Good read on why RG3 won't be our QB.. And yes, I read it this time :)

Considering Mike's evident inability to evaluate which QBs will "fit" his super-duper awesome system (see McNabb, Rex, Beck) since he returned to pro football this kind of article makes me cringe. We're going to pass up a potential mega-talent QB in the draft for a coach who likely won't be here more than two or three more years and struggles mightily to pick the right fit anyway...

Edit: this is where a real GM, as in one who actually makes personnel decisions, overides a coach like Mike Shanahan in the decision to not take the truly best QB available or just shows coach the door. Unfortunately, Snyder still hasn't gotten this FO thing right. We've got a GM that's really just the HC's toady and the coach can't get it right to begin with.

Great post Goat. The Redskins simply can't not afford to pick the best QB that fits their "system." They simply need to pick the best QB, period. I hope someone over there realizes this and they make the right decision. Pick the best QB.

For more than one reason too. Hopefully Bradford throws for 400 yards and 5 TDs to prove he's their franchise QB.

True, you made a valid point but why would you think that Shanny won't be here in within few years? What if the team actually got better next year or two years later, you would still not want to extend his contract? Beside, in my opinion, a good (or great) QB should be able to play in any kind of system, that also includes Shanny's system.

This is only 2nd year that he is supposedly to rebuild a team from scratch, the team that Vinny completely destroyed. I would prefer to give him 5 full years that he asked for before deciding anything.

I'm torn on this one...I really don't want a QB project. I want us to get a guy that hopefully can come in and contribute like Dalton has this past season. But I also would HATE to see freaking MS saying at the end of next season that the QB they picked could not fit into their system (a la McNabb).

Very true about the Rams. I mean their picking second overall I don't see them moving. Also as we all know Matt Barkley and Matt Kalil are linked together as a 'package' here is the most recent article regarding Kalil.

If if comes down to picks and talent, I could definitely see Cleveland trying to trade with St. Louis. Its just a matter of if we have something to offer St. Louis and what we're willing to give up.

Cleveland desperately needs a QB. And they've seen how a good QB has completely changed the Bengals. If they don't want to continue to be the bottom dwellers of the AFC North, they should be talking to the Rams or whoever picks after the Colts and trade up to get that franchise QB.

I'm curious as to why you consider Tannehill be a 'project' or a 'raw' QB?
Inexperience?

He'll have more snaps played then Cam Newton and Mark Sanchez both of whom were day 1 starters.

In fact Tanneyhill is more of a direct system fit for this team then any QB in the draft.

And to a certain extent every QB is a project.

Cam Newton's physical skills are off the charts though. Like I said if Tannehill is the guy they really want then he better be great because if Shanny passes on Matt Barkley and Robert Griffin III with both of them on the board it will take all my energy not to snipe Shanny COD style because I think they both will be special.

Also we all know that Dalton is nowhere near the athlete that Newton is, then again Dalton doesn't have Steve Smith either.

Until Smootsmack mentioned the Skins' interest in Tannehill and others here listed him as a top prospect, I hadn't looked at much film on him. After I read those things here, I did. And I liked him a lot.

I'd agree that he's a bit raw, but he's already further along in a number of ways than some of the other prospects. For example, in the offense he ran at TAMU he took snaps under center as well as from the shotgun and, to me, he looked good doing both. I like his footwork and his pocket awareness. RGIII, as good as he is, worked exclusively from the gun and has to learn to work from under center.

Speaking of RGIII, why isn't Tannehill as celebrated as RGIII as an athlete? Tannehill is just as effective as a runner as RGIII. Heck, Tannehill runs like a deer! He reminds me of Jake Locker when he runs - and I like Locker a lot!

Tannehill is simply excellent when rolling out. He shows good footwork and great athleticism and he is a very accurate passer whether he is rolling right or left. He also is an accurate passer when throwing out of the pocket or gun to the middle of the field.

On the other hand, for some reason, he throws a terrible out pattern. Also, even though TAMU didn't seem to throw deep much, the deep passes I saw him throw weren't very good. He has a strong arm so I assume he can improve on those throws.

Yes, he's going to have a steep learning curve as a pro and the team that picks him probably won't be able to throw him into the starting lineup right away but I think that will be the case for nearly all of the other QB prospects, including RGIII. That is, except for Luck and Barkley. Andrew Luck could start right away but he will probably be sitting behind Peyton Manning and Matt Barkley will probably take his lumps as a rookie starter.

Now, some team may pick RGIII high enough that they feel obligated to start him from Day 1 but, if that happens, I think RGIII will struggle as a rookie. Eventually, RGIII should be a very good pro QB. I think the same could be said for Tannehill but with just a bit less certainty.
