Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
I thought I remember something about Beck having a side arm delivery... is that right or does he have the standard delivery (can't access clips at work).

I think he uses both but has a strong preference towards throwing side armed. |

Good read that should be favorably received by most Redskin fans. Writer sensibly spells out what is a good strategy based on the unfavorable imposition the lockout has created. The Beck/Grossman combination to me makes the most sense and they're probably going to need them both to get through a sixteen game schedule. |

Beck may be alright, he probably still has a lot of gas left in the TANK.

Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
Will be interesting to see if they go after some UDFA for their 3rd QB-Tolzien, Weber, the other guy whose name I'm forgetting or will they just ride with 2 QBs?
|
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
I think they gotta add a developmental QB/camp arm to the roster.
I think Adam Froman is the guy you're thinking about; he Josh Portis, Hartline, Devlin will be the most sought after UDFA QBs. |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
Go with Beck/Grossman this year.

The game has evolved and changed since then, plus that division was awful on the defensive side of the ball for a long time ... 6 games a year awful ... I just don't think any of the comparing to wat he did in Denver or who he did it with Matters |

Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
I posted before that I felt strongly that our starting QB for next season was not yet on the roster. I thought we'd probably draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd Round and re-sign Grossman to start in the near-term. Now, I read that Shanahan is serious about Beck as the starting QB. I still can't believe it! I don't think that I'll allow myself to believe it until Beck takes the first snap in the opening game.
I suppose it's possible that Donavan McNabb has re-dedicated himself and is preparing to have a great season (as he claims) and that, somehow, he and the Shanahans can be reconciled and that Donavan can be our starter next season. Or, perhaps we'll be able to trade for Carson Palmer or Kyle Orton. But to have John Beck as our starter at QB is definitely the worst case scenario. I would prefer to have a pissed off McNabb or the journeyman Grossman as our starter, if that's the best we can do. |

This is pretty much my sentiment. I'd rather have Beck/Grossman at the helm than some guy who doesn't know the system. (Hasslebeck, Young) |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
They'll never say it publicly, but Shanahan (and the organization) is going to tank the season. He can't be serious if all these reports are true about handing the job to John Beck. Either he's tanking or he thinks he's smarter than everyone. I think the organization is looking at the 2012 draft class for a QB. That's why they passed on all the QB's this year.

Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
They are not tanking the season. Look, there are only a few Manning's and Brady's and Brees's out there... the rest of the NFL has to go with "other guys" to captain and QB their team. There are a lot of worse QB situations on other teams than the Redskins. How would you like to be the 49ers or the Cardinals or the Titans or the Raiders.
If Beck plays within the system, something McNabb couldn't do and makes fewer mistakes than Grossman (i.e. TD/INT ratio) and the Defense is not 31st in the league this coming year, then maybe these Skins win 9 games with Beck at QB. I'm mean, was Schaub a stud before he came to the Texans? |

Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
Tanking in football is patently absurd.
Mike Shanahan tanking on purpose is beyond absurd. I'll believe Mike Shanahan is gonna tank when and if: o He trades London Fletcher to a contending team. Mike loves the guy and has utmost respect for him a player and a leader. Shanahan wouldn't waste the end of Fletcher's career in a tank job. Bruce Allen actually cited Fletcher as part of the reason why they're trying to be competitive:
“I don’t know what rebuild is. I think there’s an opportunity each week to do well in the NFL. Last year we had a chance to do better, we had a chance to do worse than our 6-10 record. And every opportunity that we’re gonna be given this year, we’ve got to compete. I don’t think it’s fair to a veteran player to say that we’re gonna worry about 2014 instead of 2011. London Fletcher deserves the opportunity to try to win every game we play, and that’s what our organization’s gonna focus on.”
|

You're joking right???? Wow. I think Beck can be better then Jason Campbell. No one is tanking anything. I said this before and ill say it again......ANDREW LUCK IS NOT GOD!!!!!!!!
