Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Maybe the plan is to turn Eddie Williams into a tackle.
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Another TE, oh I'm sorry, i thought we had Chris Cooley, Todd Yoeder, And Didn't we draft Fred Davis last year? 4 TE's. Whatever, it's the 7th round.
I think both Pashos and Levi Jones could be good pick ups. I'm hoping that Bugel sees something in Williams and Heyer and thats why we didn't take an OT. Also I think Kwame Harris is out there. I know he was a BUST in oakland but who isn't. He is young and talented and maybe could see what he can do in camp. Call me crazy but I think a change of scenery could really help him.
Harris may be one of those guys who gets better just by leaving Oakland. Plus we would have him primarily at RT, which is less demanding than the LT that he played in Oakland. As for Williams, see his updated thread. The dude currently weighs 410 pounds! |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
lol a TE
Seems like more of a receiving FB thats going to play for us on kicks. Probably end up on the practice squad but damn, Vinny likes to go deep down. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
This pick looks like a note to Sellers more than anything else
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
^ Yeah, probably so.
Still, not a single OL? gnash gnash |
This pick looks like a note to Sellers more than anything else
That would not be a bad note. |

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Williams weighs 239. Scratch my speculation about making him a tackle. You guys surmising a FB are likely right on.
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
On Comcast, they are saying he's a FB
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Oh, FB/TE
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
^ Yeah, probably so.
Still, not a single OL? gnash gnash
I am calling it now PICK 243 - HOF BOOKEND RT - 12 YEAR STARTER ;) |

Looks like he's a good west coast guy
That would not be a bad note.
This guy will not be out Sellers. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Hey at least we drafted a TE!!
The fact that we haven't drafted a single offensive lineman is pretty baffling. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
This guy will not be out Sellers.
probably not, but it does say, "hey, if you don't want to play for us, well we will try this guy." Remember, Sellers cost Zorn alot of mocking when he missed that one catch. Now I doubt that in and of itself was a make or break thing, but I doubt Zorn feels as enamored with him as some of us fans. |

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
This guy will not be out Sellers.
Agreed, there is NO way in hell, Sellers might throw him on the grill and eat him as an appetizer before he moves on to Cody. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
He'll probably be groomed to eventually replace Sellers. Eddie Williams, TE, Idaho
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion

Maybe, but if this guy takes Sellers' focus from his contract and returns it to football, that may not be a bad thing. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
What if we pick a QB here? would JC still demand a trade?
|

that ship sailed long ago. |

Joe Bugel is shaking his head and I am too.

so then I take it JC would too

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Or maybe a reflection of the fact that this is one of the weakest OL drafts in some time.
The merciful news is that it is coming to an end. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
After Caldwell got taken before we picked in the third, it really didn't make much sense to take a flyer on a lineman. If we had identified a hole, the proper move would have been to aggressively try to move up from the third round for a guy like William Beatty at the back end of round two.
Once the opportunity passed, it would have been bad to hopelessly chase an offensive linemen. We could have taken Oher or Mack, but since we didn't, the proper move is to re-focus on the development of the young talent we already have on our line (plus a priority UDFA). |

Perhaps as well we have improved the offense by providing it with shorter fields to work with, provided by a stouter defense. |

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
If we just get Mike Williams to beef up a little, he can play the entire OL by himself.
Joe Bugel is shaking his head and I am too.
Hey Trample, Honestly, I think the draft filled 2 of the 3 need areas. I know we still gotta get the OL right, but remember for the first half of the year they held their own. we get better depth from FA, including Dockery, and we should be ok. I think everyone is counting on the offense to come together somewhat this year. I am sure Buges is getting his input heard. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
2 more till our draft is finished. Quick thoughts on what position we take?
|
