spiral. All the other stuff is fluff the media and fan base love to look at.

RGIII is an excellent prospect and would live him if he fell to us or if we only had to move up 1or 2 spots in which it wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg to do it.

QB: RG3
WR: Colston, VJax, or S. Johnson
OL: Grubbs

I think the advantage this year, over other years is that we can trade up for a player and use our cap space on a fairly young (late 20s) FA class.

Also, I doubt Bruce Allen would trade up if the price goes out of control (given how he's been fiscally responsible in the past two offseasons).
I never said Weeden doesn't have those traits. I'm saying that not only does Griffin have them, but in his case they're even more potent.

And don't discount the mobility. The best part about Griffin is that top tier-elite mobility and the threat of him off the bootleg thereby opening up the cutback lanes for our backs. That threat is invaluable in this offense to the point where we could easily be the number 1 running team next year.

And I know other QB's are mobile but the type of mobility that Griffin brings to the table actually results in running lanes being opened for our backs.
I'm just asking cause I don't know..... but when was the last time an extremely mobile QB took his team to the SB and won it. I'll give you Rogers since people want to compare him to RGIII but to me RGIII is more mobile like Vick, and remember Randle Cunningham etc. help me out.
Mayock and other people like to pull out Luck's one handed catch on a wide open QB throwback pass as evidence of his athleticism.
It seems silly to profess that the guy that lead his team in receiving for 2 years (2008 and 2009) isn't at least equally as athletic.

If you wanna say that Griffin is in another class then sure I can understand that, he's a near Olympic caliber athlete.
But its beyond me how anyone can deny that Tannehill, who was the both the best WR and the best QB on the Aggies, doesn't at least have an equal level (if not is flat out superior) of athleticism then Luck.
To me, and I could be way off base, but your opinions of Tannehill kinda smacks of someone that really hasn't watched very much of Tannehill at all really.

Don't worry about shrugging them off because you're probably the only one that thinks he has them, especially in comparison to Foles and Cousins.

This is a generic criticism that could be levied against any QB prospect.

The irony is that I'm not even a Tannehill 'guy' , at first I begrudgingly watched him after he took the top spot from Jerrod Johnson.
Yeah, I'm with you. I don't get the criticism that Tannehill suffers from greater pocket limitations than Foles or Cousins at all. To me Tannehill has an obvious advantage there. I've seen Cousins panic too many times and Foles is terrible in his footwork.

I understand however I would rather see

QB- Tannehill, Weeden, Cousins
WR- draft
OL- draft

Along with FA
QB- Flynn or PM
WR- your pick but x2
OL- whoever we can entice. Maybe x2

His gives us a lot more talent and players to work with vs. just having 1 pick in 3 rounds and a couple WR's and an OL.

Just because he's extremely mobile it doesnt mean he's not gonna be able to deliver the ball from the pocket. He's already a better passer than Vick was at any time in Atlanta.

If it has happened it's been a while. Still I've been pretty up front about this.

We all know Vick was a dumb ass. There was a point during his time in Atlanta where he just decided to stop studying the playbook and party instead. He was never that accurate a passer in college and it took him something like 10 years before he got a completion percentage over 57%.

And in spite of all of that he got the Falcons to win games and even got them as far as the NFC Championship. This while being the leagues worst passing QB among starters.

I've said time and time again, the worst we can do, provided RG3 doesn't have a tragic accident is actually start to win games again and get to the playoffs on a semi-regular basis. Thats assuming he doesn't develop as a passer which given his game tape is hard to believe. There is little chance that Griffin becomes even close to as bad of a passer as the Atlanta version of Michael Vick.

Also keep in mind the league is changing. It's only a matter of time before an athletic freak at QB wins the Super Bowl. I certainly wouldn't bet against it happening.

Also I know people are running rampant with the whole 2012 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-2013 1st and 3rd price so lets put an end to that right now.
The Rams are seeking a deal similar to what the San Diego Chargers got for the rights to 2004 top overall pick Eli Manning, sources said Monday.

The Eli Manning standard still applies. Two first, a third and a veteran. That would probably translate to a second tier QB, a defensive starter, and a possible starting Guard or Linebacker? Totally worth it to pass on the chance to take an elite QB prospect.
The best part about the NFL you really don't need to spend all this draft picks and you really don't need those types of QB's to get to and or win the SB. Curt Warner was no Luck, RGIII, or Cam Newton. Eli is a slow runner and Big Ben can't run to save his life. Drew Breese is borderline he sucked in San Diego which is why they got rid of him. And then ther is Andy Dalton. I guess this year we will get to see if he is good or an anomaly.

Folks you don't need an RGIII to win the SB just a half decent OL to protect him, a QB who can make all the throws, and some decent WR's who can catch a ball which we don't have other then Moss and Gaffney.
Perhaps you're forgetting that Warner played at an elite level for awhile... Eli played elite in the clutch at the very least.. and Brees is borderline what? Amazing?

So you're content with a hot year or two.. only to wonder what we have a couple of years later... if we will consider the next guy being worth giving up on our guy for? Like the Browns this year? Maybe the only team that had a hot decade without the same QB or equal next guy would be well, us... and people will always bring up the shortened seasons that brought us two trophies... and sure Rypien was good for the third.. but today he is best known for having a daughter in the lingerie football league...

Big Ben is actually considered a mobile QB. In fact his mobility is a big part of the reason he had so much success early on.
Ben Roethlisberger Scouting Report - Scouts, Inc.
Grade: 93 | Key

Comment: Roethlisberger is a big, strong-armed quarterback with above average athleticism. He has quick feet for his size and can slide and improvise to make effective throws downfield. He is the toughest quarterback in the league to get on the ground with great instincts to avoid pressure and natural body strength to break tackles. He has great vision and patience to find his second and third options but can be a bit of a gambler.
As for Drew Bees.
Grade: 94 | Key

Comment: Brees is one of the most consistent passers in the league. He can make plays from the pocket and has the foot quickness and speed to extend the pocket to make plays from the perimeter. He has a great working knowledge of the passing game and excels when it comes to reading coverages and adjusting on the move. He knows how to game plan and sees possibilities as they develop. He brings a great combination of a physical skill set and intelligence to the table.
The one thing that most Super Bowl winning QB's share in this day and age is the ability to extend the play.

And while you may not need an RGIII to win a Super Bowl you still need an elite QB to compete year in and year out.

Curt Warner was a RB for Penn State in the early 80's. Brees didn't come anywhere near borderline sucking as you say.

Big Ben is a huge freak who sheds tackles. I could be wrong, but I believe someone was trying to make the point that Brees and Big Ben weren't guys that teams weren't clamoring to trade up for. Brees was a second rounder and Eli and Rivers were taken before Ben. I believe the point is that there always seems to be a guy taken AFTER the big name can't miss guys who goes on to be great.

I'm not saying we don't make the move for RGIII. Just don't be surprised when someonel like Tannehill or Foles is lighting it up for a team who didn't have to go to extremes to get him. We're always grasping.

He basically said the Shannahans would need to tailor their whole Offense around Peyton and because they didn't do it for him, they wouldn't do it for Peyton. He doesn't realize he's not Peyton Manning, although he's probably right that they wouldn't let Peyton essentially run the show.

McNabb makes it sound like his reasoning is that he already failed in DC, so no way would they try it again with Peyton. Which makes me LOL, because Peyton >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> McNabb.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

Current speculation (Omar Kelly wrote of it in the Sun-Sentinel today & John Clayton referenced it on Mike & Mike) is that the Rams would prefer to trade their #2 pick prior to the start of free agency in order to maximize value.

It makes a lot of sense because as opposed to most years when draft picks grow in value as the draft approaches, free agency can reduce the true number of suitors for RGIII depending on where Manning and Flynn end up. Clayton also said the Dolphins and Seahawks aren't realistically in it so it will come down to us and Cleveland.

Throw in the post-Combine weekend speculation that the Browns are unwilling to part with both #1 picks and that they are planning to go hard after Flynn the cards are laying out for a RGIII-Redskins marriage at some point soon.

From our standpoint, it would also be beneficial to make the move prior to free agency because we'd then know where we need to focus our resources. We can address WR, G and CB via free agency if we know the QB position will be addressed with the #2 pick.

Great post. Pretty much lays it all out as to why we'll probably see a deal get done before FA starts, because it's beneficial to both sides. And if the Rams want Eli Manning type compensation for the #2 pick, I see no reason as to why we won't give it to them.

See I personally would wait if I were the Redskins because I know that Flynn and Manning are both very likely to go to one of those teams. It'll always be us and another team wanting griffin, but when all is said and done, I just think it'll be griffin throwing his beautiful deep passes to _____ come this fall on the skins.

Smoot, Matty, or anyone else who can answer this question- How would a deal be completed prior to FA? Is it that the deal can be completed and finalized on March 8th or 9th because the league year starts then, and FA signing does not begin till the 13th?

Well for all intents and purposes if a deal did get done today wouldn't it just be a handshake deal, with nothing to bind it until the paperwork did get completed? That's not to say both sides would renege on the deal but all they'd have is their word that the deal got done until the paperwork can be submitted to the league office.

^^ the bears pretty much stalled on a deal to their benefit. I always love when someone makes an error that just so happens to be in their favor.

If I were the skins, I'd negotiate hard with the rams. If they want us to agree to a deal in the next 48 hours, I would require them to drop the toss in pick they are probably asking for and hoping to get (3rd or 5th next year, cherry on top for them pick).

Either way, id be pretty hesitant to give up the 6th overall, our high 2nd and 3rd rounder plus picks next year to move up 4 spots. Id offer the 6th overall, this years 3rd and 4th plus next years 2nd.

This years 6th overall, plus 2nd and 3rd should be enough imo. The browns are doing it right by not giving in and offering both their 1st round picks.

I think both sides could "unofficially" announce that a deal is in place.

At that point it would be highly unlikely that one side would back out.

I like the Browns thought process. They already have McCoy and adding Flynn gives them competition and 2 chances to hit at the QB position while preserving all their picks. If one or both work out and they make good on their picks, they could be sitting pretty.

The only way that I see a handshake deal failing is your scenario where a team comes out of nowhere with a substantially higher offer. Hopefully we've planned for that contingency by saying, "Call us before you make any other deal so that we might match it."
Well for all intents and purposes if a deal did get done today wouldn't it just be a handshake deal, with nothing to bind it until the paperwork did get completed? That's not to say both sides would renege on the deal but all they'd have is their word that the deal got done until the paperwork can be submitted to the league office.
I find it very hard to believe that an NFL team would re-neg on a handshake deal. That would make it very difficult for the rest of the league to ever deal with those executives & team in the future. Sounds almost like a career suicide move. If they do a handshake deal then it's done...
Well, they can still make deals. They usually work out. Infact, never heard of a team backing out. I hope they do make a deal, because the speculation is killing me.
I can't remember when a team has backed out, but the possibility always exists that maybe a team did and nobody knew anything about it because it was kept on the d/l.

Either way if they do make a deal before then I would expect it to go down, the only way I don't see this happening is if right at the last minute before the paperwork gets faxed the Rams decide they want more lol.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

NFL.com, Espn.com, profootballtalk.com, the Bleacher Report, all have been talking about the Redskins trading up and the Rams trading back. Within the top six picks, who are they only teams that will make a play for drafting a QB? Washington and Cleveland, right? It would seem that the wisest play for the Browns to make is to sign Matt Flynn in free agency and keep both of their 1st rounders. If this happens, Robert Griffin III, is many predict the Redskins will trade up for, will automatically fall to Washington at #6. This way, the Redskins along with the Browns can keep all of their draft choices instead of trading up.

If Washington wants to trade up anyway, they would be doing so to ensure that they get Griffin III. This is still not a bad move. This year's 1st rounder(6th overall) and maybe this year's second rounder could be enough compensation to move four spots forward along the draft board. Forget about next year's 1st round draft choice.

Biased opinion of course, but if I'm the Browns I would sit on those picks and go after Flynn. I wouldn't toss in the towel on McCoy just yet either.
