Re: Coaching Staff update
Is it just me or is anyone else not completely sold on the Chris Foerster acquisition (OL coach). From a rushing standpoint he was mediocre in Baltimore and downright bad in San Fran. I don't know where the "highly regarded for his work with the 49ers" on DC Pro Sports is coming from...I don't like this signing at all.
2005: 42 sacks allowed 2006: 19 sacks allowed 2007: 39 sacks allowed 2008: 55 sacks allowed 2009: 40 sacks allowed Now admittedly he didn't have the best quarterbacks (J.T. O Sullivan, Kyle Boller) but don't you guys think Shanahan could have brought in someone a little better? |

The Redskins show their intentions with the hiring of coach McVay, they plan to blow this team up. ;)
I just couldn't resist. I've been thinking this since I saw that he was hired. LOL. |

Re: Coaching Staff update
How is it we don't have a receivers coach yet?
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
Per Jason Reid:
One name that might be intriguing is former Bucs receiver Keenan McCardell. He's searching for a job as a wide receivers coach, and he obviously has ties to both Bruce Allen and Kyle Shanahan. |
How is it we don't have a receivers coach yet?
Our receivers have shown that they can coach themselves. More seriously, perhaps we are waiting on Indy or New Orleans. |

I was wondering the same thing - I thought that it was going to be Mann, but his name hasn't been heard since the interviewing... I am not as worried about it though, since we are not (I hope) looking at WR's in the draft or FA (unless it's someone specific to Shanahan or Shanahan :) ) |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Is Dr. James Andrews still our team doctor?
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
Indy and NO have both done a good job of developing late round receivers into very good starters, but i give most of the credit for that to the starting QBs of those teams. they are both very very accurate, making the receivers job much easier.

Yes sir. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
I honestly like the idea of developing McCardell as a WR coach or getting Indy's WR coach Clyde Christensen. However Clyde is an assistant Head Coach. I don't think we offer that here.

I do agree that a lot of the credit should go to the QB. However, with the Saints, while I'm not trying to take away much from Brees, I do see a lot of their receivers being able to make adjustments (Henderson's catch on that flea-flicker in the AZ/NO game) and being able to go up in the air and catch the ball. I really want to see our receivers being able to do more of that in the coming seasons. |

i agree for the most part, espescially manning cause he has to be one of the most accurate passers ever, i mean after watchin the game vs the jets the placement he had on his passes were absolutly unreal |

Apparently we are looking for a "Strength and Conditioning" coach.

I'd seriously would love to see Clyde Christensen here but as you said we can't offer anything more then what he already has.... unless his contract is up this year and we offer more money? |

I certainly would not oppose that suggestion, Riley did a masterful job with the team for a long time. By the way, where is Riley, and what is he doing these days? |

Good work! I remember reading he had joined the Texans staff in 2007 but wasn't aware of his most recent whereabouts. Thanks for the update. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
the good news about this is that our strength and conditioning staff was not all that good considering we had like 10 players on IR, as well as players like Albert Haynesworth getting gased during games. We should bring in either steelers or cardinals strength and conditioning people. Because those teams always stay fairly healthy come playoff time.

Things like Cooley breaking his ankle, Samuels' degenerative neck condition, and Rinehart's broken leg have nothing to do with poor conditioning. Mike Williams tearing a muscle in his foot isn't a conditioning issue. These kind of things don't fall on the trainers. Did you know the Saints have more players on IR than the Redskins? They're in the Super Bowl. I doubt they fire their staff. I'm not sure what metrics are used to judge a strength and conditioning staff. I mean, a big part of it has to do with the players' willingness to train hard. I don't think season ending injuries are the fault of s/c coaches. I do know that the past two seasons we didn't have nearly as many of the strains/pulls we dealt with during Gibbs' 2.0. I know a couple of guys who were on this staff the past few years, so obviously I'm biased here. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
On a side note Earnest Byner went to the Titans for 2 year and look how that turned out... not sure if letting him go was ever a good decision.

Interesting how some of these guys have had ties to Allen, Shanahan (either or), AND Haslett perhaps Haslett and Shanahan have shared recommendations more often than we'd think I don't know about Hilliard's coaching abilities but the players might respect someone that just came out of the league and is more like "one of them" .. then again, that could be a downfall too |

I may be totally off base but it just never seems like the skins are in the type of physical condition of other teams. While a lot of that has to do with an individual players attitude toward doing the work I think a lot of it has to fall on the strength coaches, I say good move. |

I would stress 'decent' for McCardell but if we are getting a rookie WR coach then we might as well get the greatest : Art Monk! He will gain instant respect in the locker room. |

Re: Coaching Staff update
I'll be the Debbie Downer....
During Gibbs tenure we went out and picked up a "College" WR coach. As I see it he failed. Never developed anyone. Now we are going to hire an "Ex-WR"? One that has never coached in the NFL? and if I'm not mistaken one in which always had issues where ever he went? We might as well have hired T.O. as WR coach. I for some reason don't see the Skins having much change in this area and this area was the second major need of change. A bonified WR coach to develope these talented WR's we have. I guess the good news is he's young. Maybe if anything McCardell actually acts like a team player for a change on the coaching staff and realizes how difficult he made it on his coach's. Hell maybe he can relate.....especially to Brandon Marshall if brought on board. :) I just hope he learned something while at the Giants coaching camp. |
