Ah. Ok. I imagine the staff will be filled quickly before the senior bowl.

That seemed to be a sure thing. I think for us it's down to Pettine, Tarver or Manusky. I liked Andre Carter so I hold his opinion of Tarver in high regard. |

Not just joe Barry. I was really discouraged by the reports of how bad Fewell did and the arguments between players If our secondary gets better coaching maybe we don't give up every 3rd and 30 to a simple crossing route. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk |
Re: The coordinators
I was shocked that Perry Fewell didn't do a better job with the DB's. It makes me wonder what's going on with that group.

Gus Bradley was not going to happen, let's pick one of the Ryan disciples and get going.

I'm not sure what to think of Manusky, but then I found this article...here's a few excerpts for the lazy (the guy writing this is not a Manusky fan)...

They would've hired him already if they were sold he would do a good job. |
Re: The coordinators
They need to get there s*&^ together and hire someone already!!!!!!!! Whatever system the new DC sets into place, the draft needs to reflect those needs. The scouts need to know this as they evaluate talent before the draft. Will they need DEs or another NT? I hope they do know something we don't and already have their man in place, and I hope it isn't Manusky. Nobody that was on Barry's staff has any business being a DC.

Re: The coordinators
I keep thinking there may be a "mystery" candidate whose team is still in the playoffs. If so, we could possibly know who that is by Monday.

The sooner we hire a guy the more time we have to evaluate our targets' talent. |
Re: The coordinators
Damn, I'll be really pissed if it's Raheem Morris. He doesn't have a great history of success or anything. He was passed over for this position for Joe Barry, and not surprisingly because we had just had 4 crappy years of secondary play under him. Promote Olividatti, who's apparently been impressive enough to keep around for 13 seasons while guys like Morris have been sent packing.
I don't get it really, I have heard good things about Olivadotti for years, But he doesn't seem to be interviewed ever for coordinator positions. Maybe he's just a really good position coach? |
Re: The coordinators
Welp, now we can say they screwed up the search, smh
Redskins to promote Greg Manusky to defensive coordinator, sources tell me and @RapSheet. This will be his fourth stint as a DC. |
Re: The coordinators
Enough with the due diligence.....It should be either Manasky, Pettine, or Thurman....they are treating this like it's a head coaching position in question.

Re: The coordinators
Could it be because we have not given Gruden an extension? Who would want to come in and then next yr Gruden is canned and the new coach cleans house again.
|
Re: The coordinators
One word........meh
|
Re: The coordinators
I don't want to be the next Solidsnake, aka joining the doom-and-gloom bandwagon. I know we have yet to see how this offseason will play out, and he might be a good coordinator if we get a solid talent upgrade. But if he's the same coach who got bounced at three other stops...
then this will be Gruden's downfall. 0 for 2 in a search for a good defensive coordinator when there were clearly better candidates available. Honestly hope I'm wrong on this, I would love to eat some crow. |
Re: The coordinators
Not sure I can put this on Gruden. There are things going on that are out of his control that are probably keeping other, better candidates from wanting to be here. The ONLY bright spot about this team last season was the offense, and now we have a new OC, and maybe Colt McCoy as the QB since the front office and Danny boy can't seem to decide if Kirk is worth a big contract. Top that off with the lack of talent on the defensive side...it's just not an appealing job. They kept Manusky on in the first place for this very reason. Just imagine if they had fired everybody on the defensive staff. We would truly be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Hopefully Greg can turn this thing around defensively. They'll be middle of the pack at best though if they don't figure out how to get their heads out of their asses with the QB situation though.
|
Re: The coordinators
Oh, and when I say I can't put this on Gruden...I should say that if he had hired a more competent D Coordinator two years ago we probably would be playing today rather than hiring Greg Manusky, and wondering who our QB will be next year.
|
Re: The coordinators
Talent > coaching
Until we upgrade the talent I don't care who the coach is |
Re: The coordinators
I must be the only one that likes this hire, I love his aggressiveness, intensity, leadership and passion. Haslett and Barry lacked those traits.
|
Re: The coordinators
1) I've been on the enthusiastic side of this board all season long, I think I was one of the less mad about our defense people around here, I still think this D is only a few pieces away from being efficient...
But. Meh is the word. 2) After the Manusky promotion, here are some of the things I need to happen during the offseason to keep my enthusiasm alive: -KC signed to a long term deal. -PG back. -Solid FA signings and draft on the defensive side of the ball. 3) What do you guys think will happen at the OC position? I haven't heard nor read a lot about that... ? Matt Cavanaugh? |

Re: The coordinators
I have to see his staff addition and what type of philosophy will he use. He reminds me of Joe Barry, a proven good POSITIONAL Coach who will likely fail as a DC.
|
Re: The coordinators
I don't see the offensive philosophy changing much with Cavanaugh as the OC. He is going to install Jay's offense and Jay is probably going to be calling the plays or dictating the play calling in some way.
|
Re: The coordinators
The thing I like about these in house hirings is the "don't completely swipe the table after our 2 best seasons in ages" philosophy. But I admit this offseason has to be convincing.
|
Re: The coordinators
Yeah I just read that seconds after posting (edited my post), what do you think about that promotion?
Fine with me, at the end of the day this is still Jay's offense and he will alway be heavily involved with it. |
Re: The coordinators
Still need 3 new coaches on defense, line, OLB, and secondary.
Offensive staff is set, I'm happy we went with Cavanaugh. If we can keep the same offense and improve red zone we'll be in a good place there. I'm glad we have extra picks because we need a lot of help on defense, but I also think we need to draft RB, a TE who can block, and someone who can play g/c. Still leaves 6 picks for defense. |

That would be some nice additions to the D staff. |
Re: The coordinators
Kind of anticlimactic. The Redskins took all this time and energy in finding a new defensive coordinator, and wound up promoting from within. Not trying to be negative, but I have a hard time believing Manusky was the best candidate for the job. I still believe this was a hire based on our top choices not wanting to come to Washington.
