I don't think there's any way the Rams pass on Sam Bradford.
I do, they don't have a decent vet. On top of that they don't have a decent QB period and everyone wants them to take a chance on a Rookie QB? You do realize this may be Spano's last yr and he may not want to risk it with an unknown commodity? McNabb is better then any Rookie for two reasons...

1- you know what your getting. An NFL proven QB.
2- He's been to the SB before.

but I'll give you a nugget. Some Rams fans I hear are not infatuated with JC. There way of thinking is if we don't want him why would they? However the Rams were in talks with the Eagles in regards to McNabb they just could get a deal done.
McNabb got just as many of his completions from dumpoffs as Campbell did. Fact: McNabb had 15 passes of 20+ yards and Campbell had 14. Calling that an upgrade is stretching: McNabb is simply less accurate.

He just got even more yards from down the field plays, which won't translate for all of the obvious reasons.
those obvious reasons = our receivers won't get open down the field?

maybe with a less vanilla offense they will

I mean when DT says something like Shanahan was shocked that we were running shit that we were.. gives me a lil hope

at least that gives you a reason to say that it wasn't McNabb it was Shanahan if Donovan does well ;)

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Actually most of the time it was JC's bad play, the o-line's horrible play, and Zorn's horrible play calling.
Early in the season the OL wasn't terrible, once Samuels went down and Heyer moved over.....well we all know what happened from there. Zorn certainly left something to be desired in playcalling too.

But, when Campbell had chances he didn't capitalize and often made mistakes. You know the old first read's covered.....straight to check-down routine. Or the misread the D and throw into 2x or 3x coverage. Or don't bother to look off the safety, misread coverage and throw the ball up for a pick. Or make bad throws on the fade/go routes that would've been TDs.....etc,etc,etc.

Oh wow... I didn't know they had to clear any pick ups through Campbell? If I was Shanahan I'd say "Jason, I'm the HC not you. I don't have to run anything through you. You want to play? study and work hard. Beat out the other QB's on the roster."

This is a bit off topic, but who's he going to throw to? Our receivers haven't exactly lit up the field in recent years.

Is D Jackson that much better than Santana? Can I get away with saying that Cooley and Davis are better than Celek and whoever their other guy is?

I think D. Thomas and Kelly are right there with the other nobody receivers that McNabb threw to.

I really hope we aren't getting that excited over this deal. I mean yeah it's McNabb and maybe this makes us better in the short term but it definitely doesn't make us better long term. And I feel like this hurts Campbell's trade value, because this is officially us saying we don't give a crap about him and he could probably be had for a dime or less.

Like SS already said we will probably see Shanny make some head scratching decisions as coach and I feel like this is the first one. McNabb is good, but #1 he's old, and #2 he's had injury problems. Those are never good combinations. He's going to give us 3-5 years at best and if things don't start out so well I'm probably being generous with that estimate.
I wonder how much Brett Favre and Kurt Warner being very productive late in their careers influenced this move. You have to think, McNabb is 33 years old. No, he's no spring chicken, but he has more than enough gas in the tank. If we can draft a top flight QB in the next year or two, make a playoff run in the meantime, this move was well worth it.

In the end I think Philly did a poor job on the communications end when trade rumors started to swirl a few weeks ago. The longer it dragged on, the viable options started to dwindle and they were in a PR pickle. There's no way in hell the Redskins were on the radar when this all started. I feel like we lucked up big time on this one.
Apparently we put a bit out there.. so did some other teams.. we "sweetened the pot" a bit and Donovan chose which team out of the bunch that he wanted

I'm with you on this one Mooby! If McNabb is healthy, we're in the playoffs (assuming our OL is fixed!) But, if he gets hurt...Grossman here we come! I do see us drafting a QB at #4!

Will this trade with Philly supplant the rivalry between the 'Skins and Cowboys? For years it seemed as if the "hate" between Dallas and Washington was nonexistent. Now, there is something very personal between the Redskins and Eagles. Should provide copious amounts of drama this season and beyond.

skinsfanthru&thru 04-04-2010 11:48 PM

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!

and they also made the interesting comment that when Shanahan went to the Broncos, Elway was actually a year older than Mcnabb is right now and we know how well that duo went. I'm still of very mixed feelings about this just mainly because I've rooted against the guy for over a decade now and overnight I'm going to be rooting for him when he dons the burgondy and gold. But it is exciting to think about what he could do with a viable running game behind him while with our team and what he did with young talented wrs in Jackson, Maclin, and Celek and hope he can do the same with Thomas, Kelly, Cooley, and Davis.

Donovan was #1 QB last year with 17 plays over 40+ yards.
Campbell was #12 with 8.

Not if you consider that McNabb has continually sniffed success and taken a few bites of it too.

Man we get that you don't like the trade but the way that you're twisting this is silly. You call him the worst in the division, then your stats don't back it up. But then when people say just his play is better it's back to breaking it down.

No need to justify your dislike by twisting it around.

You raise some good points, but what has Campbell given us in five years? And if McNabb can give us three really good years, I think it was worth it.

In terms of Campbell's trade value, well, it is what it is. I'm not sure if this really drops his value all that much. It's no big secret that we've trying to part ways with him since last year.

Personally, I'm done with Santana. Santana hasn't been worth two shits since '05.

Cooley is fine, but offenses can go only so far if their best receiving threat is a tight end who has trouble finding the endzone.

Anyway, Monkeyboy OBVIOUSLY didn't look at Campbell's stats when he posted that. he barely did better with better receivers and a FAR better o-line. Not to mention that Donovan, who i respect, hasn't lasted a full season but once in the last 5 or 6 seasons. Imagine him after the Saints game i so often bring up. he didn't stand a chance, wheras JC almost beat them (if not for Sellers' fumble). After the first late hit on Donovan, or maybe the 8th, he'd have been on a stretcher! If Donovan stays, we better jump through all the hoops and overpay JC to be the #2 guy, cuz i don't see our o-line being good enough to keep McNabb healthy. He'll be nailed in the first quarter against the Giants or Cowgirls and he won't get up till the next wednesday.
someone from scouts inc thinks the raiders could offer their 2nd rounder for campbell. if somehow we can recoup a 2nd round pick, we'd essentially be swapping campbell for mcnabb and a 3rd or 4th rounder next year. that would be an excellent piece of business if we could do that.

Really? Anyone who's not a Redskins fan knows that Eagles/Cowboys has been the best rivalry in the NFC East in recent years. If anything this trade brings Skins/Boys back to forefront as the premier rivalry in the division. Maybe.
