Put it this way. What's worse being a Redskins fan or an Eagles fan? Thought so.
Being a Colts fan? But maybe they're happy, they're in the lead to draft Luck. |
Re: Redskins v. Dolphins Gameday Thread
Last year people thought the 49ers were one of the worst teams in the NFL, I didn't cause I knew they had a lot of talent like it's showing this year. The same goes for the Redskins, the Redskins have a lot of talent and the young guys are starting to flourish, a good draft starting with a QB and we could be like them.
I would concur with that, every season was exciting, I am ready for the draft already, how bad is that.
Not bad at all. Maybe they will draft some OL somewhere in the first 3 rounds officially this century. Dumb bastages. |

I guess the difference between these two teams is maybe the 49ers coaching staff's ability to bring the best out of that roster. |

Yes and no. You know I was big proponent of hiring Harbaugh over Shanahan 2 years ago. I feel like the current staff can do it, we need a QB badly!! As you can see we've lost our last 5 games because of shitty QB play and don't tell that isn't it. Yes, Shanahan decided to go with these 2 amateurs but I'm sure he has learned his lesson the hard way. |
Re: Redskins v. Dolphins Gameday Thread
As much as I would like to hope that next year's Skins will be this year's 49ers, there are two reasons why I suspect that this will not be the case. First, the 49ers showed some signs of life at the end of last year with their team playing better as the season wore on. It is the mark of a team headed in the right direction. This year (and I realize that we have a bunch of games left), it is hard to imagine this group being competitive here on our, much less win a game or two. 9 points against the Dolphins? 1 TD in 3 weeks? Pathetic by any measure. Second, while I might agree that we have a nucleus of talent, we do not appear to have any leadership on this team, save for London Fletcher on D. The 49ers have a pretty firey coach -- like him or not, he has his team believing that they can win every week. I don't think Shanahan is a bad coach, but in a league of "what have you done for me lately," one has to think back a long way before you can point to a real accomplishment.
Last year, we struggled to 6-10. This year, it seems like there's a likelihood that we will actually do worse than that (it seems very unlikely that we can tie last season's record). It isn't as though we can look to real stud players that we've lost since Shanahan took over; if anything, folks would likely agree that the roster has made modest improvements (it's at least younger). But there's precious little to show for it. And that does not suggest that we're on the right track here. Sorry to be doom and gloom. I have been a fan since about 1973 or so. But this franchise is starting to feel cursed. It's been 20 years since the Redskins were relevant on a regular basis. That is a long, long time. What's crazy is that teams that have been bottom dwellers for years -- the Lions, Bengals, 49ers, Bills -- are stepping up and playing well this season (for the most part). Of those teams, I suspect that the Lions and 49ers will actually be able to sustain it, and perhaps the Bengals as well (unsure about the Bills). It seems like for the Redskins, being good is always just out of reach. It's like Alice in Wonderland: jam yesterday and jam tomorrow, but never jam today. Just once -- once -- I would like to see this team go out and just want to kick the crap out of another team. The O-line to play mean and to beg to smash the ball down the throats of an opponent, and for the D to hope that the offense scores quickly so they can go out on the field and pummel someone. I just don't see our guys with that attitude. It has been about 2 decades since we've seen that. Sad that we're all focused on next year and it is before Thanksgiving. |
Re: Redskins v. Dolphins Gameday Thread
Ok. When Moss, Paul and Brown come back, you see a more competitive team. The skins have talent and new faces are starting to appear, Helu, Hankerson, Riley, Kerrigan and I predict Paul is next. The lack of depth in the OL, no QB, S position (has been a mess all year, I would activate Moore) CB's have been a liability. A draft involving a QB, OL and CB will do wonders for this team.

Re: Redskins v. Dolphins Gameday Thread
Remember when everyone thought that the media (particularly Cowherd) was all "hatting" on the Redskins for 3-13...
Anyhow, I think we have many of the right pieces in place. Just not the most important one Interesting how Balmer and Anderson were active and saw playing time so quickly after being signed. |

Most fans of the Skins in DC land are in fact Feds or Fed contractees with loads of cash to spend still. Look at the Forbes ranking of the best and worst owners. William Clay Ford was the worst because the Lions lost $$$$$$$$ in 2010. Folks in Detroit are hurting, and will not part with $75 a pop for crappy football, but obviously Feds in Dc don't give a shit about money. All Snyder has to do is move the musical chairs around to keeps thing interesting like a Reality TV show. IN short, I don't think there is a concrete plan to rebuild this team, just to keep things constantly changing enough to keep interest in it. In short, I think we do indeed need a new owner that truly is a football fan in here to turn it around. |
Re: Redskins v. Dolphins Gameday Thread
Start the chant ...
TRADE DOWN! TRADE DOWN! There are 4 1st round grade QBs available possibly... (Luck, Barkley, Jones, RGIII)... trade down, grab one, get more picks sp we can grab 3 O-Linemen, some CBs and Safeties while we are at it! We need more than Luck people! Literally AND figuratively! He's no "absolute lock." You can't guarantee he's going to be THAT much better than those other 3... (see Andy Dalton, 5th QB picked this year). |

Trust me, he is as good as advertised. You would a need a hole in your head if you don't draft him with the 1st pick. |

Not my point... We aren't going to have the 1st pick, so your point is moot. I am saying that there is no need to trade UP for him... I don't think we should. We would be smarter trading down and gathering 5-6 usable parts (like this year) with one or two being QBs and others being O-Linemen, CBs, etc You are guaranteeing that he's going to be P. Manning and the other 3 guys are all Ryan Leafs?? Can you guarantee that? If you think you can, you have no business trying to take shots at other people on here. |

no doubt that if we had the #1 pick you have to take Luck, but we wont have that pick. So it comes down to which of the Qb's left fit father and sons offense. |

You still move up and draft Barkley who I think is a notch below Luck and the next best QB in the draft (he will come out). Yeah, Griffin is a good QB but in the end Barkley will be the better QB. |

Yes I'm guaranteeing he will be next Tom Brady, just like I did with Harbaugh and now also Barkley. I'm not taking shots at you. |
Re: Redskins v. Dolphins Gameday Thread
I've said it before and I'll say it again. We have a very good chance at getting Andrew Luck, without having the first overall pick
I can easily see the 2004 draft all over again. |

It doesn't matter if the Colts do get it, they are going to select Luck and prepare him for the future. I would and they'd be stupid not to. You don't know how Manning's health is going to pan out, and you've seen how important the QB spot is now. Nobody has a shot in hell at trading for Luck. I think there is a better chance in Israel and Iran becoming allies than anybody getting a trade for Luck. |

With the rookie wage scale, it is easier now for teams to keep the #1 overall. Although the Colts FO already made a huge gaffe by giving Manning a ton of money with a questionable neck, so you never know if they'll make another mistake. |

I think that contract was more of a past performance pay as well. Also, Manning had the team put in a opt out clause in case his health was a issue and it would save the team money. Polian is one of the best in the business, and I expect him to continue being so. I will say this. I think there will be several good QBs we can make our franchise QB in the upcoming draft so I don't believe it's a "Luck or nothing" type of deal. |

I'm saying if we have the #4 overall pick, we trade for the #1. I'm pretty sure the colts would take it and be satisfied with a Barkley or Landry Jones. (I don't care for either though.) |

Considering they had that very same option back when they drafted Manning (Leaf), I doubt they do anything different this time either. |

Why is it that the Colts would be satisfied with Barkley or Jones but we would be so dissatisfied with them that we would want to trade up? Do we have much more discerning taste than the Colts? I think it is reasonable instead to believe that the Colts would want Luck as badly as we do. Both teams need their QB of the future. |

Vinny has put us in a situation we can't afford to get Luck but need to trade down for above average talent on the OL and defensive backfield and another LB. A solid QB in the later part of the 1st round or 2nd after trading down several times can work and we can get OL and a QB. I would even take the QB from TCU. And then the others. |

He probably wants to be the GM who is a "genius" who made the Colts a champion for a quarter century. He probably wants a few more Super Bowl rings as well. I'm sure he realizes that his empire is treacherously near destruction with Manning's career in jeopardy. He knows he needs another QB, and Luck is that man. Good luck trying to get the #1 pick if the Colts have it. Unless Luck has a huge bitchfest similar to Eli's and screams "I wanna play for Washington", there is no way he comes here. That Colts are so bad, I don't see them winning another game, so we can't draft Luck for ourselves. |

If you "know" QBs sooo well like the Shanahans... you pick a guy who by the way had 2 TDs in the first half just today vs the Steelers D with one good WR ... who is a rookie! and playing for a Coordinator in his first year as well!! You had Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder, Dalton to choose from and you get NOTHING... 2011 could be the best QB draft since '83 and we got none of them. Hell... Matt Moore is better than what we have.
We didn't have the #1 or the #8 pick, so how do you figure we had a chance at Newton or Locker? Gabbert's looking less than ordinary right now, and Ponder only a bit better. And Dalton was taken before our pick in the second round. Are you suggesting we should have rolled the dice, and put all of our chips in a massive trade to grab one of those guys? |
