20 million is the going rate for QB'S like Kirk though. I don't understand how fans don't get this yet.
I understand it quite well, but it's only so because idiot owners are overpaying and getting very little in return to show for it. How much are the Dolphins getting for the return on Tannehill? Osweiler? Flaaco? Cutler? Alex Smith? I can go down the list of QBs vastly overpaid and their teams aren't getting their money's worth, and their teams aren't even winning due to QB play. |

As others have said the going rate for average QB's like Osweiler is around 17 or 18 million. Are they overpaid? No, because that's what the market determined that they were worth. They may be in your eyes, and several others, but it's the market that determines their worth. Of the QB's that you list there aren't any better options out there, that's why they got their money. Also KC is probably better than the QB's you have listed, outside of Flacco. KC has earned the long term deal I think. He's proven to be a middle range starter, maybe slightly above that so he should be paid as such. We don't have any better options at this point. We aren't going anywhere with Colt McCoy under center. |
20 million is the going rate for QB'S like Kirk though. I don't understand how fans don't get this yet.
Kirk is winning games, and our team direction is going up with him at QB. I just don't see how you replace that with McCoy or an unknown. When you are 20 million above the cap, and have 2 WR out the door on contract years to add another 10 million to that. You pay Kirk who knows the offense and winning games. 11-5 in last 16 games, and you use 30 million to pay your own. Drafting defense player makers for the defense coming years. Like you have with the offense.
I think the mindset of fans that aren't pro KC is take the money you'd be paying him and go get a bunch of free agents, to fix the defense. Well we all know that way doesn't work. Like you said, the future play makers for the defense aren't on the team yet. Most of them are most likely playing college right now. |

I would argue that Kirk is playing better then every QB on that list since he became the starter. None of them have 2 4th Quarter comebacks this year. Kirk has 2, should of been 3 if we held on yesterday. |

I said it earlier in this thread. We are 20 million above the cap. That's with Kirk contract this year. We pay him 19 mil or 20 next yr? We are still 20+ mil above the cap and that's before Garcon and Djax contracts are removed. Scot isn't going to spend a bunch of money on the defense. He's going to use that money to pay our own. I personally see Kirk as our own. He's 11-5 in his last 16 games. We will continue to draft BPA and build this team. We are 50/50 right now. We are always going to be 1-2 plays from being 10-6 or 7-9 . Just a few more years. We will be there. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Glad we still have at least 9 more games to figure it out. As of now, I don't see any way he isn't on the team next year, even if gets franchised again.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Brock Osweiler and Ryan Fitzpatrick performances not helping Cousins value. that's a good thing. Osweiler played like garbage last night

Like you have with the offense.
I completely agree. Kirk, the player, is the right man for us at QB. Also, don't underestimate the value of Kirk, the man, to this team. His leadership on and off the field is helping to build this team. His public image is good for the franchise. This final point is key: Kirk has the motivation and character to continue to improve and give his all after he is paid the big bucks. The franchise can trust that he won't be spoiled by money and fame and lose his focus on doing the best job he can on the field. He's the whole package. Yes, pay our own foundation players and build the defense, primarily through the draft. This was perfectly illustrated in our loss to the Lions. Kirk led us all the way back to take the lead with under 1 minute left but the D just didn't have the horses to hold it. |
Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Simple formula
Sign all important qb Keep staff together Pay our own Draft well Stay the course! Edit: this formula has us winning more than losing lately and we just started. You cannot go from a dumpster fire to perfect. You need to "improve" first. We are seeing that improvement. Just remember what we were. If you don't see improvement than you have a very short memory. HTTR! |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
I really really really dont want to play the "Find a QB Game" for a long ass time.
Cousins looks good, good enough anyways, at least better than average and in this league thats good enough. We need to spend our draft picks on creating a real pass rush and a few other shiney things. Please Kirky, stay cool and stay the course...... |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
I agree, I cannot go back to the endless search for a Franchise QB. I think Cousins is pretty damn good. Give him above average QB money and improve the defense.

Kirk is a guy that will get better with years also, the older he gets the better he will be. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
The knock some are giving Kirk is the missing long ball throws..but his stats are really good. D jax seems to have some attitude and my guess is they are not throwing the ball deep to him as often as he wants. Is that because of Kirk or the scheme. A lot of deep balls that are completed in this league look like they could be intercepted ..how many times have we been torched and our DB was all over the WR..Norman got called for PI when he got hurt.it looked like solid coverage to me. maybe its time to go deep and take the lid off the D..you have two chances with that ..a complete pass or PI ..well i guess you can have it intercepted ..but unless they slide the DB over and they Double team the WR you should have a shot at a completion/penalty. I just wonder how much freedom cousins has at changing the play to a long pass.

I don't want to derail this thread from Cousins, but it has more to do with not throwing Jackson the deep ball, IMO. They need to find more creative ways (ie, screens, reverses, placing him in the backfield in hopes of getting a poor matchup on a 'backer or safety, or any, other imaginative ways) to get Jackson the ball. He still has the attributes and speed to be a game breaker. Again, get creative, in regards to Jackson. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Jackson to me, just seems like a guy who is going to whine no matter who is throwing him the ball. A poor man's T.O., if you will.
But i'm with you - let's not get the thread away from Cousins... |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Since being named starter, Cousins’ yards per attempt is 7.63, which is 7th in the NFL That's .11 behind Drew Brees (7.74), and better then noted gunslingers Jay Cutler (7.62) and Rivers (7.52)."

what i would give to have hoyer at lqb and keenum at rqb. 2 deadly arms on the field at the same time. defenses wouldn't know what to do. |

You're never going to let me live that down :) I was only quoting the Rams' official twitter that had Kenny Britt or whoever saying that Keenum was a baller. And I liked Case Keenum, but he has thrown 7 interceptions in the last 2 games, it might be Goff time even though he is going to suck harder.... |

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Kirk Cousins has led the team on game-winning 4th quarter drives two weeks in a row. But no! Last week the defense couldn't hold with less than a minute on the clock. This week, the FG Kicker missed a chip shot. So, as any mental midget can see, Kirk is obviously the problem.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Cousins definitely moved the needle towards a big fat long term contract today. I thought he was mostly excellent. If our kicker didn't ruin it, it would have been a nice road win after a loss. Freaking Hopkins.

When I was expressing my concerns about Kirk It was like four games ago, obviously Kirk has been on the upswing since then.I have not been commenting much since then because there was still a lot of football left to play and there still is a lot of football left to play.If The season ended today of course you would say re-sign Kirk, he has gotten over his early-season struggles. Now let's hope he continues that consistency and gets us into the playoffs. I'm sure that's what all skins fans want |

Jimmy just said he thinks Kirk is a good QB. Terry was the one really loving kirk. I think yesterday helped his bid a lot. He almost had 500 yards, that's a drew brees like game. |
