Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
I would hardly call that a meltdown. Those reporters are so damn annoying asking the same questions over and over again. I don't blame him for getting short with that crap. Jim Mora? Denny Green? Now those were meltdowns.
Rex Ryan loves the media, and he loves the attention. He relishes being in New York and rounding up the reporters to gather around him and listen to his bravado. And they do, and in large part because of them, he's a larger than life figure in and out of the NFL who commands more attention than he probably deserves. But you can't have it both ways. You can't insist that the media be at your beck and call when you want to remind people that you're the head coach of the New York Jets. But then get pissy when you're challenged |
^^ Reinforcing my personal belief that the man is a douche.
Yeah, yeah, he's a party guy. Guys think he's great. Blah blah blah. He's got no class. Never had it. Never will. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
Im sure its been said a thousand times, but I remember when we were all debating whether or not to give up everything to get Mark Sanchez . . . . . God I'm just really really glad we didn't do that . . . Really.

no doubt! That was the insider rumor for a while,so glad that didnt come true |

The Jets are going to the Super Bowl once they sign the great John Beck.

That was the insider rumor for a while,so glad that didnt come true
Wasn't just a rumor. I don't think Cerrato worked harder to get any move done than that. Thankfully, it didn't work out |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
Just so very, very glad Cerrato gone. Between his weaslely/greasy/slimy persona, his penchant for big splash talent acquisitions, and his undervaluing continuity and line-play, I miss nothing of his time here. I simply will never understand why he lasted as long as he did except possibly b/c he was excellent at manipulating blame.
He just struck me as the type who, after he shook your hand, you felt like you needed a shower. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
Rex Ryan's ass should be on the line for putting Sanchez in that situation. I wonder how the locker room will respond to him this season knowing that his ego is out of control. Just a complete shit show in New York.
In fact, the QB situations in Buffalo, New York, and Oakland is dire. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
Anyone got the over/under on Ryan lasting the year? Their bye is week 10. Anyone else thinking he doesn't makes it to that? I think the podium melt down is the beginning of the end. He is going to get hammered from now on.
In the locker? I can't imagine the Sanchez scenario played well. Further, lacking it himself, he never built a character team that would withstand internal pressures. When the going gets tough, the blame will be spread. I am betting that there is going to be a lot of finger pointing in that locker room - between coaches and players too. But then, I have never been a fan of the Ryans. Just in case anyone missed that. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
I could envision the Jets having the worst record in football this year. Which means, yeah, Rex is fired at the end of the season, if not before.
no doubt!

I can't stand that guy or his interceptions. It took patience, but everything worked out in the best-possible way for our QB position. |

Ya know, I kinda like that new head coach and think they will be better than some think....but yeah they still picking top 10. Monkey why dont you start the preseason predictions thread, team records and another one for individual awards? thanks bud! |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
Kolb, a tragic ending to the career that never got started.
Hate to see anyone in pain, but this guy made a ton of money for doing nothing. He screwed multiple teams over. Buy yourself a nice nurse, Kevin. |

Very true...but did he work as hard as he could after those paydays (especially in Arizona) or dd he really stink that bad? |

Kolb was a limited-experience QB that went to play behind one of the worst offensive lines in the past five years at Arizona. I think that combination made him pretty terrible at AZ. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
He did not impress me in Philly.
|
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
By all accounts I have ever seen, Kolb was a competitive good character guy who tried hard to live up to his hype/billing. He was just not a guy who was going to elevate any body with his play. On decent team, he was going to be a decent QB. On a sucky team, he was going to be a sucky QB.

The scouts just need to learn, Houston Cougar QBs don't make it...like USC QBs. Andre Ware David Klingler David Kolb Case Keenum next? |

NFL should suspend Looney for this cheap shot. Especially with player safety being such a concern. Was an obvious cheap shot and might have ended Kevin's season. |

I think shit like that (which is a obvious dive at the knee) should warrant 4-6 game suspensions. |

That hit was bull shit. And I hope that tuel kid turns out good, Buffalo deserves it especially those fans

Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)
Just watched that Looney hit. They should fine him as much as they can (within his pay grade).
Also speaking of bad knee injuries, Will Smith suffered a bad looking one yesterday, and the Saints went out and got a starter in Parys Haralson. Smith tore his acl I believe.

People talk about concussions and player safety. Here we see the issue of amputation:

This is a decent thing for the Rams to do. Still think charging full price for the 1st and 4th preseason games are a huge joke

Preseason is the best way to get the kids there for cheap and up close. then when the season starts, let the adults and meaningful game commence. IMO |

I'm looking forward to reading this story. As far as the drug allegations go, I wonder if widespread drug/ped abuse is possible in the NFL. It seems like we hear a lot about illegal substances being used but players not being caught. Also if the part about Urban Meyer is true, that will be disappointing. With all the stories that come out of the NCAA (most of them negative) you gotta wonder how much covering up goes on. It's pretty sad that football culture dictates programs put winning a championship and/or making money over everything else. |

Cowboys release Jared Green, I guess we won't be seeing Darell wearing cowboy gear.

Dude on ESPN just said Russell Wilson was the rookie of the year....
