Yeah it sucks cause he's my favorite redskin and defensive redskin of all time, but it's got to end sometime.

I think the Redskins will be fine without Fletcher. We might as well start imaging what the defense will appear like without #59. That said, I would still love to have him....but we have to start thinking of Perry Riley and Keenan Robinson as the future inside backers for the Redskins defense.
BS,why pay him more than Brady,Eli or Peyton or even Drew Brees or Arron Rogers?
Aaron Rodgers signed a deal several years ago, and hadn't done much yet, so his contract isn't a good comparison. Brady and Peyton are both on their last deals. Flacco has 1 SB win, been to the playoffs every year (should have been to the SB last year, but for two fluke plays not on him). He is 28, and entering the prime of his career. And finally, all those contracts are at least 1 year old (not counting Brady's cap extension), he certainly should expect that he will be in the same ballpark, and had he had a bust of a season, the team would certainly have expected him to take the lower end of franchise qb money. He didn't, and he has the confidence knowing that he will get at least franchise tag money, and he should be pushing for every penny he can get.

Strike while the iron is hot, and it doesn't get much hotter than a AFC championship playoff game 2 years ago, followed up with a SB winning performance this year.

Should we franchise freezer dolls or give them large multi-year deals?

According to this article, the passer rating when throwing at Dunta Robinson in 2011 was 91 and in 2012 was 102. Not good, Dunta.

Not even remotely close. He's being cut because he was exposed in their secondary. There was talk of him being released last off-season. He was over hyped when he was a FA from Houston. (much like D Hall)

Good news is, people aren't going to have to worry about the Ravens for a while after signing this foolish contract. That team will be on the decline.

Dunta R is essentially DHall without the tackling prowess.

I'd keep hall before I signed that guy.

It is crazy to think but in three years he will be making 22+ mil a year. As long as he continues to play at a high level that is, and if he does he will be worth every penny.

Not like MLB or NHL. CBA will allow contracts no longer than 6 years.

Wouldn't mind signing him to a 10 year, 40 million dollar deal like this guy though.

Never thought I'd say it, mistake by Ozzie Newsome. Highest paid player in NFL history? not close

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

If I understand correcrtly, Flacco's contract is only guaranteed for 3 years, and has roughly the same amount of guaranteed money as Tom's.

I'd expect that he'll have to restructure in two to three years, and bring down his number drastically.

Either way, he was over paid in this armchair GMs opinion.
Never thought I'd say it, mistake by Ozzie Newsome. Highest paid player in NFL history? not close
Its not a mistake. Ozzie is a smart GM, possibly the best one out there. Flacco, like him or love him, just won a super bowl and was MVP for good reason. He looked like one of the best QBs ever in a super bowl performance wise, and he threw 0 Ints in the playoffs. Flacco is a top 10 QB. His money is number 1 worthy, but we know that Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, RG3, Kaepernick, who in a year to a couple of years will more than likely be signing contracts that exceeds his. This is the largest deal Flacco will ever sign. That I can guarantee. And in a year or two Flacco will be re-doing that deal for guys like Torrey Smith and Arthur Jones for example so yeah now its a big contract but in a year or two it will be what it deserves to be. Keep in mind also that a few years ago Brees was paid more than Brady and Manning and people were like "He's not better than those two" then Brady and Manning got new deals and Brees was paid "where he should have been (#3)"

Ruhskins 03-02-2013 04:12 PM

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

Good for Joe, he won a SB for his team and deserves a contract. I guess people around here feel that a player has to win multiple SBs before they get paid? Given how quickly things can change in football (i.e. injury), I think it is smart for players to get the best deal out of an opportunity like this.

So you would risk losing a QB that has led the team to multiple playoff appearances and just won a Super Bowl, just to say that you didn't overpay him? I'm sorry but I think Flacco had all the bargaining chips on this contract discussion.

Agreed.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

I can totally see Joe Flacco moving on to an Eli Manning/Tom Brady second phase of his career. Where up to this point he put up slightly above average numbers but after the Super Bowl win people almost want to say the team won it in spite of the QB. Then after they start putting up huge numbers the team has trouble winning a Super Bowl afterwards. Of course thats more Tom Brady then Eli Manning but the point remains the same.

Flacco will probably have a couple of huge years from this point on that justifies the contract but doesn't win the Super Bowl which is just as well. Only one team can win it every year and it's not always the team with the very best QB.

Just to further illustrate here's Brady's and Eli's numbers during years they won the Super Bowl.

Brady
2001 - 86.5 Rating 18 TD - 12 Int's 2,843 Yards - 15 GP
2003 - 85.0 Rating 23 TD - 12 Int's 3,620 Yards - 16 GP
2004 - 92.6 Rating 28 TD - 14 Int's 3,692 Yards - 16 GP

Eli
2008 - 73.9 Rating 23 TD - 20 Int's 3,336 Yards - 16 GP
2011 - 92.9 Rating 29 TD - 16 Int's 4,933 Yards - 16 GP

Compare that to Flacco this past year
2012 - 87.9 Rating 22 TD - 10 Ints 3,817 Yards - 16 GP

Nothing special but when they first won but after they seemed to reach another level.
