What do you know this may well have been the FINAL Cousins thread!

:food-smil
Schneed, do you think there is truly long term value in Alex Smith, does he have upside? Should we be more excited about him than what KC brought us? |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
I just read an article on ESPN that said two years ago the Redskins offered Cousins a deal that averaged $12.5 million a year. I wish Cousins would tell the true story of what really was offered and his thoughts during his tenure in Washington. I would love to read his diary. I am pretty sure Snyder giving RG3 the keys to the city started things poorly right off the bat. Probably a nice long term contract offer would have made amends, but they insulted him again.
While I don't think he is as good as his stat line suggests he still is better than 2/3's of the starting QBs in the NFL. |

Nope. At some point, we'll have a bad game and a disgruntled Redskins fan will post a "What Could've Been" thread about Cousins that gets shut down very quickly, lol! |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Thanks Kirk for the 3 years but we didn't win jack in those 3. So until this team actually builds a roster right it doesn't matter much anyway
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
We won the division twice while Kirk was here. What dio you mean we didn't win jack?
Once as a back up yes, but you have to go back to the 90s to find another QB that was part of that. |

I do, personally. The window for it is only 3 years long, realistically. But I see this: - Same accuracy, quick release, and ability to read defenses - Smith is more mobile, throws on the run better. Cousins was improving at this, but Smith almost always leads the NFL in first downs gained via rush from the QB position. He's known for killing you on 3rd and 4, when you defend the play perfectly, but Smith gets away from the rush and scrambles for the 1st. - Smith has a much, much better turnover rate. - Smith has a better red zone conversion rate. This may just be a reflection of the offenses they played in. And you have to give Cousins a break for any game where Reed didn't play, because Travis Kelce was healthy most of the time. But still, I think Smith punches it in a tad more often because he can escape the pocket better. I think we got a touch better at QB. It's just a shame we got worse in the secondary by losing Fuller. Valuable player. |

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Fair enough if that is your opinion but I was happy to start being relevant in the division again. Gotta have a ticket if you want to go to the show.

Yes they trapped themselves in a corner, this is why its a clown show. I rather have sent a 2nd round pick and just kept Fuller. And the 5 year deal...like I said before, we need to see the contract, but it better have an out clause after the 3rd year. |

Dude has a chip on his shoulder too and that will fire him up. Kirk will go on to the JETS and suck there I bet u |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
The only thing I hate about the deal is getting rid of Kendall Fuller. Otherwise, it's a great deal and Alex Smith is the perfect QB for Gruden's system. Let's see what the details of the contract will be before we totally go off the rails. I'm happy the QB position is finally resolved. We have a good quarterback in place. Let's focus on building the running game, getting some better receivers, a linebacker, and another corner, lol!
Fair enough if that is your opinion but I was happy to start being relevant in the division again. Gotta have a ticket if you want to go to the show.
KC was 1 and 6 against Dallas
3-5 against the Giants And 4-3 against the Eagles I know they are team games and the D did their share in the losses, but several games can be pinned directly to KC. If Alex Smith just doesn't make KCs bonehead interceptions or end of game brain farts we win several more. I think we will be relevant going forward especially with the qb spot settled. |

Once as a back up yes, but you have to go back to the 90s to find another QB that was part of that.
Whhaa? We've won the division exactly one time while Kirk Cousins was starter. With your logic, we can also say we have won the division with Colt McCoy as well. Since the 'skins started throwing guaranteed money at Cousins, the Redskins have been 8-7-1, and 7-9. His best season, 9-7. Is that what you're celebrating? |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
All three of those years we had shots at the playoffs late in the season. Does Alex Smith do that for us? I think it is a lateral move, but the FO screwed this up we could've had KC for the same amount as we are getting Alex Smith most likely and in the prime of his career and not on the downside. I was looking forward to building toward a SB contender now I feel we are in a holding pattern until the QB of the future is groomed.

What is Alex Smith's record against those teams?Lets not forget Andy Reid's hand in all of this and just how well he knows the NFC East. |

His record against the NFC west and AFC west is good he has an overall winning record against everyone but the Broncos and the Cardinals. Against the NFC esat Dallass 1-2 Gints 2-2 Filthy 3-4 |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
All you guys giddy about getting Alex may I ask what kind of substances you have taken? Most people drunk or high do not use proper grammar and they misspell words. I see none of that, yet the contents of the posts shows people not in their right mind.

Later Kirk. Kind of a sad way for you to go out of town. I guess in the end neither side really wanted each other.

Kirk never wanted to be a Redskin, if he did he would have said that last year and signed a deal, it's not just about the $, he doesn't care for BA, who blatantly called the guy "Kurt" on TV.. It's a joke and I'm glad its over |

Sign and trade or it is tampering.

Good point, premature on my part. I just want it done (and forever hold this against Snyder and Co. like the Haynesworth deal and many other failures). |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Oh, no! Not tampering! No NFL team would ever jump the gun on signing a player, would they? Sure they would. Cowherd may well be sniffing a warm trail that normal human senses can't detect.

KC may have soured on the Skins, but it's all on Snyder and Allen, who failed to properly cultivate him from day one, or more likely ignored him as a Shanahan project of no importance. We seem to have normalized this idea that Cousins didn't really want to be here. He was drafted by us and turned out to be one of our best picks ever given the RG3 bust. It's a debacle that we f'd up the RG pick and a bigger debacle that we f'd up the backup plan. Good teams develop talent and sign them, people like Cousins and Fuller. It's fine to praise the Smith signing under the circumstances, but the circumstances are that we Skins fans are huddled together under the derailed train doing triage, searching for scraps of food, and hoping that the same engineer who crashed the train gets us back on track and drives us to our destination. So hooray for Alex Smith. The deal only makes us a tad worse than we were this past season. But in bizzarro Redskins World, really we're much better because Kirk was going to leave anyway and Colt McCoy was going to be our QB. We've not only drunk the koolaid, we're addicted to it. Meanwhile, the Eagles are in the Super Bowl. Think about that while we debate Alex Smith's cup size. |

We can use the picks in that span to improve the team at our various needs... |
