We already have the best defensive coordinator in the league, where's Gtripp at when i need a backer.
He went on to say he and Slowick are interested in installing either a 3-4 or 3-4 hybrid. He then went on to mention that both were either looking into or talking with Zimmer about being apart of their team. .
I think our players would fit better with a hybrid offense than a straight 3-4. Base 4-3 (AC, AH, Grif, Rak on DL w/ Rocky, Fletch and Blades with a 3-3-5 nickel (AH, Griffen and Jarmon on line and Rak, Fletcher and Rocky at LB). It would be a different way to rotate players and it would be difficult for offenses to prepare for.
Hey Shanny or Allen, I know your all over these boards now.... :)

Maybe look into Mike Leach as QB coach. Ya know him, he's the recently fired HC of Texas Tech. Set all kinds of records with his passing offenses. Might be nice to have on the staff as a QB coach who can add a little flavour to you WCO.

Most likely he'll get a HCing gig at some college wanting to get their program out there.
Maybe Leach would lock Snyder in a closet.

I hope that you guys are kidding about Leach. His offense is nothing more than another version of the Fun n gun. Will not work at this level.

I was joking. I only mentioned it cause usually someone, today it was me :) will throw a name of someone who was cut or fired as a "should we pick them up".

I'd rather Shanny picks up whoever he deems worthy to work with him or he gets a long with instead of hiring him and making him work with coach's others want him to work with.

Only if we can get him for the vets minimum.
I've got a friend that works with the league on the business side who is a HUGE Raiders fan and knows more about football than almost anyone else I know. I asked him for a scouting report on Shanahallen.

He e-mailed me this morning with the following:
I loved Bruce Allen..... did a great job with the draft as well as signing free agents. Also a big plus.... knows how to work the cap. From what I remember the Raiders always seemed to be on the brink of going over, but he would get them under while still signing quality free agents.

As for Shanahan he is obviously a great offensive mind. He likes a mobile qb and loves to have a several running backs at his disposal. The one concern I have is his defenses were pretty bad the last few years in Denver.....they tried a lot of different defensive coordinators and personal, but nothing seemed to work. Overall if you do hire him I think its going to be a good move. He's well respected, has the rings, and is a proven winner.

Nothing groundbreaking although I was pleasantly surprised to read his assessment of Allen being so positive. I don't think the defensive issues that Shanny had in Denver will necessarily replicate here because we've got a solid core on that side of the ball..
for what it's worth, my father-in-law worked in the NFL for 30 years... he knows bruce and synder (and pretty much anyone that's been in the NFL for years) and he thinks that the bruce allen hire is great... says he's a stand-up guy, very smart, very personable, an excellent GM -- the kind of guy you want to work for/with...

he's not too sure about shanahan being a good choice for us as a coach and thinks allen and shanny working together is "strange"... i'm trying to get him to see if he can find out some inside info from old sources... "i'm retired" is all i've got at this point...

I thought it a weird combo also but compared to who's possibly out there at GM and considering age Allen may be one of the best. Plus he has worked with HC's who run the WCO. So I actually can see why Shanny wanted to be paired up with Allen.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

LOL> I had this nice post set up with links and everything and my computer crashed. LOL.

So in a nutshell I was going to say...

M. Shanahan gets named HC, he brings in his son who already holds the title of OC/QB coach.

Kubiac might get fired after the season depending on how well he does but he has 4yrs now with the Texans. I wonder when his contract is up? Can he bail out of the contract and come to the Skins to work for Shanahan again?

Alex Gibbs was Shanahans OL coach. He's only on his 2nd yr there so I would guess he would have more then a 2yr contract. Could he bail and come to the Skins? or do we have to give him some fancy title?

Alex has a brother David Gibbs who coach's DB's. I'm sure if one comes the other most likely would also but I think his brother only has 1yr with the Texans. So this is another person we would have to give a fancy title to if pulled from the Texans to be with family.

Beyond that I don't know who else would be with us. I assume M.Shanahan would bring most of his old coaching crew if he could. Are any still available or are they tied up with other teams? Besides Slowick who we know is currently helping Shanahan put the staff together ....supposedly.

He's sitting in a HCing positon. Rumor was if he didn't win his last 2 games he was gone. Winning puts him at 8-8 I think. But his HCing stint has not been great. He's been .500 or below. Like Norv I wonder if he's a better OC then a HC? I wonder if he's had enough of the HCing situation and would he be willing to just walk away from it to take a lesser roll with us and Shanny, perhaps Senior OC? I don't know if a fancy name is required since he's HC already or if he can buy out his contract or if he can simply say he quits and come to us since he's good buddies with Shanny.

I can tell you it would be a huge coup and we basically would be robbing the Texans of their staff forcing them to get a new HC and staff. Atleast for the offensive side of the ball.

talked to my father-in-law about kubiak and kyle... he likes kubiak a lot and thinks he's a great OC, and that the GM in houston hasn't given him to personnel to succeed, especially in the running game with their interior three... he's not too high on kyle shanahan, though... Neither do I. I think if Kubiac joins the party here we will be fine but I do worry about K.Shanahan being OC. He has not shown a lot down in Houston. They do have a nice passing game which we lack but our running game was better then theirs, but thats not saying much. I think Kubiac was the master mind in Denver and I believe some people are meant to be OC's and not HC's.... ie; Norv. If Kubiac does not join the party then I hope Shanahan has someone up his sleeve who he can bring in as Asst. OC to assist his son with the offense.

Hmm, I don't know about that. The Texans were ranked 3rd in offense last year and are 5th this year with Shanahan as the primary play caller. 17th in scoring last year and 11th this year.

Their running game hasn't been very good, that's true but I wonder if that's personnel or scheme. Slaton was good last year but got a case of fumblitis this year before getting hurt and their depth was pretty pathetic.

I'm sure Mike will bring in someone with a lot of experience to support Kyle in his role.

If we want Kubiak then we will root for the Pats this Sunday. If the Texans win then Kubiak might keep his job, and if they lose then he likely won't.

you do realize its the fans' money that he's spending on coaches right...not to get into a long discussion but so long as the fans keep choking up outrageous prices for tickets, parking, concessions etc., Shanny will get 2.5 more a year than any coach in the history of the league...

That bugs me when small market teams like the saints and the colts do so well when we use the same formula we have been (grossly overpaying) and continue to suck dick

How do you think DS is paying for their salary? Raised seat costs, raised beer cost, raised food costs, etc. etc.

But I don't have a problem with the amount..... 50mill

In actuality they break it down a little and tell us it's some 8 mill over 5 yrs. Obviously 8x5= 40 so I would presume there is either one big signing bonus or he gets a bonus each year say 2 mill?

this also enables him to hire his coordinators for 5mill or slightly more a piece.

Funny maybe I'm the only one who thinks Colt might develope into the perfect QB so long as they stop trying to change his throwing motion. Just remember what happened to Favre. The Falcons thought he sucked also and didn't like his throwing motion. They traded him away and it's all history. :) and yes he is the interception king.

It's amazing what Snyder has done to the league. I mean not even 10 years ago Spurrier was given a 5 year $25 million contract and now that contract has doubled for Shannahan in terms of money. I mean I kind of understand given how much money guys like Holmgen and Parcells are getting but pretty soon the Haynesworth contract will be easily matched. Who knows, in our lifetime we could see a kicker getting the Haynesworth contract, but that could be blamed on inflation.
