Yeah, this team hasn't played consistent enough for me to lock up anything. I don't know what I'm going to get from week to week, except for inconsistency...

They have the talent to turn a corner and run off 5 of 7. Not that they will, but they definitely can with this schedule.

If Smith stays upright do you think he will be considered for comeback player? Right now I think it is Big Ben, but if Alex starts the rest of season he has to be considered. Right?

Smith was in the running from the moment he stepped on the field, and with him playing at such a high level right now I think he's the clear choice

If he starts the rest of the season he has it nailed on. Too much of a story for anyone else to get it. Ben had a pretty generic injury, Alex nearly lost his leg. No contest!

Pittsburgh has to have the easiest schedule this year, so I'm not convinced they are what their record is, but time will tell.

So far six of their wins came against the Bengals, Giants, Broncos, Cowboys, Eagles, Texans...all of whom have 3 or less wins through 10 weeks.

A Smith is too good of a story.

57 of Alex Smith's 71 completions have come 10 yards or under...

36 of those 57 completions are in the middle of the field (Checkdowns)

He's played fine and I love the dude's will and guts but there is no way you don't draft a QB in the top 10 this yr.

Build up the team around him and it's a good formula for a few years. Rookie, even 1st Round QBs are a crapshoot as we know well. Remember how RG3 was going to save us? Haskins crashed and burned even faster.

Alex can still play and honestly, he's earned the shot to come back.



So how would you feel with Alex at QB and grab someone like Ja'Marr Chase to throw to beside McLaurin?

Or Micah Parsons at LB, a position we desperately need help?

Or finally a real left tackle to replace Trent?


A team with more talent led by Alex Smith vs. a team with the current talent led by a rookie QB not named Trevor Lawrence...which sounds better? I actually think Option 1.

If he wasn't coming off the 2nd most gruesome injury ever for a QB I would say it's a good option but I don't see him lasting a full season.

This myth keeps surfacing.

He's no more susceptible to injury than anyone else at this point. He's likely less mobile due to running speed but he was a great runner before, so he's still probably a better runner than a few statue QBs in the NFL.



This is coming from a person who has a body full of metal parts himself.

Well, I think that is by design. They have gravitated more towards a "West Coast" style of offense given the lack of overall talent on that side of the ball. That's why you see more of a horizontal type of passing game - basically an extension of the running game. It can be effective, but not as explosive.

I think the offense Turner would like to run requires a stronger inside running game, a quality pass catching tight end, and at least two fast receivers that can stretch the field. Not to mention a quality QB.

I think we have the quality QB now, and at least one quality receiver in McLaurin (Sims might be the other guy), but the running game (o-line), and the TE are weak points.

But yeah, they likely draft a QB next year. Maybe not in the first round, but somewhere...

If we have a top 5 pick we WILL pick a QB. No question.

It’s not like we have a franchise QB and the hype for Lawrence, Fields, Lance or Wilson will reach a crescendo before the draft. Could have avoided all this by drafting Tua when we had the chance. Hopefully lesson learned, in the NFL you’re not going anyplace without the man at QB. And he is not on the roster (or IR) at this point.
