re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Garcon's yards per target are:
2009 - 8.2 2010 - 7.2 2011 - 7.1 The 2009 figure was primarily a function of going deep about 8-10% more often than in the other years, i.e. being the third receiver. As the second receiver when Austin Collie was injured/ineffective, his effectiveness dropped by about a yard per target. Reggie Wayne in the same timeframe (for context): 2009 - 8.1 2010 - 7.7 2011 - 7.3 Same drop-off, but not as steep. |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
And here's Josh Morgan against Michael Crabtree:
Morgan: 2009 - 6.5 2010 - 8.7 2011 - 11.0 Now THAT is a positive trend. Crabtree: 2009 - 7.3 2010 - 7.3 2011 - 7.0 You could make the argument that Alex Smith's "development" was really just Josh Morgan's development. |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
I think both Morgan and Garcon have very nice upside. Garcon already showed how explosive he can be. Didnt he have a few 150 yd games last year? Or atleast close to that, with Painter lol.

re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
More context:
Jabar Gaffney: 2009 - 8.4 2010 - 7.8 2011 - 8.2 (career since 2006: 8.0) Anthony Armstrong: 2010 - 10.1 2011 - 3.8 (Career - 8.6) Santana Moss: 2009 - 7.5 2010 - 7.7 2011 - 6.1 (career: 7.9) Fred Davis: 2009 - 6.8 2010 - 10.4 2011 - 9.0 (career: 8.2) Donte Stallworth: 2011 - 8.2 (career - 7.8) It would make sense to conclude that the standard for a Kyle Shanahan receiver is > 8.0 YPT. |

If they were significantly higher wouldnt that suggest a different answer |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
i like the morgan signing more than the garcon one, unless the contract numbers are wrong.
Antonio Freeman, former Packers wide receiver, doesn't think the Redskins have a game changer with Garcon, Morgan, and possibly Royal. But that remains to be seen. Just because the Redskins didn't land Colston, Marshall, or V. Jackson, people like Freeman(some NFL analysts) are saying that the Redskins didn't upgrade- that they overpaid for a trio of #2 receivers. I don't think that's the case and we won't know until nearly halfway through the season.
It all comes down to QB play. Playmakers schmaymakers! |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Can someone clear this up for me? Did I just hear that the Skins are talking to Brandon Lloyd? LOL

He's a big dum-dum. Zero evidence that the teams with the most playmakers win the Super Bowl each year. If and when RGIII becomes an elite passer in the NFL, he will make playmakers out of whoever he's throwing to. See Mario Manningham and David Tyree. |

He's attractive because of his intimate knowledge of our bench. We don't have to train him how to find the gatorade. |

Lloyd wouldn't recognize this team anymore. Most of the guys from his time here are gone. And he is now a beast. |

With Royal leaving town without a deal and other visits scheduled if Shanny wants 3 WR's out of this class of free agents then he must move quickly. |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
I think it's time to remove royal from the thread title.

Steve Smith > Eddie Royal. Maybe a lot better.

Same can be said for any reciever that Peyton Manning threw to. |

Damn it. I wanted Royal.

You like Morgan at 6mil per season? I sure as hell don't. |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Royal
A) hasn't signed anywhere B) Is often injured C) Isn't needed since we have 2 WR's from FA and more solid ones on the roster D) still has us as his first choice E) isn't worth $6 million a year |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Who remembers when Reggie Wayne wasn't considered a number one? Not saying Garcon or Morgan are but sometimes players just thrive.
|
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Why would they cut Moss or Gaffney?
I know Moss contract isn't expensive and iirc Gaffney's isn't either. They're both proven, productive WRs (more productive then the WRs we brought in) and they know this offense. That knowledge is going to crucial to help the new WRs and beneficial for our rookie QB. The quality and depth the new WRs add would be lost if Moss and Gaffney aren't retained. I can't wait to watch training camp and read the reports about how good Moss and Gaffney look and hear about how the new WRs are pulling on their shorts to learn and gain insight into the offense. |

I so totally agree. Dont know why people are sleeping on that guy. Its like I said after watching the first preseason game this year of the giants with victor cruz. I knew he was going to be special, and called it of course!!!!!! Ill have to look back in my comments for that one. Mark my words, Smith is a good receiver, with a capability in the right system to be very VERY GOOD. |

Honestly how do we sign good free agents other than overpaying them? We are a terrible team with no QB on the roster currently... No one should WANT to come here. |
What do you like? Because it seems like it's nothing.
Thats true 69. When the hell do you ever like any signing, or anything at all at that? You think we should hire all young scabs for the league minimum? Players have to make money, there is a limited pool of good talent, and if the football minds have a feeling about a certain guy in their system, and think he will produce, then use the cap room. Its not like there are tons of options out there. |
You like Morgan at 6mil per season? I sure as hell don't.
At a cap number of about 3 I am more than good with it, and given what the other 9 or so WRs signed for in recent days, i think the 6 is reasonable too. |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Are we still "in talks" with Royal or is it take it or leave it at this point?

I think San Diego is going to get him. I saw something on Google sports earlier that said the Titans could be looking at Royal as well.

We are in that wait and see mode from what I'm reading between the lines. Royal wants to be a skin but more money and a different opportunity is coming his way from "San Diego which means a whales vagina" |

I think we end up with him. had his best season under Shanny and probably would be beyond buried on the depth chart in SD. Floyd/Meachem/Brown/Royal Garcon/Hank/Morgan/Royal Better fit here in my opinion. |
re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan
Now that VJAX is gone, San Diego could feature Royal more, plus he's used to playing in the division. Norv, Rivers, Gates, etc.
