O-Line---Michael Oher/Alex Mack/Wade Smith ?
Alex Mack is a great player but if he were to become a UFA he would cost about eleventy bazillion dollars to sign. Highly unlikely for us, I would think.

giving Riley $5-$7 million per year is crazy, you might get the same production from Kenan Robinson, or a rookie....and it would cost 10% as much as Riley would make

Save the money for O-lineman.... Mack, Collins, Asmoah, Colon, etc.
Don't get it either.

People preach about developing our own talent, but then always have their eyes on everyone else's talent.

Doesn't make much sense to me to let a 25 year old LB who has played well in our system walk.
Particularly when the other ILB spot ALREADY needs to be filled. So let's pay for guys who are either going to be (1) overpriced by market demand; (2) short term cheaper older guys on the downside of their career and who are unfamiliar with our system; or (3) unwanted younger guys of questionable talent who are also unfamiliar with our system - IN BOTH ILB SPOTS.

That's sounds like an excellent plan.

Who says that Riley is FOR SURE getting $7 mil.?

And you can't get the same production from Robinson that you get from Riley until Robinson actually sees the field. At this point there is no reason to believe that Robinson is not made of glass.

If we got Riley and Jackson at ilb that would be outstanding. Jackson would be a really good signing. Cleveland is just really baffling this offseason.

I'd scoop up Jackson in a second. It's one of those moves that would work out GREAT for another NFCE team. WE need that.

They say that Jackson and the Browns broke up amicably after a salary reduction effort was rejected. Therefore perhaps Jackson will want $$. But he would look good in the b&g.

Frickin' LOL.

CRedskinsRule 02-26-2014 10:23 PM

Well, JG certainly knows Jackson's strengths and weaknesses having gameplanned for him twice a season. It would be interesting to hear the conversations between Haslett, JG and BA about how hard they should pursue him. Riley, Jackson Barnett(is he still on our roster) and a rookie might be a nice ilb group.

Do we resign Rob Jackson now that Orakpo seems hopeless? Looks we are not going to tag him and talks seem to be not in the same ball park.

I hope he goes to Dallas. Lol

Free agency hasn't even started and all is lost with Rak?

Can't blame him for wanting to test the market and see what's out there.

That type of contract will never happen because those numbers don't begin to approach his market value. You should just simply say that you would let him walk.

We'll see what happens. If the Skins let Orakpo walk, I think they should keep an eye on DeMarcus Ware's situation. If he's healthy enough, he might still have some gas in the tank.

That said, I just don't know what the Skins braintrust is thinking about the upcoming season. Are they going to try to win or are they rebuilding? Are they only going after younger players? DeMarcus Ware might not be a consideration for the Skins depending on their strategy.

Rumor is that we're going to go after Mike Mitchell to play FS.

Riley Cooper is expected to sign a 3/4 year deal to stay in Philly and they want to offer Maclin a 1-year deal to keep him too.

I bet Maclin could get a longer deal elsewhere, will be interesting to see if he accepts.

Yes and anyone that wants to give him 10 million per year can have him.

JoeRedskin 02-27-2014 09:31 AM

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

... and who are you replacing him with? Rob Jackson? I like the guy, but he also wants starter money and if you think he approaches skillset or brings to the team what Rak does ... well someone cue the Tinkerbell meme. He may come cheaper, but not dirt cheap AND there is the old adage "you get what you pay for." You want a cheap fix for a top 10 OLB - that's what you get.

But hey, let's let Riley go 'cause (maybe) he wants a little more than market. Let's let Rak go b/c he wants market price.

Replacing 3/4's of our LB'ers? Priceless.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

This is a 25-30 rank defense, we need alot of players. There are alot of upgrades in free agency that aren't big names. Spend alot of cap money to resign our own, and where does that get us? Need to bring in guys to compete, and not overpay guys that aren't making an impact.

As Keim says I’d be surprised if the Redskins aren’t interested. Just makes sense given the connection with our new LB coach and our need at ILB.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

i think i agree, if rak wants 10+mill per, maybe letting him walk would be a better move... or franchise him and see what he can do this season. part of the issue is he's a top dog in this year's pass rush market, and the perception of how good he is nationally is probably higher than what we've seen locally. if next year is a softer market, we can get a cheaper deal, and we also buy a year to try and talk him into something reasonable.

apparently he wants 12-13mill/per, which is... no thanks.

With the cap going up to 130-132 million, I have no problem paying a top OLB his money. Plus we need the dude.

Let's get our eat defensive player locked up long term and worry about the rest later.

Think about it like this: if in three years out top paid players are III, Trent Williams, and Rak then we are doing things right.
