Seems like interest in Trubisky is legit; Washington just didn't pull the trigger this year before the deadline
Why would they? MT isn't going to turn things around any more than TH can this year, and losing a pick to bring him in when we're already 2-5 makes no sense. As an FA and assuming we'd get rid of Allen, TH or both into the bargain (and also assuming Fitz is gone/retired), it makes sense because you'll need at least one vet to support any rookie we go after. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Trubisky is trash. If he's the week 1 starter next year I'm out.

What if he's week 1 starter but a Rookie right behind him? Also lets understand that Ryan Tannehill was deemed to be a bum too until he left Miami.. Maybe mitch isn't as bad as Matt Nagy is. He's gotta be better than TH |

This. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I actually like Trubisky. He's far from the trash we have right now...
I think Chicago gave up on him too early. There's a reason he was considered a favorite, and one of the safest QB picks coming out of college. The knock on him was always inexperience, and then the fact that he wasn't Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes coming out of the gate. I wouldn't mind at all if they brought him in, and also looked to the draft for a QB. Fact is, neither Wilson, Watson, Ryan, or Rodgers are coming here. Trubisky will be at the top of the free agent QB class. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
If we think TH has accuracy issues, just wait for Mitch. Oy.

I would be fine with this approach. However, if Trubisky is the starter and Heinicke or Allen is the backup then I would be disappointed. |

That chart covers nine total starts. I definitely wouldn't base my overall evaluation of him on a chart some dude put together that spans nine starts. |

He didn't just develop those issues in that one season. I'm also going off what I've seen. He can be wildly inaccurate at times and he struggles with ball placement. I think his mechanics break down too easily and that leads to accuracy problems. He also hasn't handled pressure very well. He's young, could he clean up his game with good coaching? Sure, but I'm just not a fan or a believer. |

I haven't watched him play much, but his team went to the playoffs - twice. More than you can say about any one QB from this team since Mark Rypien. For me it boils down to - I'm not a believer in anything on this current roster, and I'm not a believer that for some reason one of the top QBs like Watson, Wilson, etc. is going to want to come to this shit show... So targeting a Veteran upgrade who was highly touted coming out of college just four years ago, someone with something to prove, with a clean slate, and potentially more weapons than he has previously had, is ok with me. |

He's also been a horrible deep ball thrower, and also god awful in the redzone.
According to Pro Football Focus, Trubisky ranked among the worst quarterbacks in the NFL in deep passing in 2019, where he clocked in at No. 27. The best thing that can be said about Mitchell Trubisky’s deep passing is that it’s no worse than his regular passing, and his PFF grade ranks around the same place in either scenario. Trubisky completed just 34.4% of his deep shots for only 10.4 yards per attempt, and that’s with Allen Robinson II winning jump balls at a high rate. Ultimately it’s just another part of Trubisky’s game that has likely cost him the starting job in favor of Nick Foles, whose numbers last season may have been even worse than Trubisky’s. In 2019, Trubisky threw five interceptions (four inside the 20, one inside the 10) in the red zone in 15 starts. Gardner Minshew, Jimmy Garoppolo, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kirk Cousins all performed far better in the red zone last year. He was also bad accuracy-wise in 2019, completing 50.8 percent of his passes from inside the 20-yard line and an ugly 43.8 percent of his throws from 10 yards out. Only Baker Mayfield, Andy Dalton, Case Keenum and Tom Brady were worse from 10 yards out last year.
|

True, but it doesn't mean it won't translate either. I mean, you don't scout certain abilities/skills with the thought process that those abilities/skills won't apply at the next level. And you just quoted a stat in which Tom Brady was worse than him... All I'm saying is maybe the Bears gave up on him too early, didn't coach him up, he was in the wrong system, didn't have enough experience, etc. Either way, it sounds like they were willing to bring him in, and still might be. I'd take a flyer on a young QB with a winning record, and who has taken two teams to the playoffs in the past four years. He didn't put those teams on his shoulders, that Bears defense had a lot to do with it, but he was the starting QB for both of those teams. For me that counts, and like I said we haven't seen the same QB take this team to the playoffs since 1992. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
QB is obviously a super high priority but the spray and pray approach isn't ideal. Target a guy you think can be the guy here for the next 10 years and go get him, whether it's the draft or trade or whatever. This idea of loading up on QB's and letting them "compete" doesn't usually work out very well. Practice time is limited as it is. You need to focus in on someone.
Spray and pray? lol. More like having a plan and have competition and in the end upgrade the position. The best NFL GM's in the history of the league always draft QB's, even when there is a clear cut starter. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I bet if MT got to play in Buffalo he'd do better than he did in Chicago. Not sure any QB would do well in Chicago. Fields won't be successful there.
Sometimes QB's need more time than others. But not sure I would bring him in here cause he probably isn't any better than what we have. |

I am as well. The tape dont lie. Talking heads who go to the games and see the whole field say we have free runners. It is what it is. I hope we lose out and Im going to try and enjoy the fun things TH does and not dwell on the negatives. Can Deandre Carter lead teh league in yards and TD returns? Jon Allen lead all IDL in sacks? Can he hit double digits? St Juste with his first pick of his career? TE Reyes or Bates get some snaps? Cosmi comes back and doesnt skip a beat? Dyami Brown catch a bomb? |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
He's the #! because Ron knows the team isn't good enough to win many games so realistically why hurt the draft status? He knows TH has been bad but Kyle Allen isn't much better. Our QB room is god awful
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Let's just be real - if Kyle Allen was tearing it up in practice Heinicke would be benched yesterday. Allen isn't - and so we continue with Heinicke, at least until it gets so unbearable - i.e. Heinicke can't even move the ball anymore - that we will see Allen get some PT.

Watched him in warmups at the GB game, his arm is not much stronger than TH.. They are basically the same player besides the mobility , both mae bonehead decisions and both have bad accuracy |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
So just my two [emoji3577] cents about TH today against Tampa Bay...
TH actually looked fairly good all game, and that final 9 minute drive towards the end of the game, was awesome! Personally I would give TH at least a solid B+ for his performance today against the Tampa Bay Bucs vaunted Defense! Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Aren't we going to hear about the dropped INTs, missed reads, and his other issues. I still saw them all. But he moves this offense better than any qb we have had in forever, and maybe just maybe after 8 games he can still grow.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
@BenStandig
Some final Taylor Heinicke stats vs. the Bucs via @NextGenStats * 8-of-8 for 81 yards and a TD against the blitz. * Season-high 9.6% completed passes over expectation (CPOE) * Though he threw mostly underneath, he went 6 of 8 for 110 yards and a TD on throws of 10+ air yards.
very impressive stuff against the blitz. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I really hate to be overly critical because he did have a great game, but I still do cringe almost every time he throws that ball. It's such a floater. I would just as soon not see him throw another out pattern, because it's only a matter of time before it is a pick-6. Honestly, I feel he is more lucky than good, but I hope the luck continues.

His arm is def an issue, Sometimes I have no idea how he hits on those deep balls. He is very good at the short / mid throws tho.. Like the slant to Gibson and Terry and the fade to DC |

Romo had the better accuracy but Taylor is the better runner. He's at least showing us that we don't have to reach at QB in the draft |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
At this point Heineke had shown he is a better prospect than any QB that will be in the 2022 draft. It's a weak class and none of the 2022 prospects would normally go in the 1st round and now it is apparent the Redskins don't need to reach for one.
