Brown would be a very smart pick-up for us. See post # 344. He shouldn't break the bank. There's a fairly good market for Centers this year.

Pat Kirwan at NFL.com has Brown rated as the # 7 FA overall. Pro Football Weekly has him rated at # 11.

I have the flu but I don't have anything scheduled for tomorrow. I doubt I can sleep until I know what's going on with free agency anyhow. Whatever we do, I think we''ll be better off than last year and will upgrade some positions of need.

Not for a guy whose 25 and can play Center and Gaurd. He will command alot of money.

Well he could play Guard

With that age and the ability to play guard, he probably will command a good paycheck. But he should be relatively worth it

I understand this completely. I really do, but would'nt drafting Alex Mack accomplish the same thing for a lot less money?

I think we should go after Tank Johnson and not Haynesworth. Save some cap room. That way, we can fill other needs. Also, espn is reporting that Pats after DeAngelo Hall?

It seems like Jason Brown wants to come here, so I think we should just jump on the chance if it's there now and then come April maybe we can focus our attention at #13 on a position other than Guard

Heard the Dolphins are interested in Tank and vice-versa

I think that I'm still very much on the fence about Haynesworth.

Plus, there should not be a rookie learning curve like any in the draft. So he should be expected to be able to start right away.

Me too. At best, he could have the biggest impact of any player out there. At worst, the worse FA acquisition we've ever made.

I'll think we'll sign him, and I think the results will be somewhere in the middle.

Its pretty hard to top Jeff George for worst acquisition ever.

SmootSmack (and whoever else might have an inside read on the FO): are we gonna sign Hall or not? I'm so frustrated at this point. If current cap was an issue why didn't we cut Springs and sign Hall (his naturally replacement) simultaneously?

I wonder if Redskin One is airborne yet? Anyone else getting that excited/anxious feeling? Ahh yes, the eve of Free Agency, aka offseason Christmas for Redskins fans. It must have been like pulling teeth for Danny not to make any moves last year.

JASON BROWN SAYS RAVENS WILL CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE ON OFFENSE
Posted by Mike Florio on February 26, 2009, 7:09 p.m.

Ravens center Jason Brown will soon be playing for a new team. And it sounds like Brown is more than a little bitter over the team’s decision not to pay him the kind of contract he apparently will be getting on the open market.

“[F]or the last four years I’ve poured out my heart and my soul to that team,” Brown said during an appearance on Sporting News Radio’s The Monty Show. “Any and everything that you could possibly say or do to be that guy, the type of caliber player where any team out there would say, ‘Hey that’s the type of guy we want, that we need on our team,’ that’s me. I’m not trying to pump myself up right now, but that’s how I have to feel because I’ve done everything possible to market myself and to build my stock over the last four years.”

Brown also thinks that the decision not to keep him arises from an ongoing philosophy to invest money onto the defensive side of the ball.

“And I do realize they’re in a binding situation right now and if you look at the history with Baltimore they’ve always been a defensive team and with the stance their taking with me right now looks as though they will continue to be a defensive team that struggles offensive wise,” Brown said.

Brown has been informed that the Ravens won’t be attempting to re-sign him. Candidates to land him include the Redskins, Dolphins, Vikings, and Rams.

Don't need it. Jason Brown can be brought in by limo from B-more and Hall is in-house. Anything other than those two is gravy.

Even Dock can just catch the train down to DC LOL.

I'm looking for Hall and Dock tonight. The rest... eh.

Edit: Ok maybe Willis too.

Jason Brown is looking to become one of the highest paid interior linemen in the NFL. Do you really think he's worth that kind of money to play center for us?

Personally, no. Sandwiched between big Dock and a resurgent Thomas (or Rinehart or Jansen possibly) Rabach is serviceable.

He ain't getting Faneca $$$. When he makes a Pro Bowl then he can think about asking for that. If he has unreasonable demands, then pass on him.

The interest in both sides, but it's apparently more from Brown's side then the Redskins. If we do sign him, Kendall is basically gone

Couldnt agree more. He might not get Faneca $, but who knows? Look at the contract Dockery got from the Bills. Noone expected a slightly-above average interior lineman to fetch that kind of money.

That would not upset me too much because we would be getting younger at that position. On the other hand it doens't do much for the whole picture on the offensive line. We still have questions at RG and RT. We would still need to make at least one more move for a T and move Jansen inside. I know that I am stating the obvious but...

Re: 2009 Free Agents

I think one thing we should remember is the history of monster deals...

dockery 7 year 49mill -> dumped in two years
champ 2billion -> making insane money on one of the leagues worst defenses (And pass defenses).
arch/lloyd -> yeah, us too, go figure
kearse/etc etc etc

lots more, but there seems to be an awful high tendency for the highest paid FAs (that change teams) to end up as wasted money... and because of our cap situation, haynesworth is the all or nothing gamble (whereas, in tampa, they have 50mill after his signing, so its not either/or with them (ie EITHER haynesworth fixes all our problems (offense too) OR it's a mistake to choose him over OL/CB/DE/etc)).

if browns coming that means that either hall or haynesworth aren't.

we could do dock/brown/willis (OL), crowell (LB), hall or foxworth (CB), nugent (K -> this wont happen) or a punter, then draft a DE keep our DTs, and go OL or LB in the 3rd...

we'll see, but honestly, it's safer (much less likely to end up with a bad outcome) short and long term to diversify since we've got a lot of obvious holes.

I agree with your thesis but Danny and Sarge are going to do what they want. Right now NFLN still has us as the front runners for AH. I have no reason to not believe them.
