We paid close to that for Golston
It was reported it was $3 million guaranteed for Alexander (which seems to be a signing bonus). And Golston was paid a $360,000 signing bonus. Without getting all the contract details, it seems like a big difference considering the cap hit this year. |

Even better, it's actually 5.2 for Golston. I would guess that's only if he hits all of his bonuses too. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I'm tired of Zo's attitude on this to be quite honest. Sure he's a great person, terrific special teamer, but let's not kid ourselves and say he should be part of our linebacker rotation for the next 3 years. A young linebacker like KRobinson will suffice.
Good luck in Arizona Zo, but you knew the cap penalties were real. Want to win? I guess not. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
He was solid but very disposable if not for the right price people. The PB was nice but if not for that we would still have him... with that his price went up is the problem.

I concur. Job well done good sir. |
Boldin said he'd retire if he didn't get resigned by Baltimore, Ed Reed said last year he doesn't want to play for anyone but the ravens... Man Money is power lol

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Lorenzo Alexander is a glorified special teams player. Sure he's nice to have in case someone gets injured because he can play multiple positions, but as said, starter material or in the rotation? Not really.
He'll get playing time now which is great for him, but I'm glad the Redskins didn't give him what they offered, let alone what the Cards gave him. |

well he said they changed the offer Monday. so I could see that they did that as they neared the decision to keep Moss and Carriker instead of cutting them. If he doesn't understand the cap penalty part of it, oh well, Bottomline it was about money and that's his right, but don't try to put the skins down, if the 2.7 million was enough Monday he could have signed Sunday and gotten it. then we would have cut either Carriker or Moss or both. edit grantpaulsen tweeted that Zo understood: Alexander was considering signing w/ #Redskins for smaller deal before they lowered guaranteed $ on MON night. Said theres no hard feelings. bottomline you can count at least CB and ST captain as 2 positions directly impacted.by the cap penalty. keep that in mind as the season plays out. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Zo is the kind of player that barring injury will play 5 more years. He may be back in B & G before his career is over. He put down roots here and I wouldn't be surprised to see him back one day, but this year the cap penalty killed it.
I want to say this too, the team has returned 46 of the 53 players from last years championship run. With the exceptions of Davis and Zo the remaining players that haven't been brought back have been in the defensive backfield. They must be looking at it from the perspective of: We ranked 31st, we retained the ones we could afford and it's not like adding a few players in FA and the draft back there could really do much worse. If there is improvement to be made changes in personel had to occur. They will figure out how to get it done and if three rookies have significant playing roles back there than so be it. The draft is deep at the positions we are in need of. |

Hopefully Keenan Robinson or another inside linebacker will be able to replace Alexander, but now we must look to the draft. The Redskins might be able to sign a quality young ILB in free agency. Maybe Chase Minnifield can prove his doubters wrong. Not saying he can step in for Hall, but Minnifield had first round talent coming out of Virginia. Whose to say he can't develop into an every down corner? Because he's coming off a knee injury, the odds are stacked against him. But I think he has what it takes to prove people wrong. And you're right about this year's defensive backfield draft class. The positions of safety and corner are deep. I'm sure Bruce Allen will end up selecting a few rare talents. |

I don't think it has to. our secondary and safety play in particular were so bad last year, we are basically just trying a new crew. Some will step up, some won't, but I would be shocked if our young guys can't at least equal what was a pretty dismal performance. Also, if our dline and olb's stay healthy (always a question), the experience guys like Jenkins and Jackson got this year by more extended play, should let us see some solid improvements in the pressure we generate. As was said, we kept our offense in place, so that should be a strength, and are going to have to go young at what was already an area in need of overhaul. I am pretty hopeful that next year won't see much of a decline in statistical performance, if any at all. And I like my koolaid with ice, thanks! |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Would like to see the skins give Dan Conner a look. Only 27 , good fit in our style defence . Could replace Alexander.

Of course you are correct that he becomes a starter there. Good for him. But he will join a crappy team edition of a franchise that already typically is off-the-radar, meaning he will have little national exposure. Instead of fighting for glory in a sexy NFL division, he'll slip into obscurity in NFL Siberia. |

for an extra 1.6MM garaunteed, can you blame him? 1.6MM to a guy like Lorenzo is alot more than 1.6MM to someone like Peyton Manning. Alexander Says Abruptly Lowered Contract Offer Changed His Mind « CBS DC
"I was ready to sign back with the Redskins on Monday night, but it wound up not being close at all,” Alexander said in an exclusive, in-person interview at the NFL Players Association meetings in the Bahamas where he’s representing Washington. “They were offering $2.6 [million guaranteed] with an overall contract of $7.5 million over three years. The next day, they called back and said they would only guarantee $1.4 [million] of that. Dropping more than a million dollars overnight without any reason, I couldn’t take that money out of my kids’ mouths. Based on everything I’ve done [for] this organization, doing everything the right way, it was just a bad way to treat me. I understand the business, but … it didn’t sit right at all with me.”
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Schefter just posted that there's essentially a bidding war between us and Cleveland for Fred.
I'm nervous. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/statuses/312195340252102656
One league source familiar with thinking of Washington free-agent TE Fred Davis said Redskins and Browns "are serious about signing him."
Hopefully we'll beat them out for Davis like we did for Griffin. New owner though, so we'll see if he's as shy with the trigger as the last guy. |
