At this moment before the late games the Pats are back ahead of us. They have pick #2 we're at #3. Need the Chiefs and Chargers to win.

Everything I can find still has us at #2.
That makes too much sense and most here will bitch about it. People forget we won with Doug Williams and Mark Rypien, they had their great moments but overall were slightly above average.
Because it is stupid. First of all Doug Williams was a 1st round QB, and this isnt the 1980s NFL, you do not win without top level QB play.

Not to mention we traded down and passed on JJ Watt and then recently traded down and passed up on Kyle Hamilton and Chris Olave

They are gonna sit at pick 2 or 3 and take their QB.

Here's an article from the Patriot's POV. Assuming, we basically want to root for every team they are rooting against:

Note - Patriots play the Jets at home in Week 18. I hope they make all the scoreboard watching moot, and just win that game.
It would be great if Pats and Cards both win next week. That would give us the 2nd pick in all rounds of the draft instead of rotating with the teams that we are tied with.

The Pats can jump ahead of us the Cardinals cant unless we lose

That would absolutely surprise me and be the worst idea when you need a QB and two are potentially starring you right in the face.

Yeah I don't see why anyone would be mad at this either... This franchise will have a new identity next week and a new QB being picked by that new Regime in April. Regardless if you think Caleb Williams is a weirdo or if you think Drake Maye is overrated being from UNC.. One of those 2 QBs will be in Washington

The last time we picked 2nd we fucked it up and passed on Tua and Herbo... You cant do that again

We currently have same SOS. The second tie breaker is division record which they are 2-3 so we still have #2. Don't forget the Steelers we want them to win too.

Let's hope they can be smart and give us more chances. The draft is a crap shoot as it is so the more chances you have at it, the better the outcome will be. Still need good talent evaluators and coaches that get players to fit their system.

If we do some dumbshit like move up in the draft, we'll be fucked for another decade at least.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Personally I think that if they like a Quarterback there they should take him, but if not trade back 3 picks and take a tackle. I wont be mad either way as long as the GM is doing what he thinks is best, it will be difficult to judge for a couple of years whether the GM actually knows what he is doing.... I do hate the idea of trading up, there is such a talent deficit on this roster I think we need all of the picks we can lay our hands on rather than dropping a superstar QB into a shitstorm and ruining him after 2 years and being back where we started

Yep missed them and Chargers/Broncos don't matter as the Pats played both of them. Late games look like they will work out for us.

So now that a qb is all but a lock, any chance someone on here can give us a quick recap on the top 3 for those of us who didn't read the first dozen pages of this thread.

Williams, Maye,Daniels ..
Daniels stock is on the rise ..
Williams was the clear cut top guy but that's not trending ..
Maye is in the Mix ..

My opinion is if we land the Right GM/personnel guy then it's a No brainer .. they should get the pick right ..
But The QB position is the hardest to pick .. I just hope we get it right

Don't think the Cardinals can pass us no matter what. I'm assuming they don't include the team you're comparing against because if you're looking it up, you obviously want that team to lose. Or maybe it just assumes both teams being equal (both win or lose in week 18) all those games would still apply.

Not if we lose but if they win we don't rotate with them in the following rounds same with Pats. If were the only 4-13 team we get the #2 pick in every round. Today we'd have the #4 pick in round 2, #3 in round 3, back to #2 in round 4 and so on.

I can’t get over how bad this season turned out. I’ve seen seasons go south because of injuries but this is the first where a coaching staff just folded.

Excited for the next chapter for this franchise.

4-13 after next week. Ron is by far the worst coach in the league left with a job. He had 4 years and literally made this team worse.

A fresh start is coming and I can’t wait for it.

I hope they change the name and everything again but I doubt that happens

Looking at early bird Free Agency

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2024-free-agent-rankings-free-agency?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=january_1_2024

Not a superstar-laden class, but solid players at some positions of need: Guards, Center, LB and Tight End. Some Experienced Tackle bookends that wouldn’t break the bank at Right Tackle

So far watching Caleb Williams Tape

PROS
1. ARM TALENT IS INSANE
2. CAN MAKE PLAYS OUTSIDE OF THE POCKET THAT MANY CANNOT
3. BETTER PASSER FROM THE POCKET THAN SOME CREDIT HIM FOR

CONS
1. TAKES ALOT OF RISKS... CANT JUST FORCE THE BALL LIKE THAT IN THE NFL
2. NEEDS TO GET DOWN WHEN RUNNING, TOOK SOME BIG HITS
3. JUST NEEDS TO MATURE SOME AS A QB , STOP WITH THE WHINY SHIT

I would love nothing more than to snag Smith away from the Cowboys. Some solid edge in there.

Dude he is slinging it tonight. Dimes, climbs the pocket and just flicks it He’s thrown 4 just big time throws tonight. Crazy the amount of competitions outside the numbers, you gotta have the accuracy and arm to throw it that well

I would trade down and target him, then again if Washington wins tonight they just might beat Michigan and he might go 1st.

I really like Penix .. has a different throwing motion but can drop dimes from any distance.. if we could trade down a few spots and get more picks and land him I would be down with that !

He definitely has an interesting motion, but that damn ball always gets where it needs to be. If we wasn't a lefty and didn't have 2 previous torn ACL's, he might be the No. 1 prospect in the draft.

If we could land Penix and Odunze that would be perfect. Would need a trade down scenario. Both are stars and have played together. Instantly have qb1 and wr1. Odunze is a stud also who makes big plays.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Penix is a leader also. The commentators remarked earlier how Penix called a players ONLY meeting for this game. He has been a leader all year long with his team undefeated and potentially going to the national title game.

Agree but rivers also had a non traditional release and he’s a HOF. I like Penix a lot. The issue is his knee injuries he’s had

That's why it would be the perfect scenario, trade down, get the extra picks, get Penix and you still have Howell and a shit load of draft picks. Maybe Matthew McConaughey can influence Harris to draft him and his WR, TE and DE since he saw his longhorns get beat by them.

I would be surprised if McConaughey have any kind of influence on Harris, or perhaps I should say, I hope he doesn't. The only thing we all should want Harris to do is to hire football people and then sit back and watch them do their jobs.
