Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Still need to sign Kerrigan and Williams which won't be cheap. The interesting thing is RGIII, what happens with him depends on what he does. Will he get a last shot to prove himself?

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
you are right, however they must budget for the draft, and IR expenses
The budget is about equal to the current cap space
Just curious what you would say about the Giants, who are currently sitting around 4M, but have a projected Rookie pool of 6M? Or even the Saints at 3M with a rookie pool # of 7.5M As long as you are over 0, there is always time to make the numbers work. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Working the cap has never been an issue here. Eric Shaffer is one of the best in the biz. Relax, nothing to see here.

The forums cap sheets show that we have ~75M under contract next year (as of Dec., 2014, not including recent cuts and the new signings). Plenty of room to work in Williams, Kerrigan, Morris, K. Robinson, D. Young (if resigned). Plus, if they sign TW (2015 cap number = 13.7M) and RK (7.0M), it will likely significantly reduce their numbers this years and be cap friendly over the next few. |

The Redskins as someone already said have 3 good options to cut, and create space
So what the hell is your point? Or are you just now agreeing that cap space is not the problem you originally seemed to assert it was? |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Yes working the cap is an art we actually are good at. Paying the right players has been the problem.

Fixed it for you. Obviously, we may be singing a different tune at the end of the season, but, right now, Scot McC is making what appear to be some very, very good free agency moves. |

Sometimes it's best to leave the cap talk to the pros. ^

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
^^ True enough. With that said, this site has amazing cap analysts in Schneed and Canuck. For Redskin specific info, the resources on this site are simply excellent.
When you get right down to it, given these on-site resources, it really is inexcusable to start arguing about salary cap issues without first, at least, taking a good hard look at the info Schneed and Canuck work so hard at providing us. |

He can play either C or G. He would definitely be an upgrade at G. The Skins are at least the 7th team he's visited in FA. He had offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum which might be a factor in his not being signed yet. We know he's not going back to Oakland because they signed Hudson to play C. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
What's the deal with Wisniewski? No one has signed him and Oakland let him walk. Either he's just so so or he's asking for too much.
|
Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Or that shoulder isn't right.
He might have to take a one year prove it deal. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Or that shoulder isn't right.

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
My guess is that shoulder isn't all the way yet and he'll need to wait a little longer to get anything more than the aforementioned show-me deal. He's maybe a size and age upgrade over KL. Similar versatility...but probably better at C like KL. If the shoulder is right then a short deal at 3-4 a year is reasonable. We'll see. Not a hot spot to upgrade. KL was OK.

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Wis to center, lich to G, chester to door.
but i imagine if he will lower his demands and accept 3 per, he would be choosing btw us, sea, and a few others. not sure we win that popularity contest .... but we won the pot roast contest so who knows. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Don't think JG sees KL as a viable G. He likes big guys. Hence us over-paying just to get a mediocre LG last year.
But I'd rather have a giant dick cutout playing RG than Chester so yeah whatever. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
I would really like to know what SM thinks of Moses and Long. How he drafts might be a good indicator. It's best player available, but according to a lot of analysts what you have on the roster matters in how a team evaluates who is best.
KL didn't have many fans after 2013 playing G but was arguably our best OL last year because of Trent's injury struggles. Switching positions helped minimize the impact of his small stature. He is a natural C and will be more than just a stop gap if he stays at C this year. He would not do well going back to G imo, especially if the intention is to focus more on the power running game. |

Not a big fan of signing Wiesniewski unless McCloughan thinks he's a significant upgrade over Kory. But Kory was really good at center and is only 30. He can still be an impact player for a few more years. |

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
rumor was the Redskins were interested in Pierre Thomas before the draft. I would think they are still interested in him now- plenty of options to create cap space now
Pierre Thomas, RB for the New Orleans Saints at NFL.com |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
we got an RB to pass block in the 3rd. doubt we go for pierre now.

Why not, if the price is right? I love the way Pierre plays the game. He'd add even more toughness to our team. But, then again, What do I know? I'm just a fan who has his favorites among the NFL players. I want them all on our team. |

They need a RB that can catch the ball. Thomas had 45 receptions in 2014, and 71 in 2013. |

While I wouldnt be against bringing in Thomas, Matt Jones apparently has good hands and can pass block as well. |

Jones had 19 receptions in 3 years, with a 5.3 avg per reception |

Yeah I heard he didnt get many opportunities to catch the ball, but heard he had great hands. He's a big target too...Ive noticed specifically with RG3 he seems to have problems throwing too our backs sometimes. It was like Helu or Morris would really have to adjust to RG3 throws, sometimes it looked like RG3 was throwing to a spot. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?

While I think you are correct. I would not be surprised if they bring him in at vet min as an experienced back in case C.Thompson and/or Jones can't fulfill the role or need a year to develop. Sometimes (see D. Goldson) it's good to have a guy with NFL experience on the roster at a spot in case your developmental player fails to step up. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
i'm not sure he'd come here to be a potential #3 or camp cut for vet min unless he had no other offers. and if no one else wants him at vet min, including his former team, what's that saying exactly?
might just end up being like when we brought in larry johnson and co and they failed out in preseason. |

It's official. He is a FA. How about we take K. Arrington this guy over often injured and expensive Tracy Porter? |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
i think they've been looking to replace porter. i wouldn't be against it, depending on the deal.
