The only plan I can see that would make sense in letting go the two best (in their prime at least) safeties on the roster is trying to get the youngest and healthiest players available.
It makes sense in the long term, but could send us backtracking this season.

Reed Doughty should never be playing FS.

Hell he shouldn't be doing anything but special teams.

And the results are more along the lines of trying to hold the status quo in the front seven while letting the secondary get obliterated.

Yeah, I'm with you, but looking to the future was the only thing I could draw from their current moves in the backfield.
I still think if this was their approach keeping either atogwe or preferably LaRon would have been a good idea.
Oh well, let's hope by draft time it's more clear.

I hear Merriweather is a liability in coverage

The same can be said for all of our safeties, so he'll fit right in.

C. griffin at FS? Though they've not used a high pick on Safety since LL, they at least have drafted late round safeties that made the roster goin back to Vinny days w/Doughty to Gomes last year.

I think the plan was, anyone but Laron at safety in 2012.

good Luck LL .. you were great until you refused to get the damn surgery .. wtf dude .. instead of a 1 yr $4million dollar deal he likely would have had a long term deal with the Skins' if he would simply fixed his injury.

I think in fairness too, they might've been counting on more of a FA market & more $ in FA before the NFL hit em w/penalty of $36 mil over 2 years.

plain truth is he was being an idiot because of 1 of 2 possible reasons.

One - He is scared of going under the knife. Understandable for a regular human being, not a professional athlete whose livelihood is dependant upon recovering from injuries in an expedient manner.

Two - Since he is a "lifter", and probably is a very nutrition/healthy lifestyle conscious person, he figures that his body will do better undertaking a "holistic" approach. Might be good for a common cold or even the flu, but not really the preferred method for a ripped achillies tendon.

Bottom line is that either his fear, stubbornness or his delusions of knowing more than the teams surgeons has cost him a very pretty penny.

If he's WISE & I'm NOT trying to judge a book by its cover, LL's already made enough money to retire.

Perhaps, but they still had time to change their minds and offer him a deal. I think they made up their mind to move on from him a while ago.
