Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Sounds like an interesting dinner. Tell us more
Well it was held in one of the private rooms at Crystal City Ruth Chris, overlooking the Potomac/National Airport. Beautiful place. Just appetizers and drinks. Brown and Campbell (who's father is Marion Campbell) discussed their roles and job descriptions. After that the crowd got to ask questions. Tough questions were asked about Snyder, Shanahan, Cerrato and the 08 draft class. In a nutshell, they took the highroad and said that some of the bad decisions were "Redskin" decisions. Campbell didn't hold back on Fred Davis and basically said his issues were on him. He also implied that Devin Thomas had the talent, and I almost felt that he wanted to blame the coaches for that one. Larry Michael also spoke. He mentioned how great a talent evaluator Vinny Cerrato was. WTF?? He defended the decision to draft RG3, which wasn't a big deal. He sort of threw Shanahan under the bus w/out giving any details. Oh...Deshawn Jackson was mentioned. Brown said that Jackson fits 2/3 things they look for, age, health and character. He said..."there are a few things there about character that we need to address"... I found that interesting. Overall a fun night. |

CSN Washington's Tarik El-Bashir reports that Jackson has left Redskins Park per league sources. No contract in place at this time.

Oh well. As the day wore on the less I want him. Just my gut speaking. I still say he is Silver and Black bond. |

Niners have emerged as a suitor. Cali ties, better team. Their cap space is about the same as what we have plus they have to extend Kap. Also, I don't know how Jackson and Harbaugh would get along, but he's a players coach so they may be fine. Whereas this morning I was thinking it was 75-25 it would happen, I'm back to 51-49 with the leaning going against it happening. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
If he did indeed leave without signing a contract (which is what it sounds like), I guarantee you it was a $$ thing. And if that's the case, I'm fine with it. If the skins don't want to hamstring themselves financially down the road, and the price is giving up a potentially explosive but very one-dimensional WR, I'm okay with it. Plenty of amazing WR prospects in the draft.

What grinds my gears around here is the notion that money/draft picks spent on another position was somehow stolen from the offensive line or that we've ignored that position group which is completely false.
my gripe for the OL is that they didnt add a solid RT when there seemed to be a few guys avail for 3-5 mil per. i guess you could put me in the crowd that thinks that if the skins arent going to save some money and transition 11% of the cap into next year, 8 mil per should have been spent on a FS and RT instead of a WR2. in terms of team needs, FS and RT were my top 2 priorities and they have not been addressed at all. either way im happy though. d jax or saving cap space will both benefit the team, just in different ways. |

i hope he realizes kap isn't that great at throwing to WRs.

An upgrade is necessary there and regardless of what happens with D. Jax, I expect one of our first two picks to be a RT with the expectation they become a starter in 2014. There were a lot of questions about the FA tackles (Collins-limited starts, Schwartz-position fit, Penn-position fit/swapping sides) that the FO clearly didn't see any of them as a clear and long term upgrade over Polumbus who has started 31 games over the past 2 years. As for safety, two were drafted last year (with poor results from Rambo and injury Q's on Thomas now) plus we signed two vets in free agency. We're always screaming 'draft and develop, draft and develop' but then are outraged when a position of need isn't solved by a high priced free agent. Can't really have it both ways. We drafted, now lets see if they develop. Also expect this to be a draft priority, Jackson or not. |

Alright, I need to see the link saying that he signed, and the ESPN Breaking News Report.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
More than any other position group, the OL is about fit and chemistry. You threw a bunch of names out there and sure, they are attractive names but unless they all fit the scheme and profile Gruden is looking for, it could very well be wasted money. No team has an 'elite' offensive line anymore because it's not necessary. Have to have a good to very good OL to be successful. Our group can be good.
What grinds my gears around here is the notion that money/draft picks spent on another position was somehow stolen from the offensive line or that we've ignored that position group which is completely false.
You made some good points there; nice post. And I'm not one that thinks the FO ignored the O-line, because they obviously didn't, but I guess I just don't like the fact that they're so willing to spend money at WR, but not O-line. It just doesn't seem right. But your points about chemistry and scheme fit are spot on. |

For O-linemen, drafting is a more effective way because you can pick the profile and then coach them to your scheme rather than trying to change a way someone's been doing things for their whole career and plus truly excellent linemen rarely make it to FA. Those guys available this year weren't 'just a guy' type players but by the same token, they weren't budding all pros either. |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I'm pretty surprised it didn't get done yet, but I think that was more so because of taking care of some other things outside DeSean. Think we're in the home stretch now

Do dads even still just wait in the waiting room? I was in for both of mine. I am good until they start cutting from hole to hole and I am thinking hey I still need that! |
Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
Here we go people!
Honestly I'm hoping it gets done. Just having him in the field alone helps our offense. Then having him on punt return elevates our return team to elite. Yes, the off field issues are a concern. But at this point maybe we need a gym with a fiery attitude like that. I've always hated him cause he talked trash and was cocky, but if he's wearing a skins jersey doing it I think I could get used to it. |

I won't care either way. On one hand, he makes our offense that much better. On the other hand, he can't play safety. |
The fact this team is even talking to him shows they've learned absolutely nothing...and Snyder is still the one making the football decisions.
Way, way too many issues and potential problems here. Too many Philadelphia outlets saying there's more to come about this clown. Teams don't let go of star players just cause they don't "buy into the coach's system". It's no wonder this franchise hasn't done anything in 20+ years. Same mistakes over and over.
These types of posts have already been refuted |
