Bush and Helu can draw straws to alternate games they will sit out due to injury. |

Yeah pretty much, i'm guessing there are plenty of potential third down backs in camp this year. |

You mean other than let him play 4 plays in preseason and then put him on IR for the year? |

Seems premature to talk shit about Helu.

I wouldn't call that talking shit, I would call that saying what happened. |
Well also the fact that Roy helu isn't Reggie bush lol.

As of a few weeks ago Helu wasn't even back to running yet. His health issues are a genuine concern.

Bernard Pollard? Now there is a hitter! The anti-DHall. Pollard will lay people out! I love that kind of DB, even though Goodell is trying to drive them to extinction in the NFL. BTW, there's no need to pick on Jim Zorn. He corrected that "maroon and black" gaffe - to "maroon, black, and yellow". |

When Vinny Cerrato was GM the month of March was exciting .... with Bruce Allen at GM the months of Dec / Jan will be exciting for years to come.

I wouldn't expect any big name guy. (Talib mostly) I thought this tweet was pretty funny and accurate.

I Agree with that. Finally making the right moves in march and April to win in December/January and maybe one day in February. Let Miami win right now, just like Tampa bay last year... How did it end up for Tampa bay? |

So if that is true then we could offer both Talib and the CB from Miami, Smith, a 1 yr huge signing bonus and both a 1 mill contract each, then next year give them a nice contract over a few yrs. We could get both maybe? Yes? No? |
Wouldn't you also be grooming Hall as your safety?
Hall's skill set measures out pretty strong at safety i.e. he'll immediately be an upgrade over Williams. Williams has minimal ball-hawk intuition, Hall is way above average in that regard. Hall can be tough as nails when he wants to be, and just as importantly has a high football IQ to sniff out plays. Obviously that's partly why he's a ball hawk, and the move to safety will maximize his skill set. It's the smart move for the Skins IMO. Irresponsible to count on a 2nd/3rd round draft pick to have the football IQ to play FS well. We can look at other FAs, but they're either gonna command more than Hall or be one year stop gaps. And, again our defense is unique. Hall knows it inside and out. |

According to the cap info here, Helu is set to make $673,000 this year. If we released him, we'd take a $235,000 hit, so we'd ultimately end up saving $438,000. That said, we have to think about who'd we replace him with. If we replaced him with a rookie, it would cost, at minimum, $405,000. Minimum for a 3 year veteran would be $630,000. Ultimately, cutting/replacing helu would result in minimal savings or actually be more expensive. The ideal solution would be for Helu to come back healthy and do what we drafted him to do. |

Actually this has been from a NFL stand point a boring FA Class; not just the Redskins. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
the signing bonus is spread out evenly over the years of the contract. incentives count either the year they are enacted or the year after (depending on the type) and roster bonuses count in full the year they're enacted.
so the current restructures probably involved unlikely to be earned incentives (which count against next year if reached). if moss caught 27 balls this year, the incentive could be to catch 28 next year and it'd be unlikely i believe. |

We could get both maybe? Yes? No?
All paid bonuses count against the cap. Signing bonuses are prorated over the life of the contract. Performance bonuses are paid either this year or next based on how easy they are to obtain. A bonus of 1 mil for playing a single game, the NFL will count that this year since its considered easily obtainable. A bonus of 1 mil for having 10 TD's for a RB or WR will count next year if they reach that incentive this year. Every bonus paid out counts against the cap somehow. |

Otherwise the radio was talking about how the team could restructure some other players to get more CAP space to pick up another player if need be. |

And hall got dragged by jake delhome, I will never forget that. He's a good tackler for a corner, but for a safety he's below average and running backs and tight ends would drag him. I think I would draft a safety who played safety in college and has experience playing safety and understands he can't let someone behind him. So agree to disagree. I don't see hall playing safety all that well, especially with how inconsistent he is and how often he gets beat by average receivers |

I am actually really intrigued with that combo. With the pistol read-option you could have a million combinations of routes and runs that would keep the defense on their heels. I like it. Edit:
Bush just signed with Detroit.
Crap, I jinxed it…. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I'm not worried about the RB position. MS is known for being able to pick up what he needs in a RB in the draft.
A RT and another WR and TE is what I'm concerned about. The Tackle from the Browns might fix one spot. If Davis stays healthy then we have another spot fixed plus I thought the team picked up a TE right after our season ended (maybe PS player). |

That was the most logical destination. I bet he'll do well there. RB is an issue for us though. The news on Helu continues to look bleak. Royster is nothing special. Luckily our HC has arguably the best eye for RB talent in the game. Outside of Bush I preferred we draft a guy. |

I traveled to Carolina for that game. Haven't had confidence in him as a tackler since. He had a great second half of the season, and I'm worried who we are going to get to replace him at CB, but to move him to safety would be a nightmare. Banks could do just as well in run support. |

If they dont think he will be 100% by the start of the regular season, we should cut him and use a late round pick on somene else. Still, if he's healthy, i want him on the team. Royster, dont really care about him. |

I agree, but I think his deal is a vet min for three years with the big money coming from his signing bonus which I don't think counts to the cap. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Free agent RT Tyler Polumbus will visit the Jaguars on Thursday.
The Jaguars are in dire need of a right tackle after Cameron Bradfield and Guy Whimper stunk up the joint at the position last season. However, Polumbus wasn't much better in Washington. Jacksonville needs to be aiming higher for a starter. Source: Mike Jones on Twitter |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
You are the second person today questioning whether signing bonuses count against the cap. Is there a new rule about signing bonuses that im missing?
