Just call them the Wolves and forget about AK State. All these Red-xxxx names are too forced to try to maintain a connection to Redskins. They need to keep the colors and get away from everything and anything name-wise that creates any association with the word Redskins.

Cyber squatting - I thought that wasnt allowed. I don’t know the legal definition though but it sounds like this is what he is doing. Perhaps that is why he doesn’t want any money for it?

He's trademark squatting. Cyber squatting is related to domain names which also gets you nowhere and is an act of bad faith unless you're going to actually be using it. So unless this guy is going to buy a NFL franchise he's not going to last long in court.

If memory serves he said as much this morning on the Junkies about having to have intent to use the trademark. He didn't sound interested in fighting any battles with the skins because he knows he wont win. I also think he mentioned he is a patent and trademark attorney.

What gives me hope is that people close to them might not be so adamantly supporting the Redwolves name if it had no chance.
I also think if it was Warriors they could have announce it right away, couldn't they have ?

Logo - not bad.... not great . I'd like one of the head but looking more ferocious. Could always go with R on the helmet and Red Wolves on the jersey

I hope it is Red Wolves and if not then Warriors would be my 2nd choice.

Hope Dan Snyder is considering it seeing as current players and former players and fans celebrity and regular are endorsing it

Not a fan of RedTails....but will still root for them no matter what nickname is chosen.

I was reading something that if Snyder wants one of those names he can get it without paying through the nose, but it may take time. He would have to challenge the guy's trademark and then the owner would have to prove he needs the trademark for commercial use. Not 100% sure on it as I am not an attorney. Article said something about the law being written this way for this reason. Did not say how long it could take.

How about the guy frees up The name and Snyder gives the money to a charity.. Trying to profit off the team that is trying to comply with the folks who find it offensive.. he is just as bad as any name maybe worse ..

Didn't want to start a new thread, but something I read on another board. A general sports board. A poster thinks changing the name and logo is not enough. He actually says they need a complete re-brand (name, logo, colors, etc) AND they need to abandon the history and start as a new franchise (think Ravens when they moved to Baltimore, but left the Browns history behind). My thought was if they did that, it would alienate a LARGE chunk of the current fanbase. I think most, even if they do not want the name changed, can live with it. Especially if they keep the colors and other things like the wordmark font, the "R" and just lose the Native American imagery. BUT, if they started over as the Washginton Whatevers with a brand new color scheme and when you walked into the Stadium there would be no mention of the Redskins, nothing to honor the SB teams, the NFL Championship teams, no retired #'s/ring of honor, etc, then they would see a lot of fans jump ship as this was no longer the team they grew up with and loved.

So, wondering your thoughts. How do you think you would react if they made it seem like a new franchise and ditched everything including the history? What about if they kept the history but did a complete overhaul new colors, fonts, name, logo, everything, but you could still walk into Fed Ex and see a banner for SB XVII, XXII, and XXVI?

Garbage. Stupid. This isn't moving the team to another city, it's changing the name. It doesn't diminish the accomplishments by the team or its' players. It's just acknowledging the people who have pressured Snyder enough to make the name change happen. And let's be real here. Snyder couldn't care less what the Redskins name haters think, he's changing the name because his business partners threatened to stop sharing the wealth with him. That's what motivates rich people.

I heard that on Chad Dukes today. He and I actually agreed on something which was it is best not to use a sports team to try to "honor" any one group of people.

On a personal aside I really enjoyed watching him stumble over what to call the Redskins. I believe he said I don't even know how to refer to them. Great radio there not even knowing how to refer to your subject.

Baltimore might have given up the trophies and the player stats but they kept the players and the history. The Baltimore Colts are well loved in town, Johnny U. has a statue. The SBs are recognized and Baltimore Colts are in the ring of honor at the stadium. The NFL can decide what it wants but the community doesn't have to abide by those rules. That being said I can't imagine they will have to ditch the history.

As it pertains to the Red Wolves trademark fight between Arkansas State and the USL, spoke to one of the parties involved and they haven’t heard from the #NFL, Dan Snyder or anyone else in the Washington franchise. Doesn’t mean they won’t engage later. But that’s where it is now.
