If DJ was really just interested in getting paid he would have visited other teams, no?
I think w/ Jackson, it's really no big deal. Personally, if I were starting with a new company and wanted to get off on the right foot, I would cancel the vacation and come in, but that's me. Now if he misses a OTA or mini camp then that's when it should be a story. Missing a week of workouts is non issue.
Yeah agreed. I don't think we can equate Jackson missing this week of workouts to us missing our first week at a new job. This is more like Jackson missing the first 45 minutes of orientation meetings on day 1. |

Or like missing the first class of the semester where the prof hands you the syllabus and basically says see you next time. Although one year I skipped the first day of chemistry class and because the waiting list was so big for the class I lost my spot, lol. |

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
I think about your question from a different angle: my understanding is that we have had a rep of, "If you wanna get paid, go to Washington." Maybe that rep has changed. But if we do have that rep, I would expect DJax to put that rep to the test to the maximum of his ability. But who knows what he will do.
Well, I am pretty sure the rep changed once Allen came in. If you go to that angle though, the thought generally followed that the players stopped working once they got here or once they got their money. I haven't seen anything to imply Jackson wasn't going to work hard once he did get paid, just that he might slack off if he felt slighted or felt that he was worth more. |

See, I have the opposite view. If I'm starting a new job, I would inform them ahead of time (prior to me getting hired) that I had plans in place. If they are cool with it, I'm enjoying the hell out of my vacation BECAUSE when I show up at that new job, I'm gonna try to blow them away. I hear what you're saying though.. The timing was unfortunate, but I really have a hard time criticizing the decision. |

DJax did NOT get a huge contract, it's actually LESS than what he was making before, and he has something to prove given his injured reputation. It's a three year contract but I think we could dump him after year 2 and have minimal salary cap charges. Point is, it's dramatically different than the $100 million dollar / $40 million guaranteed Haynesworth deals. That was a big payday for Haynesworth - but DJax's deal is less than he was making. I have no probs w him taking preplanned vacation. He'll be here soon enough. |

A millionaire sportsman having a vacation in the offseason the guy signed on for less money than any of us could have hoped for and now will have a major hard on to prove our division not just the Eagles were majorly wrong. *wise up* |

You are correct and I did not mean to imply that he *only* wants to get paid. He deserves credit for the fact that he got paid in Philly and still produced. |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Come on, the guy is Human. He just took a huge blow to his ego and overall state of mind by being rejected and dismissed from the team he played extremely hard for. The guy needs some time to get away and decompress. It's April, who cares.

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Most of us wouldn't even get paid time off if we took vacation in our first week of employment. Besides the $, we wouldn't do it b/c of the precedent it sets with a new employer. But the NFL is not the real world. Players in the NFL need to produce 60 minutes for 16 (min) Sundays. Obviously that's an oversimplification but if DJax helps win games, I don't care what he does outside of Sunday.

I honestly didn't want DeSean Jackson...,but now that we have hin I can't wait to see him play opposite Pierre Garcon......it should be fun to watch.....

Nice article about the signing |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Ok , honest question .This is a good thing to have and not many teams have it so Skins fans should enjoy it ,will there be enough offense to go around, will there be enough balls on the O to keep everyone happy ?
|
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
that depends on DJ and roberts, i dont think anyone else is going to complain.

Not a good sign regardless. I can certainly sympathize with the man but unless you've been royally screwed you do not go public with these types of grievances. And when I say royally screwed I mean Reggie Ray screwed. |

Imo RG-3 will be happy winning. Garcon n DJax compliment each others games perfectly so they should each see their fair share of receptions. Reed is basically a rookie - and i dont think he has a diva give me the ball ego. Morris will be the feature back and happy about that. Moss, Hank, and Aldrick will be happy just to make the team n get paid. Helu will be happy being the third down back. What you have here is the perfect storm of talent and egos. Edit: Roberts will be happy too. He is going to see the same if not more action than he saw in arizona. Will be the slot guy. So again we have a collective group of puzzle pieces that will make a beautiful puzzle. Edit two: i cant wait to see this offense light teams up! HTTR! |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
a........beautiful puzzle....indeed
|
I'd say garçon will drop in catches obviously but he'll be fine w it. We'll have a top 10 offense Imo and hopefully beat your sorry giants for a change

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Still when Santana Moss is in the huddle the defense makes the necessary adjustments or its another touchdown. Last year was an anomaly. Shanahan had an awkward management style.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Roberts has said he wants to return punts and kick-offs and will be really happy if he gets the chance to do so. That's one way to keep him happy.
|
I'd rather have Roberts as our KR anyway. Now as far as PR I think DJ should have that role he's just too dangerous not to

One of the most frequent justifications that releasing DJax was the correct move that I saw from Eagle fans was that no one on the team spoke up for Jackson. It'll be interesting too see what the reaction is from here |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Great signing. No excuses for RG3 this year.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Hopefully none of his issues resurface.
Hopefully none of his issues resurface.
The thing is - none of his "issues" affected his ability to get on the field or his performance. And as far as the locker room- one of the few players on the eagles team with enough respect and would not have to fear anything- came out and vouches for Jackson and also doesn't know why he was released. Issues resurface? There hasn't been any that have surfaced. |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
If RG3 can go through his progressions even just a little more often than he did the year before last, our offense will be potent. If he makes real strides with progressions and not locking on, then our offense will be deadly. We now have the most deadly weapons on offense in the National Football League. I believe that he will put in the work necessary to make the most of this rare and golden opportunity.

Exactly. Never arrested, never suspended, never a dui or drug charge. Of course he did take a vacation in the offseason, probably gang bangin on some tropical island somewhere. |
Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
^^ yeah it was a recruitment vacation.

Somehow someone will turn that into a knock on him. Lol. He had his headphones on and seemed withdrawn from the team or something to that extent. |

people will always hate on certain players, Romo is the most hated QB I think in the history of the game and he hasn't done anything but bang hot chicks and golf lol. |

*alert* Former Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson has reportedly going to the bathroom before any other player on the team, in today's workout. Clearly gang related and showing he does not care about the team. *alert* |

*Update* Allegedly the bathroom break involved a meeting with the Easter Bunny, who, feeling the weight of a poor economy, was meeting with Jackson and associates for a deal on black market Peeps. |
