Allen's skill set is more on the business/contracts side of things. He's not really know for being an astute personnel guy around the league
So who was in charge of personel in Oakland and Tampa when gruden & Allen worked together? Was there another key scout that they had in both places or was Gruden very involved in personel? I always thought Gruden was strictly a coach. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Gruden has always had a heavy say in personnel from what I understand. At least in Tampa.
I'm glad they brought someone in early.
They have an opportunity to study the players they currently have before moving on to the draft. 3 Games Left, Let players start earning roster spots for next year and figure out who can be let go.
It also alows us to be able to concentrate more on the guy coming as opposed to the guy going out. The focus can be shifted towards moving foreward. |

Grudens big complaint in Tampa was that the owner did not want to open his pocket. We all know thats not the case here. They easily could have won a Superbowl in Oakland if it wasn't for the tuck play. |
I think being the GM of a team that went to the Super Bowl (and winning one) is a good start. And I believe he had a good record when he was in Oakland.
Well I wouldn't give Allen credit for the TB SB cause those were not his players. And after that SB they really didn't so anything and he and Gruden got fired. He did a nice job bringing in some older vets in Oakland. I like the move but I'm going to take a wait and see attitude. I wanted a true personel guy first, not a business contract guy. They've already got a guy doing that. |

Wow! I was up early before this news broke, took a nap, just woke up and this! Wow!
I like the move, I must say. I hope the next move is to sign JC, but let's celebrate this while we can. |

Bruce Allen is a well respected guy around the NFL who will be the face of the Redskins. There is a whole scouting department and the coach to help him find and select the players. He may not have rings but he has always been involved in good organizations...the last time the Raiders were not a joke was when he was there. He will represent the Redskins very well IMO. I look forward to my Redskins not being a punchline anymore. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Give Snyder credit for being loyal to the redskins faithful. Hiring Gibbs and hiring George Allen's son keeps the Redskins tradition alive. Regardless of results, we can't say that Snyder doesn't try to keep the skins faithful happy (outside of the prices at FedEx)
All I need is Joe Gibbs president of football operations and Russ Grimm head coach and I'll be happy.
Side question.... anyone kinda okay with Zorn keeping his job? Stranger things have happened in Redskins land.
Demote Zorn to QB coach. |
