Re: RG3 and Gruden?
Honestly, the media coverage on the whole RGIII/Gruden thing is f_ing stupid. The tag line is that "We need a lead so RGIII won't have to drp back." What Gruden actually says is far less dramatic: Gruden: We need lead so RGIII won't have to drop back - NFL.com All he says is that "It's important for us to have success on first and second down so we don't have to drop back and throw it 30 times a game, have a lead so we don't have to worry about it," Gruden said. "Eventually, when you get behind, when you get in third down, you get behind the chains, those have to be accomplished -- the drop-back reads, progressions have to be accomplished, and that's something we're fighting through right now."
What's controversial about that? Obviously, our 3rd down coversions are terrible, and we've been in 3rd and long a lot. That's something any coach wants to avoid, much less one piloting a 3-11 team. |
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
So are you comparing belichik and gruden? Or griffin and Brady? Either way your view parallels griffin. You can take that however you want. We are not New England though. Examples can be given in Snarkey tones, but I still think if they wanted a coach to run the offense griffin way, they should have hired one. They didn't. They hired gruden...knowing the type of scheme he was bringing and what direction he wanted to take it. Playi g to a players strengths is one thing. Throwing your playbook away and rewriting your offense because your quarterback can't see his recievers is another thing all together.
What's the "Griffin way" in terms of coaching? A good coach adjusts the scheme and playcalls to maximize the skillset of his players, period. If you don't get it I don't know what else to say... |

McCoy would be fine if he were healthy, but he's not. That leaves Griffin
I'm not saying any of them should be given the job. None of them have seperated themselves. What I'm saying is there needs to be competition in 2015. Griffin should not be given the job. |

When the player is the QB, why wouldn't you rewrite? Or do you prefer losing? |

I don't disagree with that, but for the here and now we need to adjust to RG3's playstyle Save the other stuff for the offseason |
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
RG3 and Gruden may just be our best options for 2015. Tell me a better HC and QB that will be available in 2015 and wants to come here.....

Or do you prefer losing?
I'm pretty sure this is the second offense that griffin is failing in. Check out the 2013 season to see him in the offense that gave him his acclaim in 2012. Oh wait...he was terrible last year. Must have been the line, or the coaches, or an injury, or a scheme, or something that makes it NOT his fault. Or maybe...just maybe, if he isn't running around in a read option, then he isn't that good of a quarterback. Everyone saying to change offense to griffins liking must be talking about a read option...but check how well that's working out since defenses are way more prepared for it since 2012. |

QBs it's easier to know than coaches. FA/draft just doesn't have much to offer in the QB dept., at least nobody who's an immediate upgrade over RG with higher potential. Different story with potential HC's, but sounds like that decisions been made so who cares ;) |

I agree with you 100%..we are better off with Gruden and RGIII at least 1 more year! How bad would it be to get rid of RGIII for nothing and then watch him thrive on another team..This fan base has to realize that the Redskins Along with long list of other teams are not very good and have not been for a long time..this team is not going to get fixed in one season. |

Can I say it doesn't surprise me we haven't heard one thing about the name being offensive once the team started stinking it up, but if we have success, the local media will find a way to make it a story again. Whatever it takes to bring bad media spotlights on this team. That said, it seems like for now, Snyder has got NBC on the team's side. We will see if it stays that way. |

Long pause. Then just no. I'm not siding with the media per se but won't blame them for digging either. One of Grudens biggest problems is he's openly criticized the franchise QB ahead of everybody, including himself. That's a story. You don't have to spin anything to make it newsworthy, cuz it's like amateur hour on the big stage folks. |
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
Smootsmack, maybe you've said elsewhere, but I've tried to find it in this thread and couldn't, is there any talk of RG3's fate this off season. All non Redskins fans I know seem to think it's either he leaves or Gruden does. You've said Gruden will get another year, will Griffin stay?
|
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
At this point it appears to some (like Mike Silver) that Gruden is trying to get himself fired. At minimum it's clear that Griffin isn't going anywhere and it's also clear that he is not Gruden's QB of choice. If he feels painted into a corner where he thinks he can't win, why not try to get out now and collect some cash and then find an OC job somewhere to restore his rep. Another organization may chalk it up to the Redskins stain and allow him another chance in a couple of years.
I'd put it about 20% but I wouldn't be completely surprised to hear of him negotiating his way out of his contract shortly after the season is over. |

Thanks SmootSmack. I wonder what we'd even get for him, and what would they be willing to part with him for? Or would he hold out for a trade? (That would probably be pretty dumb of him) I know Gruden has been extremely candid in his criticism of Griffin, but part of me is still hoping this year was a hard learned lesson that he needed, and Gruden was laying it on thick to drive home the point. That he needed a wake up call, needed to learn to respect his HC, needed to learn to listen to what people were telling him he needed to learn, and that Gruden was somewhat awkwardly being a strong first year head coach willing to break the kids down to build him back up. It's sad how deep my delusion runs huh? |

I wonder what the QB plan is if that is the case because there is no FA out there worth it. |
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
rg3 in my eyes is somewhat a victim , somewhat tho but he doesn't make things easy for himself rg3 is very talented and it sucks when you have a coach who really doesn't believe in you at all. keep it real colt should be bagging my groceries at my local giant !
rg3 much like any successful quarterback needs help his confidence is very shaken the fans fickle as fuck now wanna get rid of him because of the struggles but when you look at the big picture when was he ever put in a situation to succeed at all ? crap ass oline a coach that rather play a back up I mean wtf...and kirk had his chance to shine and he fucking blew it ...the talent is still there for rg3 |

I don't like this plan. It almost feels like Jay Gruden is trying to get fired. I don't think there are any better options at qb for next year. If I'm Gruden I just try to roll with Griffin for another year and make the best of a bad situation. |

On Sunday he was doing well when they had him rolling out of the pocket, for some reason they didn't do it much in the second half. |
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
From a skeptical fan's perspective, I see no reason to go out and get a new QB to run Gruden's dink and dunk offense for one year until Gruden is fired. Colt McCoy and his rag arm will do for that. After next season we can say adios to both Jay and Colt.

It's worst case scenario, so Redskins park will somehow make it happen. |

i think the "dink n dunk" is a result of gruden trying to adjust to a weak armed or hesitatnt Qb. i think the closest we have seen of gruden's ideal offense was when Kirk was working a lot of intermediate routes and using the middle of the field. |
Re: RG3 and Gruden?
Dink 'n dunk also happens when your pass protection is shotty.

No, actually it would involve a QB that can actually find a receiver and get the ball to him. God knows, there have been enough open guys out there... |

I know, I was merely mocking the idea that some people still seem to have of Kirk Cousins being a football god and that all the Redskins problems will be solved if we play him.

its part of the long term strategerie. throw a lot of picks in '14 and put a lot of bad tape out there. then .. BOOM! 2015 we do the opposite of everything we are doing now and it will take at least until week 14 for D coordinators to get caught up to us. think long term my friend. |

only in the world of the internet does someone saying "kirk gives us the best chance to win" actually mean "kirk is a football god". nothing is absolute or black and white. circular discussions like this for the next 8 months until TC starts and everyone will peg the skins as potential playoff team. rinse, wash, repeat. |
