I still don't think we will have a defense that would carry the team, even with a top flight CB on board, because of our inept offense. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Throw those RG3 dreams out of the window. I knew this would happen. Thanks to Arthur Blank Cleveland is definitely going to land RG3 next year and not the Redskins. Another strike against this hapless regime who hasn't done anything yet to improve our team from where it stood prior to them coming in. This will be the 3rd year in a row where these clowns were unable to land a franchise QB. I know my vitriol is premature but Cleveland has more to offer than we do. I even went to numerous Cleveland Browns forums and their fans are clamoring for him. Not saying the fans will dictate who Holmgren drafts but will most certainly have some degree of influence once the local media pressure kicks in to high gear.
PROJECTED TRADE: Several teams are going to try and move up to get Griffin but the Browns have the most ammo -- the fourth overall pick and a late first-rounder or high picks in later rounds. Cleveland needs Griffin -- and wants him, according to league sources -- and the Rams will still get their man. Mock Drafts 2012: Richardson could slip to Bengals at No. 17
I vehemently disagree with your post. Shanahan is the first coach in a long time that's coming in here and rebuilding this franchise the right way. Of course there were some misses, but there isn't a single organization that doesn't make mistakes. I remember this board clamoring when McNabb was brought in and the move heavily praised by fans. Shannahan stated that his focus was on the defense and switching a 4-3 to a 3-4. Our defense went from 31st last season to 13th this season. If we improve our secondary I see this defense being formidble for many years to come. Especially as the players continue to understand the 3-4 and we get players built for the type of scheme we're running. In addition, Shanahan throughout his career has had succesful offenses. I think we see an emphasis on building a potent offense in DC and I have no doubt he is capable of doing that. He didn't get fired in Denver because his offense wasn't producing. His defense was absolutely pathetic. It takes time to rebuild a team. While Griffin is a great prospect, he isn't a sure thing. Can you imagine giving up 4-6 fairly high picks for a player and not have him pan out? I can imagine it now. Fans and media crucifying Shanahan for such a 'stupid move.' If going up to get RGIII is affordable, then I'm all for it -- but if it will cost the farm, stay put or move back and continue to build the entire team. As I said in another thread. I could see us going after an FA QB such as Flynn. Blackmon or Floyd (hopefully Blackmon) in the 1st, then Foles/Tannehill in the 2nd. I want to see Washington build a perrenial winner. I'm fine taking some lumps in order to get both a scheme and young personnel established. took the 31st ranked defense to the 13th ranked defense |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
You know how many Skins fans are going to be borderline suicide come draft day if Shanahan doesn't move up to get RGIII and drafts a CB at the #6 spot?....lol I imagine prozac sales will skyrocket in the DC area. :laughing-
What are you talking about? 1.) You really think the Redskins settled Ryan Kerrigan, Roy Helu, Jenkins, Hankeson etc.? 2.) You're acting like the Browns have already traded up for RG3, they might but they haven't yet 3.)If Cerrato got the players he wanted we wouldn't be talking about RG3 because we'd already have our QB in Jay Cutler 4.) Why do people think this FO gave up some big amount to get Rex? He is not and never has been a long term solution
Yes we settled for Ryan Kerrigan(im not saying he's not good), that's why we traded back. You don't trade back unless the player you really wanted was already drafted. Roy Helu was a third stringer who only got to play when Hightower went down and Torrain was released, he wasn't drafted to be a starter. Hankerson, was a good pick, but Shannahan still sat him on the bench and allowed his old guys like Stalworth and Gaffney get a majority of the snaps. Without getting a franchise QB were looking at more 6-10 seasons for years to come. The Shannhans have done nothing to prove that can acquire, draft, or develop an elite QB. I'm tired of everyone making excuses for the Shannhans ineptitude. I'm actually more pissed that we didn't get Jake Locker last year, someone who we could of dealt for and landed. Now we're going to have to "settle" for whatever 2nd rate QB is out there since the Shannahans are incapable of getting a true franchise QB. |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I'm just lmao at the fans who think we have to get our franchise QB now and from the draft. and laughing at the others who think it's RGIII. Apparently there is no other QB out there worth anything other then RGIII. With out even playing a down in the NFL he's become "the guy". Superman.
I guess all the other QB's should just not even enter the draft cause clearly they are not worthy. |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Let's wait and see how this all plays out. I keep going back and forth on this. Only thing that IS clear is the the Redskins need a franchise QB, but they also need to keep building the roster up. That secondary was very uninspiring to watch this season, and the Redskins need to continue building that offensive line into something that is solid and has depth.
Regardless as to what Shadowbyte said, Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan have brought in some great talent and they're building through the draft. It's a process. If we want a truly solid team - both offense and defense - it takes time. Even I get carried away when we talk about Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. Both are solid, smart QBs and I think both have great careers in the NFL. But, think about it. If our offensive line is solid, strong, and excellent in pass protection and run blocking, don't you think that's much better situation for a young QB to be in to grow and develop into a top notch QB rather than a team that still has obvious weaknesses? What about on defense? Wouldn't you love to see a true shutdown CB ala Darrell Green or Champ Bailey, and a solid defensive front which makes it impossible to run against? I want this team to have no deficiencies. Look what happened to the Packers. We all thought that team was headed to the Super Bowl. As good as they have looked this year, they obviously lacked something. The same COULD be said about the Patriots by the end of this coming weekend. And what will both have in common? Defenses give up way too many yards. Goes to show you, if you want to build a champion, you have to play like one on both sides of the ball. Mike Shanahan is trying to build a champion, not just a team that will be good enough to make the playoffs but never get that far. |

I think it would be highly unlikely we would throw a drafted QB in the fire from day one like Dalton and expect results. Are you talking about Jimmy Clausen again SS? |

Not really talking about anyone specifically...but there is a "sleeper" I've mentioned a couple of times whose name has been getting some off the record mention lately. To clarify, I'm not sure next season even ends with a rookie QB starting...but there will be one on the roster |

So you are telling me that this team is no better or worse than last year and the year before?!? You have to have all the pieces before you can put the puzzle together. Otherwise you spend all that time flipping all the pieces right side up (drafting and FA), putting the boarders together (strengthening and developing mental and physical skills) only to find that your puzzle is incomplete and doesn't look right (can't win games). We are in a better place than we were two years ago regardless of our record, and if you refuse to see that, then I don't know what to tell you. |

Yeah some definitely seem to be setting themselves up to be disappointed. Who knows what Shanny even thinks of RG3 or what his overall plan is for QB? I for one wouldn't be disappointed if we sat back like last year and picked up extra picks. This team has plenty of holes to fill. A QB isn't going to solve everything overnight. Cleveland has the extra picks to play with, a move up for them makes more sense than the Skins moving up. |

This is exactly what I'm worried about. Jason Campbell, Patrick Ramsey, Gus Frerotte, #5 I forget his name, these were all "can't miss, sure fire pro-bowlers", that were going to lead us to the promised land. I am extremely leery to mortgage the teams future on a QB that IS A SURE FIRE BACK UP DAY 1. He is a true spread QB coming out of college and will not have success day 1 because he NEEDS the time and practice to become a professional, and learn the position and playbook he will be expected to play. Will he become a great QB? Maybe, he certainly displays great athletic skills, and by all accounts is an intelligent and hard working young man, but that doesn't mean he is going to come in and light it up day one. History says that it is more likely to come in and fall flat on his face than the opposite. |

Heath Shuler. I'd wouldn't include Gus Frerotte. He was a seventh rounder who actually played pretty well for the 'skins for the most part. He wasn't expected to be the starter (Heath was.) |

When rebuilding a team you cannot expect instant gratification. We've tried that route before. You're probably the first guy blasting Dan Snyder when we go out and get free agents or mortgage picks for a higher pick/player. What I've seen is an increase in the amount of young talent we have on our roster. Our draft last year was one of the best in the NFL. We had multiple young players contributing to this team. Kerrigan played well all season, Helu/Royster stepped it up late, Hurt/Neild both did well in some reserve time. Hankerson had one good game then got hurt, but we saw some talent there. I typically give WRs 3 years to start to produce before giving up, so he is ahead of the all-important Daseal schedule! There seems to be so much hate pointed towards Shanny and I simply don't see it. Our team was bad this season, but I see a lot of positives to build on which is not typically how I see this Redskins team. |

Unless of course our coaching staff tries to work in the spread offense like The Panther and Bronco's did. But otherwise your concerns are mine 100%. Fans wanting RG3 just because he's supposed to be ranked #2 but the Combine has not even come yet. Funny how the #2 ranked QB decides to stay in college and everyone panicks about having to take the next best thing. Guess what RG3 will be gone, Skins won't reach for him and the next best thing is Tannehill. Yes I said it the next best thing is Tannehill so go ahead fans and start talking about how we gotta get him and how you'll turn in your fan cards if we don't get him and how MS needs to get him or the Skins are doomed. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I know Holmgren isn't great with secrecy, but I want to point out that the overwhelming likelihood of the Browns <3 RGIII rumors are coming from outside the Browns organization. That's not to say that the Browns don't like RGIII, but the people who think the Browns might actually give up two first rounders to move up are probably not employees of the Browns.

For someone who is saying MS needs to get it right and take the right QB because this coming year might cost him his job after year 3 in a 5 year contract, I'm supprised you would settle for an unknown commodity. I think people get too riled up about who "THEY" want or would like to see the Skins get that they forget that there are other choices. What if MS and KS don't believe RG3 is their style of QB? |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Also, same thing goes for "the Redskins will trade up for RGIII" rumors.

Funny the same thing was said about Locker last year. Also the opposite was said about Dalton. I really wish we had taken Dalton just to quiet down the panicked "we have to get a Rookie QB" because no one else can get the job done. Franchise QBs are developed and work well over years of service, what you want is a flash in the pan.... Another Mile Vick, how many SB's did he win? I'd rather have someone who can be developed and take this team into the play offs for many years because he is the right QB for our system vs having a highlight reel. |

Your right but lets not forget Miami and the Browns have commented on the fact that RG3 is worh taking because he fits into any system... According to the Browns HC. Which is why the Browns HC was supposed to get reprimanded for commenting on a college player who had not declared yet. Trust me I'm sure their interested especially since their drafted QB didn't play lights out. Miami's interested too. I'd be supprised if the Rams and Vikes are not somewhat interested and looking at possibly taking him. |

RG3 had better overall production and accomplishments than Vick had coming out. RG3 has a more stable upbringing than Vick. RG3 is more intelligent than Vick. Why would these facts make one think RG3's career would be similiar? |
