He was put in the game 4th quarter while we were losing to a divisional team. (One that beat us 59-28 last season) If I was the coach I would have either put Beck in at the half or make Rex take the full effect of the loss. Rex still maintains that he can get it done. Personally I think he is borderline delusional. Beck had a tremendous amount of mental pressure put on him going in as well as the Eagle D. I think under the circumstances he did incredible! Good concern. The thing that worries me is that in the last preseason game Beck made some Grossman-esque poor decisions, too. I hope I am proven wrong but I remain uncertain that Beck will spare us boner plays, even if we leave aside fumbling when he's not even hit. |

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
The discussion has been had, but when did Beck have his regular season chance? On a 1-15 team with a HC headed out the door? He stepped in, played poised, and ought to get the next start. Hopefully film study tells the Shanahan's the same thing everyone else saw, that 3 out of 4 of RG's int's were bad decisions. Had he just tucked it, and not forced, the outcome might have been different.
If he would have tucked it we would have just ended up with a fumble instead of an interception. I dont dislike him, but he just turns the ball over too much. Ask any player or coach whats the best indicator of who won/lost a game and its always the same thin - TURNOVERS!!! I have no grand illusions that Beck is going to come in and dominate but its a virtual guarantee that he will turn the ball over a whole lot less. And thats waht our team needs. |

Santana needs to shut up on this one, sorry I love that guy but he's a clown if he wants to start a war between teammates. Grossman sux its that simple
I hate to say nerves, but believe it was. Lets see a full game with starter reps and proper preperation. Rex has gotten worse as the season has gone on. Beck, not completely sold either, but lets at least give him a proper shot.
Honestly, I think Beck is extremely accurate on the short to medium throws. When he is on, he is on. But more importantly, he doesn't force balls into double, and tripple coverage. EVERYTIME Rex threw a pick yesterday, I found myself asking, "WTF did he see there?". The antithesis of Grossman is Brady. He just calmy takes what the D gives him, and marches down the for the GAS!! NEW ACRONYM: GAS - Go-Ahead Score |

I hope I am proven wrong but I remain uncertain that Beck will spare us boner plays, even if we leave aside fumbling when he's not even hit.
You have to also realize that Beck was not playing with ANY of the starting skill positions. It was almost as if he was set up to fail. When he played with the Starting receivers, he looked 10 times better than Grossman. Let's also not forget, that Shanny was all about Beck in the preseason as well. QUESTION: If you wanted the two QB's to have an even competition, why would you give one of them a Whole game, most of which was with the starters, and then give the other one, a whole game with none of the starters? |

Whether he plays with the first or third team, the QB is paid to make good decisions. My argument was not about yardage production or anything like that which is dependent on other personnel. My argument was solely about decision making. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Its probably been said somewhere in this thread already.Teams from here on out{till we prove otherwise}are going to stack the box to force us to throw{especially with rex as the starter}as philly did.At least with Beck back there he has the mobility to move around and make some plays with his feet, and right now we need that, especially with our off line situation.I think whats going to happen is Beck will get the nod but at some point he will get hurt and sexy rexy will be back in

And things got screwed up for Beck when he got hurt before the first preseason game. Sucks for him, but that's not Shanahan's fault. He was set up to fail is bogus. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
If Beck doesn't start after the past 3 games Rex has played then Shanny is playing for a high draft pick next April, its that simple. Rex is a good backup who can win you a game or two in an injury pinch. Rex helped us win 1 out of our 5 games, the other 4 he was just on the field playing QB and did nothing else to help us win. You need your QB to take care of the ball first and make a couple of great plays in games for you to win. Rex does not take care of the ball so he should not get the chance to continue to be your starting QB.

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Beck moves the offense Beck is mobile Beck makes the offense look that much better and gives this team hope...
Memorize that word hope I vote for John Beck its that simple forget that crap in 07 He wasn't doing squat under that coach anyway. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Somebody on NFL, think it was Brian Billick, said Shanny might give the reins back to Grossman, under the conditions that he has one more chance, and then tell all his teammates that are fighting for him to stay qb that he has one more chance, so it's up to the entire offense to play hard to keep Grossman in there or not.
Personally if that did happen I don't think it would last too long, mainly because for all the ints that have been receivers fault, Grossman's personal ints have been just as bad if not worse. I'm fine with going with Beck from this point on, but you never know what our coach is thinking. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
We should have grabbed Vince Young when we had the chance.

Beck, naturally. Better the devil you don't know than the one you do? Sounds good to me.

I don't think any coach would ever openly tell a QB and all his teammates that this is the QB's last chance. What the hell would that do to a locker room? Sheesh. |

Maybe Brian Billick would? I don't think I would do it, because as a coach you're opening up yourself to all kinds of hypothetical scenarios which might possibly not be beneficial, but you never know. But then again, I don't have eyes and ears inside the locker room, so I wouldn't have an idea of how this will proceed. My gut instinct is that they'll go with Beck, because Grossman has been on a steady decline since his game against the Giants, and it's clear he's still the same quarterback he's always been, whereas Beck has apparently played better in practice (according to Mike Shanahan) and didn't look as bad as Grossman in the game. |

Yeah I agree here. Not only that, but Shanny would not undermine his own ability to make a decision by influence of the mere preference of "teammates fighting for Rex to stay" Not only would he disrupt the locker room but also loses the respect of every player on the team and his credibility as a HC. Shanny would never do such a foolish thing. He will make the call but it will be by his own discretion. |

No, not at all. If we truly want to win this season get Carson Palmer. The Bengals are ready to deal. VY is a headcase. He can't make the adjustment from God at Texas to just a NFL starting QB. In saying this, I am not saying I want Palmer, just saying if you want a real franchise type QB NOW get Palmer. Young is a wash in my book. Yeah, you can get him cheap, but he would be another McNabb at best. |

Carson Palmer is not going to be an upgrade IMO.He wasnt that good last yr and to bring him off the street with no training camp and think he's going to be better than what weve got doesnt make sense to me,but i dont want to argue about it,just my opinion |

http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/43892-rex-grossman-named-starting-qb.html
Why did you think that would be interesting? Honest question, after all there was a poll where I believe a large majority wanted Beck but a substantial minority wanted Grossman. Also, not many of us(if any) are sold on Beck or Grossman leading this team after this year, and so why would a thread where a fan base comes to accept the decision made by their team be of any exciting interest? Again, seriously wondering what made you think it. |

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
At this point I don't care. Personally if Beck was any better he'd have been starting already, but he was not .... most likely for a reason. I think the situation was this;
Grossman- Knows the playbook inside and out and is able to switch the play at the LOS to a more favorable play the defense is giving him. I think he's more accurate on the deep passes. Definitly a pocket passer and poised. Beck- Has better legs for roll outs and for running if need be. Has a stronger arm and can throw the ball farther, but is not as accurate on the deep ball. I think due to both not being a complete package the coaching staff had to decide what they wanted from a QB and had to decide which QB was better suited. I think in the end Grossman won the job because of his ability to switch the play. I don't hate Beck, but if he was better he already would have been starting. At this point I hope they do start Beck. Like the rest of you lets see what he "can" and or "can't" do. Trust me I was just as excited prior to the season starting with the assumption that Beck was starting simply because Grossman can not scramble for a 1st down to save his life, but I accepted that there was a reason Beck was not starting. The problems I think we will see is more sacks because Beck will probably not change the play at the LOS and will run the play sent in which will result in a sack. He'll make some good plays just like Grossman did but I honestly don't think either QB will out play the other and the fans who have been clamering for the change will be slightly dissapointed. All in all ...... this team needs more OL depth next year and a QB out of the draft. |

LOL, please don't tell me people are still chanting the Young name? I was suprised at all the Young fans here who wanted the team to pick him up and thank god we didn't because just look how bad he is. Two times he was put in the game and he sucked. I have an Eagle fan I work with who is bad mouthing Young because he sucks. I'm not a Palmer fan and really don't think he's much better then Grossman or Beck but trading this late in the season? he wouldn't be worth a start until next year after he's had time to digest the scheme and play calls. |

Well the good news for you is we should find out by Wed. I'm just seriously hoping Beck doesn't let you down on Sun. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
This past year our draft strategy was to move down and infuse youth at many different positions. We did a good job of this. We have a good surrounding cast for a franchise QB.
But now it is time to get that QB. I will be happy if we take the opposite approach in the offseason by going all-in to draft a talented rookie QB. If it takes trading several picks to get one studly QB, so be it. |
