Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
I think the biggest positive that we can take out of the first 3 weeks is that Jim Zorn is without a doubt a NFL caliber Head Coach.
The 2nd biggest is that JC is making the jump from average to above average qb. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
jc is a nfl caliber qb....any questions?

Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
that's why I said "IF" fellas.. IF we can beat dallas and philly in their house ( assuming we can beat them at OUR house, because we have been playing good at home.) Then yeah, at minimum we will go deep into the playoffs, but im looking for the superbowl at that point..
PS. LaRon Landrys brother is hurt real bad, everyone pary for LaRon brother Dawan Landry.. everyone pray! |

Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
Just got back from the game.
Our offense looked good for several drives and JC did too, but other times it wasn't so great. D definitely stepped up towards the end but run D looked bad. Brooks looked a hell of a lot better. Finally, the FedEX wasn't full! I don't get it, we need as much help as we can get, I hope we keep on winning so people show up to the games. A good amount of Cards fans too, which was kinda upsetting. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
I like the fact that Zorn beat Ken Wisenhunt (sp) and Co.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
I didn't think our offense was anything special today. It was average. The defesne bends but doesn't break. I thought Devin Thomas made some strides today.

What?? are you kidding me? we are just now getting gelled with this offense and its showing by the points we are putting up. You have to be a bit slow to say that what is happening with us isnt anything special. We havent had an offense like this in a while and it's a perfect combo with our running game. Thank god everyone is healthy , finally. We are going to be veryyyy hard to beat if we keep playing like we have been. CAmpbell will only be even better next year and the year after that because he will actually be comfy in this system and hopefully he wont have to change anymore anytime soon. The redskins have great offensive weapon sand im glad we are finally getting to use them Imagine if we had Malcolm kelly out there in the redzone?? Jim Zorn will get better too, but I think we are in VERY good shape everyone, and im not the type of person who says this every year, but I see something special in this team. skins baby |

Our running game hasn't been great yet all year. I like the rushing TDs, but yards have been pretty hard to come by. And today we played a team that finished DEAD LAST in total D last season. We're going to "very hard to beat?" We're actually pretty lucky we're not 1-2 or even 0-3. Two very narrow home wins and a ugly road division loss. Our offense had 105 yards at halftime today outside of the 1st drive we didn't have a 1st down the rest of the half. And this is playing at home with no crowd noise in our ears. I liked some of the execution in the second half, and I'm happy with the way we're progressing, but if you think for one minute we can walk into Philly or Dallas the next few weeks and win playing this way... well, then you my friend are the on who is a little slow. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
offense looks good... i'm assuming the bad run D today was due to fear of the card's WRs, and it was good enough.
i expected to win this game, and i never felt like we wouldn't, so that's a sign that the team's on the right track. despite the penalties, i think devin thomas really made strides. even though his stats don't show it (And the penalties) i saw him a lot today, and he looked like he might be able to play NFL ball. brooks had an awful punt to start the game, but after that he was good, so i'm not sweating that either. however, ARE looked terrible AGAIN. he had a HUGE gaping hole and instead of plowing ahead, he started dancing again - have thrash or betts do it PLEASE, ARE sucks back there. torrence had some good plays, doughty got beat :/ |

??? Were you watching the same game? Our offense has regularly struggled to get over 20 points, to have a drive in the 4th quarter that held a lead, to make field stretching plays, and to surprise the opposing defense. Today, we did all of that. Were you expecting that fake handoff and pass for first down. Were you expecting the pass to Yoder. Our offense looked special, because of all the things it wasn't. It didn't give up, it didn't turn off and not turn back on. etc. |

After the 1st drive the giants did'nt do shit, And the refs helped them get that with the bogus PI , Bad as we played we could've pulled it out. We should have one this one by at least 14 if Heyer did'nt want to fight instead of block. Our D has given up no points in the 4th, Which means we're finishing what we start. This team is just getting started. D. Thomas is gonna cause nightmares and Kelly can do the same what a mix of recievers and the tight ends, And the one thing this line has been able to do in recent years is run block. What a half empty view you have, Next wk we beat dallas then you can jump on. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
What impresses me the most right now is that we're winning the games we should win. Sounds simple but it was something we really haven't done in a few years. Now, if we can win 1 of the next 2 games, which realistically should both be losses, we'll be on a completely new level.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
I like Zorn's playcalling at the end of the last two games. He's aggressively called pass plays on third/fourth down to keep the ball on offense to run the clock out. It increases the confidence in both the offense and Campbell, in particular.
Give props to the defense, especially the secondary. Save for that Fitz TD, the corners played a lot of man defense against those Cardinal weapons on the outside. I saw them playing the receivers close to the line, showing a lot of confidence in the safety help. And that Torrance tip to Carlos was actually PI against Breaston, who mauled the CB from behind (watch Breaston's hand come across Leigh's facemask when the ball is underthrown). |

I don't know we seemed to matchup with dallas very well last year and both teams did'nt change much, But I think we changed more for the better. With Zorn they can't just come after us, Cause eventually he'll make them pay. Springs will do a fair job on t.o. So if we can protect JC we can win!!!!!!!!! |

You get it straight- We looked good against NO, but settling for FG's won't win you games. Sure we're adjusting to the scheme. But our offense looked stagnant for a large part of the first half. I love when people name drop our players to me on this site. Like I need a lesson in our personnel. D. Thomas is gonna do this, Kelly is gonna do that, ra ra ra. I learned to stop getting excited when the Redskins draft receivers. Aside from Cooley our last several attempts at pass catchers in the draft have been lousy. I'm in "show me" mode in that department. Learning the West Coast always takes time. I agree we have great potential, but we're not there yet. I guarantee if we play the caliber of ball game next week that we did today, we will get beaten by Dallas. Same goes for week 5 in Philly. Our run D is poor and I'm worried about the consistent inconsistency of the offense. Although I'm very happy with the tempo we showed in the 2nd half. |

Personnel-wise yes, but we apparently aren't a blitzing defense anymore under Blache, we've got a new HC and a totally different offense. Crowd noise doesn't matter nearly as much when you're running between the tackles 35 times a game a la Joe Gibbs. |

It will take a heroic defensive effort the next two weeks to give JC and the offense a chance to win the game. Specifically, yes our run defense has to improve markedly, but so does our pass rush (still). Romo and Dono will destroy any defense that can't put serious pressure on them. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
I think we wont have much trouble moving the ball on dallas next week but we have to have the offense on the field and not the defense. We are getting good turnovers this season and that may be the difference in the dallas game.

Good point. Plus it's nice to be 2-1 while the offense is still a work in progress. |

True but we seemed to adjust to that to, they started blitzing rocky late and that sealed the game it's work in progress. Besides we played to really good offensive teams. Remember everyone picked us to lose both games. |

I certainly hope so. I love my Redskins to death, but I when I talk X's and O's I try to be objective. It's tough, but there are some folks around here who are homers to the point where it severely clouds their football judgement. |

We are getting there. And I gotta say fitzgerald and boldin scare me more than just t.o. I mean what about our offense against their crappy secondary, C'mon people it's time to believe. |

I think the Skins and JC are better than what you're giving them credit for right now. Are they ready to compete with the heavyweights of the conference yet? I'm not sure... but the next 2 weeks will tell us a lot. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
I loved watching this game without that sinking feeling I tend to get going into the 4th quarter. We're winning but not because we're particularly more lucky than our opponent. Zorn and Blache seem to play with a plan and also adjust based on what's given to them. And here it comes...
For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my football team. |
Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
We are a good team that has played good teams to this point. Result 2-1. We are about to play two really good teams, how we play will determine what kind of team we are. I hope we come out as a "really good" team.

Re: Redskins vs. Cardinals game thread
What I like about yesterday is that our O started out very strong and then went limp in the 2nd qtr. Then we came back out and our O got better as the 2nd half went on just like in the NO game. It seems that we are making good adjustments durn the half time and coming out and winning games.
