Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
I do have to admit i changed my stance on one thing though: Blowing out teams that you are suppose to dominate.
The redskins have been playing in squeakers all year and could not pull away from the Lions or Cleveland and etc. I have to admit that I was wrong in saying that I'll take the W. IT shows us that the redskins weren't capable of scoring points, putting teams away, so that everything would be a close game. And you can't be guaranteed that it will go your way if you let teams stick around. |
I live close to Pittsburgh & i am anti- Steelers. I would hate to see that cry baby Cowher in Washington....................
By your own admission, you are anti-Steelers... Cowher never puts up with the me-first attitude that haunts this team. I love Santana Moss. his punt return sparkedthe team to rally, but then his moronic TD celebration killed any momentum the team had. Cowher would have benched Moss at that point... |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
we need to hold....PORTIS, MOSS, COOLEY on offense. besides that, i dont care what we do.
So is Cowher going to make Cooley, Sellers and CP hold on to the ball? Some of our best guys have let us down the last few weeks.
Fumbles happen. It's how a team responds to fumbles and interceptions that matter. The Skins caved after Cooley's fumble. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
Sellers is the big let down to down and Cooley for that matter. Sellers wasn't even holding on to that ball tightly to extend it like that. That was 3 points right there which would have continued the momentum or hell, maybe a 4th and goal try.
Cowher and his 4 inch thick chin would end all that bullshit...
Cowher would never come to Wash. Cowher operates on the idea that the head coach runs the team. The Redskins dont operate that way. The players answer to the owner not the head coach and until that changes it will be the same old thing we have seen for the last 10+ years. |

Cowboys have the same issues...not like thats supposed to make anybody feel better. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
he cannot call plays. he can't now; he wont be able to next year. enough is enough. no one seems to recall that he was QB coach in seattle for 10 YEARS without ever getting a promotion. What does that tell you? Tells me that those who know him best (Holmgren) know he is coordinator material, let alone head coach material.

Hate to say it fellas, but these guys are becoming a mirror image of the Lions. Another team that has a business guy at the helm by the way. This game was a sick joke of unbelievable proportions. 7-9 here we come!!!!!!! |

Exactly. People keep talking about Cowher but why in the hell would he come here and work for an owner like Snyder? I doubt it's going to happen. |

I like it. It seems like everyone on this board is ready to jump ship. I'll be watching this season out, next season, and probably until the NFL does not exist. |

Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
Why does this team always start slow? Is it the players? It can't be the coach, because this has been a problem for more than a decade...Gibbs, Norv, Zorn, Spurrier...None of them could ever motivate a team that has enought talent to win a playoff game... I'm starting to believe that the native americans who put a curse on this team have been very effective...
A lot of it's the home field advantage that they have, which explains the Ravens, Seahawks, and Bengals slow starts.
We always seem to overcome those starts though and play just fine. Problem comes when we earn a touchdown, or at least a short shot at a touchdown, and it's taken away from us because the zebras don't know what "forward progress" is. Passing offense, Campbell especially, but the protection as well was pretty good today. Run blocking was not great, and I'm afraid that's how it is going to be the rest of the year. Defense has no excuse though for giving up 17 points in the first quarter AND not getting them off the field in the second half. Blache needs to go. He's awful. If they have to clean house on the coaching staff, then they have to do what they have to do. But until someone else is drawing up the defensive gameplan, I think we will never produce a better defense than this one. I would actually clean all the defensive coaches, just because I think they have such a jaded idea of what the problems are, that any solutions that these guys come up with are only going to hurt us in the future. Campbell's impressive. He's just not getting any help from people who aren't Mike Sellers. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
Well Gibbs Coached this team for 4 years in his Second Stint and he didn't go to the superbowl. Do you know how many coaches accomplished that? Don't make excuses for Joe Gibbs. He had 4 years and he wasn't able to do what others were able to do.
The team has multiple problems. To blame it on only Jim Zorn or Campbell is unfair. Each year you have people that do well and exceed expectiations. HELL! Spurrier got 2 years and his game plans and techniques were way worse than this.
THe organization itself is doomed unless changes are made at the top down. Snyder isn't selling the team anytime soon so the only thing that will change is the HC and QB. Cerrato needs to take a hike and they obviously need better scouts. Gibbs should have never been rehired in hindsight, his second tenure took away from the hiring of a decent HC that could have been around for the long haul and restored the franchise with a long term plan. Gibbs calling it quits with one year left obviously took Snyder by surprise so we got who we have now as a result of desperation. No way Cowher comes to Washington now as the franchise is in shambles and is fast becoming a joke almost as bad as the Lions. Unless the Danny relinquishes his power over the day to day operations over the team, the Skins will always be average to mediocre. 7-9 here we come. Makes me miss the early Norv years to be honest!!!!!! |

No I am a Skins fan all the way!!! I root for them and not jumping ship. Why should I? Thing is this team has been in a constant tailspin since they canned Marty. It is maddening how a team that is as talented as ours is playing so poorly. That in itself is a sick joke. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
some bs in unnecessarily large type.
Well, we're not playing "poorly". We're getting beaten by teams we should beat because we're turning the ball over in high leverage situations, and our defensive scheme sucks. That's really the only differences between us and the elite teams...because those are the only things that are different from the beginning of the year.

How bout a Frerrote head butt? Gibbs at least restored respectability. Unfotunately it seems at this point that Zorn has destroyed that... Cowher will take this job, becaue money talks. Snyder wanted Cowher last year. Now, he will get him. Cowher will get total control... |
Maybe I'm just really optimistic during the week, but I really expected us to come out and win this.
All I'm preparing for now is a WHOLE lot locker room and radio show drama this week - it's going to make last week look downright friendly.
Most people did, including me. I thought the D could win this one with giving us 2-3 turnovers and some shorter fields. Guess I was wrong huh? The players are quitting on Zorn, which is a shame. Zorn needs to fiddle with his scheme in the offseason, that is if Snyder keeps him as HC. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals game thread
The first three series of this game started with extremely vanilla, first down runs by Clinton Portis. (Amazingly, the Bengals were not taken by surprise). In fact, it was so ridiculous, that I was able to predict every play in those first three series with the exception of the end around. Here’s my point … If I can predict Zorn’s play calls, I’m sure coaches around the NFL can … even the Bengals.
We are pretty good at protecting the ball … THREE DOWNS AT A TIME. It’s not hard to protect it if you don’t do anything with it. I know that it’s legal to throw on first down; I see other teams do it fairly effectively. I’m also sure that it’s legal to throw unrestricted distances … Who knows, it might even generate some intensity and excitement on the field. Would someone please remind Mr. (barely worthy to call coach) Zorn that he used to be a quarterback who threw the ball with some regularity … and it’s not just an option on third and long (which we find ourselves in way too often). We run when it’s obvious and we pass when it’s obvious …. It almost makes me throw up. My gosh … it’s the Bengals … … … The BENGALS !!
So I guess your so smart that you called the Cooley fumble. It start there and then our D let us down in the 1st qtr then in the 4th but it did not help with all the mistakes in between. This was a team loose and not to be blamed on any one player. |

Precisely. Geez I say the Skins are driving their fans mad, and these guys think fans like me are totally losing faith or loyalty to our team. The things that have transpired since the end of 2001 have been totally whack to put in nicely. Snyder doesn't hire the right guy so we can have stability and something concrete to build on. Gibbs should not have been hires, as everyone knew he was gone after say 4 years. Snyder needed to hire an active coach after Spurrier, not the HOF Gibbs, who was gone in a few seasons anyway. |
