That would make no sense because we would have to give up the second overall pick we just traded up for to get him since he is a restricted free agent.

Lol and that ain't happening.. maybe trade rak for a WR or DB? Idk but I would miss him he's a big time player

The only way i'd be okay with parting ways with Rak is if we replaced him with Mario Williams. Not sure we'd be able to pull that off though.

My guess is the only thing they are trading Rak for is picks to recoup some of that lost in the RGIII trade. Just a guess though.

Does anyone know if it's possible to trade a player for a RFA? I'm not sure but I think that's doable.

Also, cliffhanger posts on a message board? As said on ESPN, come on man. Either keep it to yourself or just post the rumor.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

I'm just curious here but what kind of draft pick compensation do you think Orakpo would be worth? If i had to say i would think he would only fetch us maybe a late 1st or a second and in my opinion that wouldn't be enough to let him go. I'd be inclined to change my mind if there was another early pick next season though.

SmootSmack 03-12-2012 08:54 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Well, as you all recall I've been preparing you guys for a possible Orakpo departure since around November...that said though, the Redskins were actively shopping him in their attempt to secure a franchise QB, which they presumably have now.

So while it wouldn't surprise me if Rak is still on the market-not because they don't like him, but because he has value-I would be surprised if this rumored trade involved him.

If you could get his replacement in FA and then pick up a extra 1st rounder by trading him. Yeah.

BigHairedAristocrat 03-12-2012 09:04 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

What would we trade him FOR though? Picks? Players? Neither makes a ton of sense to me given orakpos youth, our cap space, and the free agent market

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

I think it would be smarter to keep Rak this year and shop him next year to recoup a first rounder. An improve offense may help the defense and could increase Orakpo's value. Besides, I would want to see another year of Kerrigan. I don't think he'll decline at all, but still.

I personally think this is as high as Rak's value is going to get. Buy low, sell high.

If you could pick up Mario Williams, and net a 1st rounder by trading Rak, would you do it? I would in fact go all Vinny Cerrato on this!!! :cool-smil

You don't think the defense would be better with an improved offense? Besides, I feel that MW is going to go to a 4-3 team.

Dont think we would get a first for Orakpo, that is just my guess but teams value draft picks so highly now.

With Hutchinson now available does anyone think we should take a serious look at him?
What I said was more of a joke about him being a pussy. However, I don't want a guy who has multiple PF/fines for fighting. One thing is being a bit of a character and being talented, but another is acting on stupidity and getting penalties that affect your team.
Ruhskins, I read somewhere that he calmed down quite a bit last season and avoided fights and stupid penalties. I don't know if that's true because I don't follow the Titans but, if it is and he's matured as a player, then what would you think about signing him?

Hell yes, we should look at Hutchinson! He can still play. I'd try to plug him in at LG for a couple of years.

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Trading Orakpo would be stupid. Sure, we have a comparable player with Kerrigan on the other side, but having both of them makes this defense a tough matchup.

As for Mario Williams vs. Rak, I'd rather have Rak...Mario has missed 14 games over the last 2 years due to injury and Orakpo is younger with no injury history and just as much impact.

If we coul replace orakpo with a free agent, why wouldn't our trade partner just take that free agent instead of trading is anything for orakpo?

I am sure (and I hope) that the team would do their due diligence and look into this if they were to sign him. I know there are head cases in the NFL, but when you've been flagged/penalized for fighting a few times, I see that as a problem. I know he's a good corner, but maybe there is a reason why the Titans are willing to let him walk.

Maybe they lack the money a large-market team like us have and can't afford to get into a bidding war over that position.

Salary cap? Rak cheaper? Various of reasons why.

Or why would we go with an older more expensive FA (such as Mario Williams)?

Could be Cooley.

I HATE the thought of losing him but his salary vs. output has been suppressed since Davis emerged, plus his injuries. May be the time to get optimal value for him.

Man, losing him and Landry would be a bittersweet offseason but the team is moving in the right direction.

I HIGHLY doubt Orakpo will be traded away. If it's D-Hall, we'll have a huge task at restocking the secondary at CB and safety. I'm not sure we'll empty out the defensive backfield like that after trading away so many high draft picks.

SmootSmack 03-12-2012 09:49 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

I would be very surprised if it's Orakpo. I think that ship sailed.

Jontrem 03-12-2012 09:53 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Or it could be Fred Davis? Cooley sadly has very little value to other teams in my opinion but Davis is younger healthier and faster and showed he has big play ability. I know Shannahan has said he likes him but that does not mean that much.

BigHairedAristocrat 03-12-2012 09:56 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Possibly a dlineman? It's definitely our deepest position group.

donofriose 03-12-2012 09:58 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Cooley will have a good year now that he actually has a quarterback. Not a pro bowl year but he will be respectable, both him and Fred Davis should do very well.

Monkeydad 03-12-2012 10:02 AM

Re: Redskins: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

^ I hope so, having BOTH of them on the field with any capable QB, let alone a stud like RG3 is a huge asset.
