How would each FA QB signing not impact the price of the number 2 pick? If Flynn goes to Cleveland, and Peyton goes to Miami, how could the Rams still demand what they are demanding?
The big thing with the Rams is that they need the Redskins to be involved to get value on the second pick.

I see people talking as if Shanahan is going to try to leverage his relationship with Jeff Fisher to make a deal. But it's a two way street. As long as the Rams and Redskins have reports of a handshake deal for the second pick, teams know that the Browns and Vikings picks just aren't as valuable.

If the Redskins were to walk away from the table entirely, Griffin wouldn't be a lock to go second overall, and the Dolphins could start negotiating with the Vikings and Browns for a better price. But as long as the Redskins are involved and the Rams know that they can get at least the Redskins 2013 pick for the second pick, now the Vikings and Browns aren't sellers for RG3.

So this business relationship isn't just going to benefit the Rams. But the person who is unquestionably a winner of this 'handshake deal' is RG3.

Since 1967 only one QB taking number 2 overall as a winning record.. That would be Mr. Donovan Mcnabb

If everyone just agreed with me, the forum and the world for that matter would be a much better place. But signing Eddie Royal and VJax for example and Ben Grubbs now our WR position is a strength vs. a weakness, add that to a returning Cooley and Davis and our skill positions look like:

RB Helu/Royster/Hightower
WR VJax/Hankerson/Gaffney/Royal/Moss
TE Davis/Cooley

I would take that but a WR steal in the draft: Reuben Randle from LSU in the 3rd round.

1) he would never be unconditionally loved by Washington fans, despite being the best quarterback picked by the team since 1950.

2) Luck would probably have a much better career

With the hype meter where it is on Griffin, he actually has to have a much better career than McNabb did to meet those expectations.

Ok so you know how everyone starts off with "my inside source".... well I'm starting off with "my outside source" not sure where they heard if from possibly the radio but ....

The Skins have a package deal they will offer the Rams. If the Rams do not except it then thats it. Apparently MS is sticking by the we are not going over board to get RGIII, but they are interested. They supposedly do not want to hinder what this team can do in the draft. Again... out side source.

If the Rams don't take the offer then the back up plan is to try heavily to sign PM and draft Tannehill or Weeden. Again my outside source could be a moron. But the way he presented it sounded like it was somewhat legit. Perhaps it was on the radio and I missed it or somewhere.

Another part of it is they are going to let Lickenstieger (sp) go because they are going to get the Saints OL who is a FA. I think he is a Left Guard. They are also interested in picking up the ??? RT from Baltimore? if I'm correct. He is supposed to be a FA. Then of course they will be looking at WR also.

Again I'm not saying it's 100% true, just putting it out there in case others heard the same thing to verify it. In the end I'd be happy with this way of thinking.

Oh and so thinking does not go ary the "hinder what we do in the draft" part is they don't want to mortgage the teams future. Maybe it is the 2012: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2013:1st. IDK, but they supposedly have a package ready to offer and will not offer anything more. I think the Rams obviously will want to play us against the Browns and from what I was told MS will not barter. The offer will be made and if it's not good enough then on to plan B.

Once you get that QB you can build around then the depth moves and the trade downs make more sense and suddenly you look like a genius. For now trading down for average depth players is putting lipstick on a pig. How is an extra linebacker, an average receiver, or a starting Guard going to get us in the playoffs compared to drafting a first tier franchise QB?

Unless you end up with Patrick Willis, Andre Johnson, and Carl Nicks with those draft picks it won't even start to compare to the impact a franchise QB brings to the table.

And I'm sorry but all of those second tier guys at QB (Foles, Weeden, Tannehill, Ossweiler, etc) are going to be dwarfed at the end of their careers by the acheivements of a certain Robert Griffin III.
When the bears failed to call in their draft day trade with the ravens, the ravens appealled to the league and asked to be awarded they extra pick they would have gotten in the deal. The league declined I think in part b/c the ravens still got the player they were targeting (j smith), the ravens could have called it in themselves instead of relying on the bears assurances they made it official and the bears did a decent mea culpa song and dance.

If a handshake deal with the terms are announced before March 13 and the deal isnt made official on March 13 and the rams accept another offer, i would be sure the skins would appeal and the league would enforce the trade or award the skins some serious comp picks.

I dont want to get rid of orakpo either, especially if we still have to give up considerable draft picks.

When we FINALLY moved him and kerrigan around and switched them up in the last game against the eagles, the results were instantanous. Orakpo may be a one trick rush the passer poney, but you need elite pass rushers. We just have to use him better, move him around.
This,

Also, we tried the build the line first, back in 2000's, what happened was we became a team good enough to draft in the middle of the pack, but never got the Franchise QB to go with it. Now, I know we need a solid line, but a true Franchise QB (and we would hope that's who we would be getting by "sacrificing" those picks), makes up for ALOT of team deficiencies. Look at the contenders, while they all have weaknesses, not one of them is thinking that their qb is a weakness (well maybe Flacco, but that is more fan speak I think). Eventually, if we want to be a consistent competitive team, you HAVE to get your qb. JG knew that, even though he did it with 3 diff qbs, none of them were slouches, and he went for JC imo because he knew he had to get one, and that was the best he could reach for. Shanahan knows it, that is why he went for McNabb, the fact that McNabb was a bust was a different problem.

Separately,

One other thing this team needs is a playmaker. Someone who makes other teams react to us. RGIII is the only player that I see us getting who remotely fits that bill. The top CB would be nice, but not a game changer. VJax would fit it, but someone has to get him the ball, OL/LB's none that we would get appear to be that playmaker who makes the other team sweat. For once, in like a zillion years, I would like other teams to be talking about having to find a way to contain one of our players.

RGIII Please.

We need a stud QB...period. If MS says that guy is at #2, then I'm not sweating the picks we give up to get him. If it's someone else....fine.

This regime is proving to be quite competent and I trust they will make the right decision on who our QB of the future is.

(crossing fingers for RG3)

Well, they'd like to give Jammal Brown a chance to finally get healthy

Some think they may make another run, yet again, at Ryan Harris

If they don't trade their 1st and 2nd, they have been showing interest in several OTs (Jonathan Martin, Riley Rieff, Mike Adams) and have told all them they'd be interested in them as RTs

Pretty much, but it's a little different this time in that we have the cap space to off-set the loss of the 2nd and 3rd round pick. In previousl years, we'd blow our wad on 1 or 2 free agents AND have very few picks in the draft.

If we gave up this year's 2nd and 3rd, we could arguably get the same caliber of players in free agency. But I get your overall argument and don't necessarily disagree. Like I've said in other posts, I bet there's going to be a QB taken AFTER Luck and RGIII that goes on to have a very successful career for a team that didn't have to go to extremes to get him. Would be nice if we had the luxury of being that team, but we're desparate and have to grasp (to an extent).

You've created a false either/or here. By trading up to get RGIII we would be building through the draft while conserving cap space. Your either/or presumes that trading up is somehow anti-draft when in fact it is a different way of using the draft.

What's interesting though is that LG and C are the two non-premium positions on the line that you could slide Chester (or more controversially, Brown) to if you wanted to keep continuity while improving their performance.

One way or another, the Redskins are going to need talent upgrades on that right side of the line. But I don't think that necessarily means that Brown and Chester aren't long for this team. I could see Chester moving to left guard if the Redskins can't reach agreement with Lichtensteiger before he's an unrestricted FA next year, and think he'd be good there.

It also wouldn't shock me if the Redskins only drafted at the Center position this year, hoping to add depth there where they have failed to add depth after the first two years.

When Shanahan took over, he inherited an NFL line with one starter on it (Heyer, who is no longer here). Now we just have just one side of the line that is problematic. That, I suppose, is improvement.
