remember when we were cringing and waiting for Varly to get back?

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Man, we really need this win against Ottawa. We MUST get off this losing skid before we go into the playoffs.
On another note, I was in Dupont today for a meeting and I saw a good bit of Ottawa Senators walking down the sidewalk around noon. They were getting some lunch. It was pretty cool. |

You take a penalty in OT, its almost a 100% chance you will lose...Damnit

That goal looked really easy, too. Oh well, we still get another point. Man, we play a lot of overtime games. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
again.. and yes, way too many OT games
our GT'ing needs to step up if we plan on winning the cup.. you can't count on scoring 3-4+ a game to win it, I'll never complain when we do score that, but come on boston vs nj tonight was a good game |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
How horrible was our penalty kill tonight? What did we give up, like 3 pp goals on 4 pk's? That's atrocious. And this 3 game losing streak is happening at exactly the wrong time. We need to be playing at an acceptable level at least and it's not happening.
And we've been giving up a lot of iffy goals lately too, not really our fault but just bad bounces I guess. Still though if goaltending becomes an issue in the playoffs that doesn't bode well for us. Is it too early to get concerned or does this look like the beginning of a downhill slide for us that ends with another playoff exit? |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
It's time to see if Varly should play in the Playoffs. Better yet see if Neuvy is ready for the spotlight. Jose is picking the wrong time to regress.

varly hasn't exactly been the poster child

All the more reason to find out now if he can regain his early season form, rather then crossing our fingers during the playoffs. |

When we pulled Theo on Sunday, Varly didn't look very good at all. The good thing about Varly is that he'll make some amazing saves, the bad thing is that he lets in way too many easy goals. Bottom line - we stick with the same game plan for the playoffs. Theo is the starter, if he is having a bad game, Varly comes in. You always have to ride your hot goalie. Since we don't have a hot goalie right now, we need to ride our most experienced. |

When there are only 3 players on the ice, all goals look easy. |

I know not every team has amazing goaltending and even with Brodeaur you can't count on your team to not give up more then 3 goals in a given game but Varly's performance earlier in the season was to good to not at least attempt to recapture the magic when you have little to play for. |
