re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
I don't believe any D-Coordinator could succeed with our secondary.
Otherwise, our D is pretty solid in the front 7 and now that we've spent 2-3 years stocking our roster with 3-4 defenders, it would be stupid to go back to a 4-3 and spend another 3 years shuffling players back to that scheme. Fletcher, Cofield, Orakpo and Kerrigan can play in any scheme...the others are questionable. Maybe Bowen? Move Rak and Kerrigan to DE? Then who plays LB? We need to stay on the course we're on and not abandon the 3-4 so early. It we're in Year #5 and it's not working, sure, scrap the experiment but not yet...not before we've even assembled an entire 3-4 roster with quality players. I think one of the main reasons for the secondary's lack of depth now might be because we had to fill in the front 7 with 3-4 players in the transition. In my opinion, the transition is not yet complete until we restock the secondary. THEN we can fairly judge Haslett's and the 3-4 scheme's performance. Look at who we've added in the last three years on the Front 7 in the 3-4 switchover: Orakpo Kerrigan Cofield Bowen Jenkins Nield K. Robinson Blades Kehl Carriker Riley C. Wilson Jarmon (traded) R. Jackson M. White Worthington D. Scott V. Holliday (traded) That's a load of quality defenders...but doesn't leave a lot of room or money left for the secondary. In the beginning of the transition, our secondary was decent with Carlos Rogers and Hall at CB and Landry and Atogwe with plenty of serviceable depth. Reload the secondary and see if Haslett can do the job. THEN make the decision. Remember, starting over with a new DC and/or scheme will not produce immediate success either. I think we need to see this 3-4 implementation completely through..meaning addressing all 11 positions on D. |

Wade Phillips doesn't have our secondary. :D
My "sources" came from posting on the Broncos forum back in 2010 when I was trying to find out certain aspects about Shanahan's coaching such as his system, handling of players, drafting, etc. In response to my inquiries I got more then one person talking about how they missed Shanahan and how firing him was a mistake. Of course this was during the McDaniels era so I guess from that perspective you could take it with a grain of salt.
Still safe to say I love offenses that produce great rushers like they're nothing and make things much easier for the Quarterback.
I stand corrected. A fan forum woud be the place to inquire...well done. |
What matters more? That an oil man thinks Shanahan is an ahole, or that people in the NFL think he's a good coach?
Neither to me. I shouldn't even have posted that. |
Its amazing that the excitement of having RG3 cant even spark this team. I just hope the Skins don't lul RG3 to sleep and make him like all the rest that have come here in recent years. This team will put his character to the test for sure.
As much as I love having RG3 in DC, I almost hate it. For his sake.
As long as RG3 survives the current regime I really think he'll be fine long term. His intelligence and skill-set are concrete, and he'll flourish within any decent system. |

No Goat, that was awesome. Didnt know the oil business was so strong in Colorado. |

This place is comedy gold sometimes I swear.

Nope, he had a worse overall defense, and turned it around in one year. It's been done before, and will again, but not under anyone named Shanahan or Haslett. |

I meant what people say is irrelavent. Results are what matter, and Mike's results are the joke. |

Sorry, I'm too old and too smart for that! I want a win this week! There are things he can do right now but he's too conservative to do them. It's time to unleash a torrent of blitzes from everywhere on Carolina and see what happens. |
re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
Check his rankings. I bet you'll be surprised.
Denver Broncos Team Encyclopedia - Pro-Football-Reference.com Contrary to popular opinion, the Broncos didn't win all because of Elway. They had a top 10 D 7 times under him.
You're right Matty I was surprised. What else I find interesting is while Larry Coyer was DC from 2003-2006 his defenses were ranked 9-9-3-8 in points allowed but in the years without Coyer from the year 2000 the rankings are 23-21-15-28-30. Pretty bad. Don't know anything about Coyer but maybe Mike needs to bring him back. I'll admit I was wrong about Mike NEVER having a good defense. But without Coyer those were some pretty atrocious defenses. |

I'm dead serious. If the Skins go down this week, I think they should go down swinging. I'm tired of the Skins defense sitting back in a zone and reacting to whatever the offense throws at them. I say we should smack the offense in the mouth first and cause them to make some mistakes. The idea of waiting until next season to get better makes me sick. If I were in Mike Shanahan's shoes, I'd tell Haslett to come up with some new ideas now. Last in the NFL in defense is unacceptable. |
