Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Perhaps the coaches are confident in Patterson to step up? JDM was a very productive player here, but you do draft and sign these guys for a reason right? I guess I'm just not too worked up over this.
I think you may have missed my point, which was probably my fault as I seem to be bordering on ranting in some of posts recently. If they didn't think he was worth it, thats fine. My point was more about the reputation the FO has and the need to improve it. They could have just said "Thanks for you effort JDM, but we cant afford what you are going to command. We wish you the best" but they didn't. They expected him or his agent to come back and give them the choice of whether to match the offer. Their apparently high handed approach risked pissing off players and agents which, with the teams current reputation, they cannot afford.
That's your version of what happened. My version: Buffalo offered JDM twice what he is worth and they knew no one else was going to offer that. Done Deal. I doubt there is a bunch of players and agents out there, talking about how "high handed" the Washington organization is, and vowing to never work with them again due to the way they handled the Mckissic situation. |
YES! You can just put Apke back there to blow coverages. He is a 2 mill per type of player. He blows coverages and then whines about it.
McCain >> Apke at safety it's not even close |

McCain played better in the second half of the season once they moved Landon to be a hybrid LB. Safety FA market is expensive for the top tier guys, and I think the only one left is the Honey Badger. And he's going to cost a lot of money. For a lot of the holes this team has, better QB play should be able to compensate for them. And we very likely just had a massive improvement with Wentz. We also have the draft, and for as much people criticize this FO, they need to start hitting on draft picks. |

I think JD got the money and the team he was looking for, and if the money was going to be similar here, he'd rather go play for a contender. I don't blame him. |

We bitch about Scherf chasing the money and then we bitch when a guy chases wins, good grief Charlie Brown. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I don't think anyone was bitching about those things. I think the complaint regarding Scherrf (and it is not just him as many players do it) is the "I want to play here for the rest of my career" bullshit which is meant to get the fans on their side when the clear intention is to go for the biggest contract from whichever team will pay it. If he wants to chase the money good luck to him. I don't think anybody was bitching about JDM either, if he wants to go play for Buffalo good luck to him, I hope he wins a SB with them and few people, here at least, are bitching about the decision not to resign him. My only concern was how our FO s operating. I am not a fan of theirs for multiple reasons.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I dont get upset or take personal players or coaches doing player or coach talk.
If a player is still under contract with a team, of course they are going to say "I want to be here". if they say anything to the contrary now they are being a distraction and a negative. If Scherff had said last offseason "I dont want to be here, I dont like this team but Im under the tag for another year so I will show up when my contract says I have to show up." ... we would blast him. |

Curious, unable to trade and no attempt to resign Settle

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Another hole to fill. Are they reacting or was this the plan I wonder. If so , why let Settle go?
|
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
If you are clearing for an offer to Wagner…ok i get it. But you need to be explaining why settle and matty I departing
|
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
John Keim
@john_keim · 1m Cutting Ioannidis saves $6.9 million vs. the cap. They did make a last-second mild push to keep Tim Settle, but weren't close to Buffalo's offer... I didn't think the Buffalo offer was that big |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
matty I has 1 year left, 8.3 cap hit, 1.5 dead,
6.8 in cap savings w release https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-commanders/matthew-ioannidis-19106/ ---------------- Currently on roster: 2 IDL - Allen and Payne 5 End/Edge - Chase, Sweat, SmithWilliams, Toothill and Toney ------------- Perhaps we extend Payne, add a decent depth IDL or were going 3-4 lol Settle move seems strange now. All this roster depletion .... for Carson Wentz. fucker better be worth it |
2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
So our giant off-season with so much potential has turned into losing Scherrff, McKissic, Settle, Matty I, and Landon Collins. We kept Apke, and McCain , Larsen and signed Carson Wentz. Ouch. Im not seeing improvement. Wentz better be worth it, and we better hit on every one of our what 5 draft picks. Im hoping there is some other big name signing coming or a handful of solid ass depth guys or what did we just do?
It appears to me that this regime is into giving players away, and over paying for new ones that may not be as valuable as ones we are giving away. In other words nothing has changed. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Three picks in the first 5 rounds, cannot fill all the holes
|
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Man, all of a sudden, we went from a young, deep DL to a thin DL in need of help. Geez. That they couldn't find a way to keep Settle and/or restructure Matt I's contract is troublesome. Unless those guys wanted to leave (which is possible), I'd like to think that some creative cap manager could do that. Matt I will get snapped up in a heartbeat.
|
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Could be looking at creating cap room for someone with that savings.
Matty I had a nice couple seasons in 2018 and 2019, but he missed 13 games in 2020, and had 2.5 sacks in 16 games last year. They can bring in that kind of depth/production for cheaper either in free agency or the draft. |

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
According to Keim they weren't willing to match Buffalos offer, doesn't mean Settle would have accepted of course, but still
|
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Washington is cutting defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis, a source confirms. A stunner.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Sure is a lot of overreaction after what amounts to about 48.5 hours of free agency.
100
and JD is very replaceable. I enjoyed him he made some big plays for us but you can find production in someone else, he was no Clinton Portis
I wouldn’t call him very replaceable. He was one of our top three offensive weapons. Dude was clutch as hell. Im disappointed as hell. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Why does it always seem like we are never able to trade good(not great) players while other teams seem to have no trouble. Probably just my imagination but I cannot remember the last time we were able to get good value in exchange for a player

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Ben Standig
@BenStandig · 6m Landon Collins will be a post-June 1 cut, source confirms. ( @MikeGarafolo 1st). That increases the savings to $11.9 million with only $3.8 million left on the cap. But it also means his contract remains on the books until then. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Adam Schefter
@AdamSchefter Commanders have released offensive lineman Ereck Flowers, per his agent @DrewJRosenhaus . He now will be a free agent |

Fify. As I and others have said , maybe we are making room for someone very impactful. All we can do is comment on the here and now, and pray we are signing Mr Impactful to fill the void of our losses though. [emoji2371] |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
At this pace, our roster will only have 37 people on it week 1.
|

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I am genuinely stunned by the flowers cut, thought they would extend him
