So Shanahan (Mike and/or Kyle) is close to happening allegedly. One thing I wonder is this. Mike Shanahan wouldn't come here now as head coach because Zorn is still here and they wouldn't (I don't think) fire him with just three weeks to go. But...they could hire him now just as President. And then Head Coach later?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Why is Allen better then VC?
Easily....Allen picks players from the draft that are actually needed on the team. Plus he has decent scouts checking them out. VC has had crappy scouts and only picked Best Player Available. BPA is not a bad idea if your team has no significant needs but when you have glaring needs you have to pick for that position. |

Why is it that some people have to complain about everything? Vinny is gone, and this hiring is a start in the right direction. I could care less of what Bruce Allen's draft history is, this is a new start for him. When he was in Tampa he had a owner who didnt like to spend money for players, that is not a problem here. We all should be happy that Danny boy has decided to take a new approach on how to run this team. This is want all Redskins fans wanted to see, and it came true. I know we havent had a good run organization since he took over as owner, so hopefully this is a start in the right directions. As Redskins fans all we have is hope. |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
honestly i really don't think any changes need to be made in the coaching staff. i know i'm probably in the minority but bringing in yet another coach means more change and possibly more set backs. make lewis the oc and let him call the plays and let zorn keep game planning and working with jc and i think we're on our way. i'd keep blache if he wants to stay, if not then hire grey as dc and let's keep things stable.
So basically you absolutly believe the Cerrato propaganda about Zorn game planning and all Sherm Lewis is doing is calling the plays to JC? You still can't be that nieve? Zorn had no clue as to what was wrong with the team, he had no clue as to how to fix it other then to say his system is not the problem and that it was all about execution. The team goes out and picks up a retired OC and he comes in and everything starts looking better. Even B-Bitch said we actually look like we are finally running a WCO. Sherm Lewis fixed this problem. Sherm Lewis did what Zorn could not do with a whole healthy team. Plus it's not all about the offense gelling...Levi Jones recently came in, Dockery is new this year, the RG is new and Heyer. Basically the OL has had 2-3 weeks tops to gel. Sherm Lewis did more for this club then Zorn, everything from the game plan to the play calls. You want proof? Zorn was in control during the last 2 min. of each quarter. He also handled the Redzone. Both are areas that were bad even after Sherm Lewis came to the Skins. I'm believing they took that away from Zorn cause we actually have been better and have started scoring more. Plus clock management has gotten better. So please everyone stop with the "I hope we keep Zorn cause he has figured this thing out" and "Zorn deserves more time" ....to what? continue to be mediocre? If you want to keep Sherm Lewis to help out the new HC then it might work out but Zorn has to go. He sucks. |

Well he at least is a proven offensive coordinator, not something you could say about Zorn when he was hired. Either way, it's more likely that he will follow his dad wherever he goes. Whether it's here or Dallas. Kyle Shanahan was an assistant coach under Allen, so that's something to keep in mind. I'm still a little shocked over all this news though. I mean I knew we were going to name someone General Manager soon, and I knew Allen was a finalist. But I was certain it would end up being someone else and I didn't think it would happen so quickly. Mike-I suppose. Kyle-no.
By the way, if you guys here any talk about Cerrato being a "consultant" to the team. Don't get worked up over it. He has no role with the team. It's just that he's still under a contract for a few more months so that's his new title. Nothing to worry about |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
IMO this season was all on the HC, if we had a coach that played to our player's strengths we would be much better as a team.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I just re-watched Allen's conference, and what struck me was how much he reminded me of his father's famous Dallas speech: 53 men working together cannot be beat. His starting line and several other times echoed that thought. I think this is a good day.
DS looked downright uncomfortable in front of the press. Also interesting no SB trophies on display today. I actually liked that. Let's go earn some that he can really display. |

No, the Vinny would have given up the 1st and 2nd rounder to move up in the draft 2 or 3 spots and picked up a QB. The 3rd was used on Jarmin who will be another great player like Orakpo. The 4th round would have been a Free Safety. The 5th round would have been a LB. I'm not sure if we have a 6th round or not anymore in regards to the Jason Taylor issue and the 7th round would have been a RB. Vinny would have invited 3 OL who were not drafted to show up in the summer and most likely cut them causing the team to look into FA. :) |

Jason Taylor was a NEED, we lost 2 DE's before the season started and at the time he was a double digit sack man. noone saw him coming here and laying an egg. Would you rather nothing was done at all??

Well then you will like this quote from the post press conference press conference (from Terls blog)
On what [Bruce Allen] looks for in a head coach: "You answered your own question – it's the leader of the team. He's the leader of the organization throughout sports. The Dodgers were better when they got a better manager. Period."
|

I agree basically, and at the time certainly supported it, BUT, also felt the deal was an unfavorable one. I think it is possible that possibly someone with better interpersonal skills could have addressed it differently and in a way that I would have supported just as much as bringing in the guy from Miami. |

It was supply and demand, look at how the Giants were done by SD. They knew manning wanted them and vice versa. But how bad did they want him? they played to it just like Miami played to the notion that we needed a DE and they didnt want Taylor at that time. |

I'm really not arguing that point. I do say it's possible someone else may have handled it a different way, but if Taylor had come in played healthy and we saw the output we all hoped for than hindsight wouldn't be involved. My point on VC's out and Allen in, mainly is the atmosphere/attitude change. VCs presence, i believe, fostered a how do i protect myself mentality; BAs presence, from basic initial look, seems like it will foster a team first, leave the excuses at the door, mentality. And it represents a first step away from a DS centric operation. BA sounds like Redskins first DS second. Not once did he make a "kissup" comment to DS. He came in with a professional tone that hey I am here to do my job, and build the Redskin team. Even when he praised it was the ownership group, not "I want to thank DS". Heck its one press conference, who knows but it sounded right by my ears. |

Let's go earn some that he can really display.
Exactly. It's time to move forward. There have been many bad decisions in the last 10 years and we have earned next to nothing. I'm tired of only finding joy in my favorite team from what was done over a decade ago. This is the best sign I have seen from Danny since he hired Joe Gibbs. But even that was trying to grasp something from the past that didn't belong to him. Hiring a GM, regardless of who his father was, is the biggest step into the future this franchise has taken since Snyder became owner. I fully expect Allen to hire top professional personell and take this organization to the top. This decision shows maturity on Snyders part. Allen has admitted mistakes in the past with the draft and I expect him to hire and lean more on the professionals he hires. My hope has always been that Snyder would stop treating the Redskins as his own personal toy to play with, and turn this back into the professional winning organization we were so proud of. This is, at least, a step in that direction. |

I....guess I was put on blast, huh. I never said anything negative about the Jason Taylor trade other then to say I was not sure if we had a 6th rounder or not. I thought the whole deal was done and over, but someone recently mentioned we do not have our 6th round due to the trade. As far as I know it has not been confirmed nor denied. So.....thanks for blasting me. However I did feel we needed him and was exited we got him, at the time, but also felt we gave up a lot to get him. I just figured he would tear the place up and we would be signing him to a longer contract. Instead we got hosed and not only did Miami get two picks out of the deal but with a one year seperation they got their man back and kept our two picks. We were railroaded. The NFL should have stepped in and either had Miami give one pick back or compensated us with a draft pick. |

Yea, I guess MS said he wouldn't take over mid season. Doesn't mean they couldn't hire him for 2010 or talk to him about next year. I'm not sure they wouldn't just cut Zorn go and name an interim. The potential was exciting but we gave far too much to get him... 8m a year, a 2nd.. and a 6th.. for a potential 2 years. We were looking to replace Daniels who is a completely different type of DE than Taylor, so it was not an appropriate choice. I know I was hoping that it would work out and thought less about that at the time, but yeah. |
