Incorrect. There is no no-trade clause.
Perhaps I'm wrong but McNabb had a "no trade" clause with the Eagles. We traded with the Eagles, because McNabb allowed the trade, which means we have essentally picked up the "no trade" contract McNabb had. Unless he signes an extension or a new deal. Correct? |

Correct?
I thought that they said he actually didn't have that clause? And if so it probably wouldn't be transferable, but it'd depend on the writing |

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
The good news if there is any is that when Shanahan took over in Denver he had Elway at 34 and went to the SB. He's getting McNabb at 33. Maybe something happens. We'll see.

Basically he got to pick from a few teams the Eagles gave him options for. The Skins was the best option for him (McNabb). |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
List of NFL QB's that have passed for more than 30,000 yards passing and rushed for more than 3000:
1) Elway 51,000 passsing 3,200 rushing 2) Tarkenton 42,000 passing and 3,600 rushing 3) Steve Young 33,120 passing and 4,200 rushing 4) McNabb 32,000 passing and 3,249 rushing Top three are HOF'ers #1 Elway was with Shanahan. |

I think he said something to the effect that he wanted Young to throw for even more TDs in the Super Bowl where Young set the Super Bowl record for TD passes in a Super Bowl. |

He definitly had one with the Eagles. He basically said he'd work with them if they traded him to a team he liked. If they wouldn't he would invoke the clause. I would presume that when he agreed to the trade his contract came with him until we either extend him or resign him. He has like one year left I think. I just don't see how by this trade taking place a part of McNabbs contract is now null and void? We basically picked up his whole contract until he has a redo on his contract. |

I remember hearing that on NFLN. If thats true then Shanahan's an A-hole, but he's our A-hole now :D |

Being an a-hole to Dallas in the NFC Championship game is a-OK with me. We have a tradition to uphold with regards to that. |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Per McNabb in a statement....
McNabb is entering the final year of a contract and it's unknown whether he is negotiating an extension with the Redskins. Reid said the possibility McNabb could refuse to go to another team or decline to extend his contract was not a factor
|
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
There was no no-trade clause, just something that said he could refuse to negotiate an extension or something. In effect it allowed him to choose where he went.
Exactly. Basically his version of a no-trade clause as I've said before was hoping to scare teams that he didn't like off enough to discourage them from trading for him. |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
I'm hoping this mean's we're looking toward the 2011 draft for a long term QB, and then having the guy sit behind mcnabb for a season or two. I think Jake Locker and Andrew Luck (love this guy), are going to be better than any of the QB's in this draft, and having one of them sit behind a vet like Mcnabb can only be beneficial.... or Snyder just got bored hahaha.

You think Luck will come out next year? |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
"Reid said the possibility McNabb could refuse to go to another team or decline to extend his contract was not a factor"
What else would Reid say? Obviously the Eagles wouldn't trade Mcnabb to a division rival without being forced to do so. |

Doesn't have much of a choice. He went to Washington in 2006 so this is his last year of eligibility. |

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
I mean Locker is going to be the first off the board next year...we'd have to be pretty atrocious to get him...and I don't see us being THAT bad. That said, whoever said Luck has a promising potential knows his stuff...hei s THAT GOOD! Me personally...I'd rather take a shot at Barkley from USC two years from now...that would be a franchise QB...anyone disagree?
|
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
And I do think Luck will come out next year, he'll probably be a top 3 QB in his class..so I don't see why he wouldn't...gotta cash in when you can. Really depends on the QB classes after him though.

who knows man.. he got a lot of attention because he was a true freshman starting at USC, but he also earned the spot and had a pretty solid year.. a little up and down though |

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Why this trade isn't being met with the skepticism of bringing in an older declining vet, like early Snyder moves, is beyond my understanding. Was McNabb very good or excellent in his prime, yes, I know I hated watching him beat up on us in the early 2000's. But that's not the McNabb we are getting, and we gave up too much to get him. Again, the Warpath poll was 3 to 1 against bringing him here. Where are all the people who talk about the Eagles getting rid of a guy a year early, and how wise that is. Well we just received the guy they got rid of, and in a year (even assuming McNabb signs an extension which we have no obvious guarantee) we will be back with no QB, or a 35 yo with declining ability and one less pick, and no young qb to groom (like McCoy or Tebow reasonably could have been).
Gtripp doesn't know how badly he's messing with himself. Campbell having to learn a new playbook? No problem for McNabb, who has plenty of experience in the Walsh O. Win for McNabb.
Campbell beating out McNabb short passing-wise? Uhhh, no. O that requires the QB to throw on the run or extend that play? McNabb wins by a longshot. We know he has the instincts to make plays on the move. Deep ball? McNabb Age? Evened out by Campbell lack of experience. Durability? When Fat Andy passes 50+ times a game, of course he's going to get his QB hurt eventually.
I'll put the over/under on games played as a Redskin for McNabb at 11.5. You'll bite?
