If the name must change, I would prefer that our traditions be preserved by simply referring to the team by our colors: The Washington Burgundy and Gold.

The name isn't changing anytime soon. Move along, nothing to see here.

So the ones that really did step up and speak up, I salute all of them.
Pretty much what we suspected. The reason very few Eagles spoke up and told the truth was because they were afraid that Kelly would want them axed next. So it's understandable that only a few, and mostly the more popular players, spoke up publicly. Locker room cancer? Nice try, Chip "A**hat" Kelly. |

I agree Chico - they should spend zero time on nonsense, too many "real" issues already that need attention.
Edit: and apparently not enough time to deal with the real issues or there wouldnt be so many. So again - one second spent even pondering an NFL teams name is too much time. |

With the shit our country is going through and about to go through, they should be spending 0% of their time on this. They have bigger fish to fry and anything short of dealing with the real issues is a slap in the face to the constituents. |

I really don't think it's that big a deal. They deal with hundreds of issues, big and small, all the time. This is like that dumb argument every time an athlete tweets something, or goes to a movie, or whatever. "Hey, why aren't you lifting weights?? Studying your playbook?!!" |

Honestly I was thinking about this earlier today as during my afternoon coffee break I like to search Google News for Redskins stories on my phone, which of course was FILLED with freaking stories about the 50 senators wanting the name change (way to focus on net neutrality guys), and then it hit me. Snyder actually might be the type of guy to take PETA's suggestion and change the teams mascot to a potato just to spite everyone. Nothing against dealing with small issues, just stupid ones. An athlete can do whatever he wants on his own time, and if a congressman wants to voice his opinion on the Redskins name on his own time than have at it. I just cannot fathom them discussing such a trivial thing on the job with all the crap going on in the world. Whatevs though. |

Definitely agree. Just vote these idiots out of office so we can get some, hopefully, sane congressmen/women in to do a better job on real issues. |

Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
I said this awhile back when the name change issue was a hot button topic. If the name changes, which I hope it doesn't, make it the Washington Pigskins. Very similar to Redskins, has a football meaning, and hopefully will only piss off the American Pig Farmers Union which doesn't have as big a lobbying presence in Congress.

Without a new team name, every fan and the public would continue to call the team Redskins, yet officially the team would not have a name so the media can refer to the team as Washington (which many already do). |

Honestly if they changed to pigskins I'd have to find a new team.

Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
Because many people find the team name offensive, The Washington Redskins have changed it. From now on, the team will be simply known as The Redskins.

Interesting you keep a ranking. I think you should have an active poll like college football, maybe update it monthly? |
Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
I always liked the Washington White Tips. (the shark)
Have a moderately looking aggressive shark logo on the helmet. Change the colors to red white and blue. (we are the nations capitol after all) Blue shark, white tips on the fins, red mouth..... Have fins run down the piping on the pants like the Seahawks. |
I could live with Washington Warriors.
i almost said warriors but then thought that in 20 years we would run into the same problems we are having now .... bc we would be stereotyping native americans as a violent culture. at least we are not the new orleans pelicans .. man that is a bad name and i never saw one pelican when i was down there. chickens running through the city, flying cockroaches the size of beer cans? yes ... pelicans? .. no. utah needs to give the name back. |

Since I don't think they can get away with changing the name but keeping the logo, I think you could make a picture of George Washington that looks pretty similar the current logo. Plus, like Ruhskins said, everyone is just going to refer to the team as the Redskins for quite some time no matter what the official name is.
