Re: Redskins Off Season things.
Anytime lil Danny loses money, I'm happy. I couldn't care less about the trademark. Just put a quality product on the field.

I tend to agree, I am ready to give up the name. It has stood for shit for the past 20 years or so. I am actually at a all time low of Redskins merchandise; so i could stock up with the new name. Call them the Washington Warriors and be done with it. |

I believe if he loses the trademark, this is what will ultimately force him to change the team name. It would chap lil Danny's ass if he knew people could make money off his team and he not get his slice of pie. It will be greed that motivates him to change it, nothing else. |
Yes the trademark remains in place until the appeals process is brought to bear.
Are you sure? Generally speaking, unless you specifically request an order to be stayed, it is in effect even if an appeal is pending. Also, read bits and parts of the decision, and assuming arguendo that the Skins lose the appeal, the Skins still can assert the trademark even if it is not registered and seek damages from those who inappropriately use it. However, because it is can't be the PTO won't register it, the Skins are not entitled to triple damages and do not receive the benefit of submitting the registered mark as presumptive proof of an existing trademark. So, it appears, they can still sue folks for using Redskins symbols, they just have to jump through a few extra legal hoops and don't get as much in damages. For an aggressive litigant like DS, I doubt that either of these limitations is likely to pose a problem for DS in the long run. |
Re: Redskins Off Season things.
Its all retarded IMO ... Some bunch of clowns looking for 15 minutes of fame, and staying power in their name through history that they were the ones who decided the trademark or did this or that to make the redskins change their name... Fucking stupid and it pisses me off.

Re: Redskins Off Season things.
I don't see Danny winning this, because at some point I think a lot of Redskins fans may start thinking like I am right now. I've been a Redskins fan since 1979. I have purchased clothing items, home decor and other "Redskins" logoed items for many years, NOW I hesitant to purchase any new stuff becuase they may change the name/logo and make my stuff obsolete.
Are any of the rest of you thinking like that? Or is it just me? |
Re: Redskins Off Season things.
What are some of the name alternatives that have been thought of anyway? I know some media types have done some polls. I think they should just name the team the Washington Warriors and basically keep the same logo and maybe even the same fonts and colors. No more scripted "R", but keep the Indian head logo on the helment and you are done.

But i also still wear a lavar arrington jersey. I do buy a new hat every season ... but then just wear my old stained worn out one. I think i would be interested in getting my hands on some old school skins stuff to hang onto if they change the name. |

Re: Redskins Off Season things.
I've come to realize it's only a matter of time before the name is changed. It would be better if the team did it on its own vs being forced to.
As for the merch, I'll rock my Skins wear until the name changes and beyond. |

I hear what all of you are saying, but I feel like if I went out and spent $200 on a Redskins jersey and they changed the name say a month later, I would probably be pissed. But that maybe just me. |
Re: Redskins Off Season things.
What gets me is: The name wasn't a slur when it was coined, and for a long time after that. We football fans don't use it as a slur now. Yet because it was used as a slur back on old western movies and novels before that, some people (not NA's, other people wanting to make a "cause") want to change the team name.
No, don't go after the people who use it as slur, like the people who own the rights to said movies and novels. Go after the people who sing "Hail to the Redskins" most Sundays in the fall and winter. People who want to change the name are stupid. |

(there were a lot of places in the US called N-this and N-that at one point too, and now there aren't very many left). I personally wish everyone had thicker skin and were less trigger happy with lawsuits. I don't think dan caves until/unless they get to his money/revenue. It seems like money is the only thing that really talks in this country. |

So true. That's why I prefer to go with the "Oh Yeah? Well, you're a poopie-head!" argument whenever I'm losing a debate. |
