Come on he just chucked it down field? Your making my point. One of the best plays in SB history and the only credit you give him is chucking the ball down field. His brother would have gone down to avoid taking a hit like he normally does.
Did he hit Tyree in stride? Did he throw it over one defender but underneath another? Did he drop it over Tyree's shoulder when he was in tight coverage?

Tyree and the safety were standing there waiting for the ball to come down. Tyree made the play over the safety. Its considered a great play because of the helmet catch.

Edit: They also won that game 17-10. The undefeated Patriots, who set all kinds of offensive records that year, scored 10 points. They won because of their defense.
Well, add in also Eli had to escape ,was almost pulled down and did it on the run.Did the Giants D play well yes but so did Eli.
If you read my entire response, you will see that I mentioned the escape. I still dont understand why people are so quick to jump on that specific play. Eli's play was escaping, not the throw. The throw was more of a hail mary than anything. If you want to highlight a throw of Eli's, why people dont talk about the second SB with the Manningham catch. That was as close to a perfect pass as you can get in that situation. It also required one helluva catch. That play can easily go down as one of the best in a SB due to the fact that it took a great throw as well as a great catch just to be a successful play.

Also just to add, I never once said Eli sucks. I dont consider him elite due to his inconsistency, but to say someone is not elite does not mean that to say that they arent any good. I consider Eli to be in that tier just below the group that includes Brady and Rodgers. He has played games where he played like Brady, but he also has his fair share of games where he played like Rex Grossman.

Edit: Actually it was a post or two earlier where I mention that escape, not the specific post you quoted.

I'm gonna say it, I'm not a huge fan of signing/drafting players who are sons of formerly great players. Just because they're related doesn't mean we'd be getting Steve Tasker 2.0. Case in point: Jarrett Payton.

Although there are exceptions to your argument, I agree with your essential logic: just 'cuz Daddy was a great player doesn't mean you will be, too.

I hope Kai stays on target this year. It was nice to have a consistency in the kicking game, still wouldn't mind having a dedicated KO kicker though.

What a mess in Denver. They must have filed the Welker contract and gone over the cap. So Elvis has left the roster.

That's a great signing for NE. If only we had the cap space for a pass rusher like him.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

If we were going to sign a pass rusher Dummervil would have to be the move, but there is no way that would happen.

Maybe if things were different. A DL with a rotation on Carriker, Jenkins, and Dummervil would fix the lack of a pass rush. Having Rak come off of the same side as Dummervil would be pretty amazing.
and about 6-7mill more money than we have to spend. would have been nice though, for sure.
Thinking about it there are two things that are important here Shanny drafted the guy for one, but even if we had the cash would we spend it there or use it to take care of our own pass rusher in Rak next year?

My money would be on Rak if he didn't have all the same injury derailing his season the last two years. Now that may be in doubt, and I think with the FO not offering an extension now makes me believe that they are in the same boat to or just waiting to get the cash back next year.

The helmet rule is a good idea on the surface but like Golic I believe that with the new rule being open to interpretation will cause dumb founded fans and players on crucial plays. There is just to much of that rule that can be screwed up. Emmit Smith who we all just love had a good interview on his view of it yesterday.

I am going to go back an watch some of the Morris highlight tapes on you tube to see how it will affect our runner. For a guy who never goes down I want to see how much I that is due to maybe that or just his own beastlyness.

I can't remember ALFMO really leading with the crown of the helmet. He gets low & absorbs blows but doesn't look to deliver a hit.

I think this rule will help him as a runner. D-players cant try to blow up RB's anymore. ALFMO is difficult to tackle straight up.

My main concern is with the refs and how they will decide to enforce this rule. I feel any big hit delivered by a RB now will lead to a penalty.

Garbage rule. Pure trash. Maybe the football is to heavy to carry as well, Nerf footballs are nice and safe. First time that penalty is called I'm unleash a mofo heard round the world.

MTK 03-20-2013 02:33 PM

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

I really don't see this new helmet rule as being a big deal.

They're trying to eliminate blatant use of the helmet in the open field, which doesn't happen all that often.

I think I heard that there were 30 or so plays last year that would have been flagged under this rule. So in a total of 256 regular season games we're talking about 30 plays? It shouldn't have much of an impact at all. The league has to continue to protect players against head injuries, this rule is more window dressing than anything.
