Yeah I think it'd take a lot for Cowher to go elsewhere if he's offered the Panthers job.

honestly, after what happened to marty, then the smear campaign against gregg williams, then the public castration of zorn . . .what coach with any amount of respect would come here? i think there was a reason zorn was named HC two years ago and i think what has happened to zorn only reinforced the impressions and notions other coaches had of what to expect if they came.
I would agree with you. Why would any coach who has any self respect want to come to DC and deal with our management? It doesn't matter who comes here he will be emasculated by Danny and Vinny.

This is an empty gesture as it will not affect anything, but if Vinny is not fired after this season, I'm going to start supporting another teams....with the exception of NFC East teams

Jim Zorn is going to stay as our coach..holmgren as GM!

SBXVII 12-06-2009 08:17 PM

Re: Our next coach??

If anyone deserves to stay it's Sherm Lewis. He has single handedly turned our offense somewhat around and has them unpredictable. Everytime Zorn gets his hands on the team they fail.....ie; 2 min. drills.

GTripp0012 12-06-2009 08:23 PM

Re: Our next coach??

Sherm Lewis probably saved Devin Thomas' career. If nothing else, Vinny owes him a gift basket, and a month's worth of gas cards for that.

And our next coach will be:

Next Redskins coach will be... | Truth & Rumors | FanNation

If it happens this way then:

1) We KNOW Lil D has learned absolutely nothing over ten years of ownership. I mean i've said a million times already Shanahan is probably the only big name coach who'd work for Lil D because 1) the rest don't want the "Snyder" blemish on their resume and 2) Shanahan has always been about the money.

2) The team will remain mediocre at best and downright awful most of the time. Vinny's continued presence simply verifies the tiny man in the owner's box can't put his ego aside and bring in a legitimate professional. I tend to think this will be the pivotal "off-season" in Snyder's ownership i.e. staying the course now probably means his ownership will be a failure throughout. When you look at Steinbrenner's history he seemed to learn after a decade or so he wasn't the smarter person in baseball, or within the organization, or in the room even. Snyder's reputation, if he has one yet, is his unyielding belief in the superiority of himself and his own intelligence.

3) And finally there's the lame reality for those of us who enjoy consistent, quality football that we'll be forced to "follow" another team alongside the circus that is Redskins Park. Actually not so bad. The older I get I appreciate character and excellence more and more in people and it's cool to follow those types through their careers...and especially so in the NFL cuz, well, football will always be the greatest sport.

Re: Our next coach??

I agree with keeping Sherm on.. possibly in a "larger role" ...or more like a "larger title"? Off Coord. perhaps... and I have a gut feeling that they are going to bring in Chucky.

If nothing else, Snyde is going to try to keep his revenue-machine rolling. He knows that cannot continue with Cerrato. The best thing he could do is back-off and bring in someone strong as G.M.. How many decades will it take for him to realize that our beloved Skins are not his fantasy team?

The more I hear it's a lock the more I doubt it happening. Remember Grilliams and Fassel were 'locks' at one point in '08.

Supposedly DS was up late meeting with someone or some people whome no one knows who they were. Secret squarl stuff ya know. I think it makes sense. Snyder is likely close to panic mode. None of the big-name, quality coaches will return his phone calls, and he needs to make a big splash both to keep the fans interested and to satisfy his ego. Shanahan just wants one more huge payday, and he's a smart guy. He'll take a pile of money and stick around a few years till Snyder (and probably Cerrato still) get bored, frustrated or whatever and then Shanahan will retire.

This is all fan driven speculation. We don't know of any coaches, big or small names, that have accepted or refused Snyder's calls. For all we know Snyder and Cowher talk every Tuesday at 11. At this point it's far more likely that Snyder hasn't spoken to anyone because he has a head coach for the next month and there's no point in talking to anyone about a position that's not vacant yet. There would be no reason to panic in December about not getting a chance to speak to potential coaches.

Please let it be Cowher....

To be honest, if we can't land Cowher, i'm on board from promoting Lewis and Meidt: Lewis as HC and and Meidt as OC. Lewis is old, but the spark he's brought this team is undeniable. If he didn't want the job (and at his age, i'd understand), then i'm all for promoting Gray or bringing back GG. basically, our offense finally seems like its clicking and, unless we bring in Cowher, I don't want to see it change.

To be honest, I would no longer be as upset if Vinny sticks around. His 2008 draft picks all seem to be panning out nicely and he was on the money bringing in Lewis. Of course, if the rumors are true about Vinny bad-mouthing Snyder around the league, he might be gone no matter what.

We are talking about Snyder right? No, DS was upset after the Detroit loss and flew to Denver to meet with Shanahan. The team denied, denied, denied, until finally some how it leaked that DS did go to Denver to meet with Shanahan. Any HC in his right mind would not want to take over a team mid season. As Shanahan said it would not change anything. He most likely would not be allowed to bring in a whole new coaching staff, most likely some of the Asst. coach's or position coach's he would want are not available right now and he would have to wait until the season ends to get them so bringing him in then would have not accomplished anything. We still would have been losing and fans might have turned on said new HC as well. No sense in ruining your popularity prior to getting your people in place to take over.

I think Shanahan wants the Skins job. I don't doubt he and DS have talked and worked out an agreement. DS waited and took his time to speak with HC's then went about it the wrong way the last time so I'm sure he's making sure his ducks are in a row this time, his new HC has time to start rolling right at season's end, and DS gets the man he wants prior to anyone else.

I like Cowher too but I get the feeling or maybe it's his actions that he just is not interested in being the HC of the Skins. I honestly think he wants the Carolina job and might have a side agreement for after this season he would take over. I also wonder if his decisions are not tied to his kids and college. Are any of them in any of the N.Carolina colleges? or is it closer to a house he owns or something? It shocked me that it was mentioned he was interested in possibly the Buc's also. Maybe it's more his wife and kids wanting to go somewhere warm vs. a cold weather climate.

I agree. I have stated before all this speculation about a new coach is just that (speculation). No one in a position of authority has stated as fact that Zorn will (without a doubt) be fired. Until that notion becomes final, then everything about a new coach in just speculative, and breeds a wide range of opinions none of which may amount to a hill of beans.

The Redskins have a coach, and until he's dismissed other coaching prospects aren't likely to discuss possibilities that fans will have knowledge of. The fans and the media have been firing Zorn since week three, he's still here with four games left to play and has done a great job at keeping this team together, playing hard with little to play for as a reward for this season. I'll discuss the prospects of a new coach if/when Zorn is dismissed.

Let me clarify.. I agree about what happened after the Detroit game and possibly even the KC games. My point was specific to in recent weeks. I can't see where it would be a benefit for Snyder to be making calls and inroads with people right now rather than waiting until the season is over.

Shanny and Snyder probably have talked in hypotheticals about contract and organizational parameters. I think if it's Shanny, it happens within 3 days (interview Blache and/or Gray for Rooney) of the season ending. The only delay could be if Dallas makes the playoffs and Shanny waits to see if Phillips is fired when they lose.

Cowher lives in Raleigh, NC about 2 miles from where I live. I'm assuming his daughters go to NC State, although UNC isnt too far of a drive. Cowher lives about 2-1/2 hours from Charlotte and 4-1/2 hours from Landover. I definitely think Cowher and the Panthers makes the most sense, but its also possible he's leveraging the Panthers to get more control and/or money from Snyder.

I agree with your timeline. I don't think any of the big name coaches out there take a job before finding out what Dallas does. Even if they their eyes on another team, making a decision without allowing Dallas to help drive up their asking prices just doesn't make any sense. And from Snyder's perspective, he'd probably want to wait until the NFL season is to ensure the media's attention is focused soley on his team.

I thought it might be Cowher, but he's apparently not in the mix at all. Shanahan still the rumored lead-but if Houston and/or Dallas come calling it will be a tough sell. Steve Mariucci not interested in moving east. If Houston lets Kubiak go...I'd like to consider him, but he's not an option right now. If Dallas hires Mike Shanahan, Jason Garrett could be an option...but I don't see it because of the backlash that would create (though I don't think that should dictate the decision). Brian Billick not being discussed as far as I know, though my gut still tells me he's in the picture. Other guys like Ron Meeks could get interviewed again. But I think at that point they're more likely to just stick with Zorn. And then there's Pete Carroll who is rumored to be near the top of a couple of team's lists (though not the Redskins) and who spoke at length with the Redskins the last time around.

As always, January-April will be fun for Redskins fans

I've read that Cowher's not in the mix at all myself, but I simply can't beleive he wouldn't be. He's the "biggest fish" out there and I don't see how Snyder could help himself. I realize that the current organizational structure here isn't what Cowher (or any respectable coach) would want, but i think its understood that the organizational structure here would change to suit a guy like Cowher. Gibbs return to the Skins came out of left field. So did Zorn's hiring. I think whatever happens, its going to take most of us completely by surprise. I simply don't see Zorn staying though. After a season that will likely end at or below 5-11, Snyder can't keep him around. It would be a PR nightmare. Besides that, Zorn is really just an impotent figurehead right now. If Snyder can't land ahis "big fish," I think promoting Jerry Gray or Sherm Lewis becomes the most likely option.

Agreed on Weis. I'm starting to like Bradford over Clausen a bit. I don't know, they're neck and neck for me. Need to see how Bradford performs at the combine. Of course, this is all assuming they go QB in the 1st round
