Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
So if I read correctly, with our "hybrid" defense, Hatcher is going to line up as a NT, kinda like what Jay Ratliff was before he couldn't get in a three point stance anymore.
|
I kind of hope not. I dont want him eating up space i want him eating up qb's. What if he gets upset about being a NT and pulls a haynesworth?!?

If it's a one gap technique, he'll have plenty of chances to eat QB's. |

So it sounds like we are turning the front and OLB's loose to rush. I suppose this means even greater emphasis on the ILB's being run stoppers. This makes the Sharpton pickup better. But it also means that our ILB's will continue to struggle against TE's in the passing game. Someday hopefully we'll get an ILB who is good against both run and pass. |

Any word on Penn's visit today?

Both guys are young enough to get better there, but we could always draft an ILB in the 3rd round. |

I don't think Hatcher will play the space-eating NT role. Pretty sure they'll use him more at DE, aggressively rushing the passer. |

The Redskins are trying to set up a visit for Kenny Britt... your thoughts ?

For a low risk type of contract I say why not. |

Yup that's why I wouldn't given him anything more than a 1 year prove it type of deal. Little to no guaranteed $$. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Who is your choice to add: James jones, Sidney rice or Kenny Britt? I think we do need to add at least 1. I would chose jones.

Exactly, if he can get his head out of his ass, he has shown he can be dominant. I don't think it was arrested 9 times, but 9 times that the police had to intervene/arrest him. But if he can get his act together, a combo of Garcon, Britt, Roberts, Robinson, and Reed would do wonders. |

Yes, but more recently he quit on the Titans. It was evident to many NFL observers that his efforts were substandard. I don't know what issues he may have had with the Titans coaching staff but I do know that we don't need somebody who will sulk and loaf because he's unhappy about something. We all know he has talent but if we sign him I hope that the Skins management will cut him the instant he starts to become a problem. |

Jones. He's a very good player who has fewer negatives than the other two. |

Sidney Rice or Kenny Britt in that order. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
All signs point to our picking up another receiver, one which is better than Rice and the others, with our first pick in the draft. Such would be Gruden's MO from Cincy.

Maybe Jones , I would rather go OL/DB with our 8-9 $ million of spending # . Any word on TE O Daniels or T Penn ? |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Owen Daniels would b an epic waste of a roster spot. Hope we get penn, that would be an upgrade.
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Prediction- we sign Penn and Britt and let Owens walk. Per Cooley Owens is absolutely horrible in blocking. Hopefully a decent safety gets cut and we pick him up also.

Agree. Would like to see us draft Xavier Grimble TE USC 6th-FA. Washington Redskins Draft Profiles: Xavier Grimble, TE - Hogs Haven |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
If we get Penn, Id be all for a WR in the second round, or the best guard available. It seems we are slowly piecing together a defense with FA's and castoffs, so that Gruden can have HIS type of guys on O. Its definitely one way to do things, but a patchwork secondary scares the crap out of me.

It blows my mind that we get Tracy porter and people are talking about taking a WR in the 2nd and TE in the 3-4th. Seems like to me our porous secondary from last season is our most glaring issue. The first couple rounds need to address safety and cornerback IMO |

I don't think it's a very deep or good draft for that and we went defense last year so I don't think there going to draft another young safety. |

I understand. However, I'd almost bet my monthly paycheck that a WR will be our first pick, whether we like it or not. Just as his brother is a QB collector, Jay Gruden in Cincy was a receiver collector. The argument that RGIII really could use another elite weapon will win the day. I personally think it is a good argument - in today's NFL, the team with the most weapons often wins. But I also would have signed a good FA safety. Hopefully we will nab a FS like Terrence Brooks in the third. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Penn is at Redskins Park. Probably will know something tomorrow.

I am not under the illusion Porter is a good CB, however they now have 2 veteran CBs, and 2 young ones (Amerson + Crawford)... possibly Minnifield. Also the CB depth in this draft is questionable. Who would you take in the 2nd ? I would not pick a WR with the 2nd round pick, if a great player slips to the second round I take him... otherwise trade down, and add picks . They still need help everywhere. |

We could add 3 WR's and it won't mean squat if or OL and Defense are weak . |

That would be nice , add another pick in rd 3 or 4 . I hope we go OL and Defense early . |
