Re: The Never Ending Thread
It's very rare that they hire on the spot. And job fairs are usually for pretty entry level jobs/internships.
But it's good to go, dress well, take several copies of your resume, and make contacts. That's the key-make contacts.
Are they all entry level? There will be a couple of banks in attendence, and they need Branch Managers, would they even consider someone like me looking for a management position of some kind? |

In other words, would it be worth my time to travel 8 hours there and 8 hours back for such a thing? (I'd be staying with a friend, so that's not a huge deal) |

Well, you're not likely to find a management job at a job fair. But if you already have a place to stay then I'd make the sacrifice of heading out to the job fair. What else do you have to do with your time? The Never Ending Thread can survive without you for a day :) Seriously though, I'd find out what companies will be there. Research the ones you're most interested in. Go to the job fair and target those companies first. Showing them you're interested face to face can go a long way. |

Should I treat it like an interview, ie: wear my suit?

Cool...I think I will go...It can't hurt right! Are you guys sure Warpath could do without me for 3 days or so? I figure I'll leave on Wednesday, then spend all day on Thursday meeting with people and setting up interviews for Friday, then I'll come back friday night, or maybe even saturday morning. |
Re: The Never Ending Thread
Have you tried headhunters? Man, there's nothing sweeter/easier than having someone look for the perfect job for you. Also, some companies like local candidates only so if you can I'd suggest using your friends address on your resume.

Yes, I have tried, but just like what you said, they only look for local candidates. Maybe if I am actually there, they might see me face to face and give me a shot. |

LOL...WHAT? And how is that? What sucks is that I was hoping to take in a Rockies game when I was there, but they are away for those days. That sucks. |
Re: The Never Ending Thread
I hate job fairs, they are a necessary evil though. I was hired through a job fair once. I was supposed to attend one last month too, but I decided not to.

I think you know my situation better than anyone Angry...do you think it would be worth my time? |
Re: The Never Ending Thread
I noticed a couple airlines will be at the fair, has anyone ever worked for the airlines? Do they offer decent jobs?

Definately, when people look at a resume all they see is a piece of paper. When they see you they can put a face with that piece of paper. They will take you more seriously once you have shown them that you traveled all of that way to give them the old grip and grin. Like SS said, "Contacts are important" (I refer to it as Networking). |

The more I keep looking at the employers going, the more I think I can really make some good contacts. |

Just make sure the airline isn't recently out of bankruptcy. If they are they're looking to hire cheap. |

Re: The Never Ending Thread
I'm not sure if this has been asked but how's your interviewing skills? I found his book to be a real asset. It'll definitely teach you how to make yourself look good and not f'up an interview.

Thanks for the link. I am usually very good at interviews. I know you can't tell, but I have a very happy demeanor, and excellent BS skills. Considering I have hired over 500 people in my careers, I know what to ask, and I know what they want to hear. |

What's up with you tonight dall-assblows?
That reminds me of when we had to search vehicles in Germany. We would stop the good looking women on purpose. I love European women, especially when they wore skirts with no underwear. You could catch a snapshot with your inspection mirror just as they were exiting the vehicle. AAAHHHH..... Good times. |

Southwest is a fantastic company. When I use to work for Boeing Southwest was one of only few companies we had to make sure was happy at all times. Southwest is efficient, knows it shit, and buys a lot of airplanes (the sign of a healthy airline). As for US Airways it came out of chapter 11 bankruptcy on 9/2005. I would suggest that you do your research and ask a lot of questions of their rep at the fair. |

Hell no then! I'll work in the office on the financials! For some odd reason, I have always thought it would be fun to work for an airline...and they offer free flights as benefits!!!! |

That is an outdated stereotype. No need to revist the fact that I rank them 3rd in the world behind Brazillian and Israeli. |

Nice. What do you do now? I thought Boeing was a great employer up there in Seattle? My sister in law (used to live in Sammamish, WA) tried to get me on with Boeing a while back, and she talked them up. |
What about Americans?
By the way, you were vaugue by saying European...there are a lot of contries in Europe...which ones were the best?
American women are tied at 5 with the Russians behind the Philipinos. I group all European women together because of their proximity, but if you want me to get speciffic it is a toss up between the French and German with Italy and Sweeden right behind. British women are by far at the bottom. Many of them are butter faces, gorgeous body's with butter faces. |

Pretty much everyone directly or indirectly work for Boeing or Microsoft. |
