At this point, he is just cashing checks. Doesnt sound like he gives a shit about our team. I'd rather go 8-8 with Colt save all that money and draft a qb next year.

Local radio is going to be bashing the team 24/7; I already see Grant Paulsen b*tching about the whole thing on Twitter.

Cousins is lucky that the team has such a bad rep, that he doesn't have to worry about any negative press.

I don't trust Kirk any more than Bruce Allen. Hope Skins saved a copy of that proposed contract and proof it was sent to Cousins agent.

I really don't see how Cousins Team turned down that offer if true. 53 mil signing, 72ml injury guaranteed?

That sounds like a fair deal to me.

53 mil guaranteed, not a signing bonus. The were tacking on an additional 29 mil to the 25 guaranteed money he's getting this year and finishing it up with 72mi for injury.

Schneed10 07-17-2017 04:47 PM

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Allen notes that the team made an offer on May 2. They offered $53M in guaranteed money, which is $1M more than this year's franchise tag number + next year's transition tag number. And he'd be under Redskin control for five years.

Not worth it for Cousins. He's better off staying on the one-year plan.

Allen continues to fail to recognize the leverage his wait and see strategy has handed to Cousins. Allen seems to think he's still negotiating from a typical negotiating position. It's not a typical position; the current position has the team bent over, grabbing their ankles with white knuckles. And they put themselves in that position.

Next season, the price is only going to go higher. And Allen will hem and haw about making him the highest paid player in the NFL. It's not about that Bruce, you dipshit. It's about Kirk's opportunity cost. He has the opportunity to hit the free agent market in his prime, something you permitted to happen. It has you over a barrel, ass in the air. Recognize it and pay the freight, or you'll lose him.

Fire this idiot.

I'd have to assume some of that additional guaranteed money would be in some form of up front bonus next year.

Not all guaranteed money is a bonus, but all bonus money is guaranteed.

He's making it sound like they offered a great deal and then Cousins' agent never responded back. I'm sure that didn't happen. Honestly, if I'm Dan Snyder I seriously think about ditchin' the stooge.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

At the end of the day, I'm convinced that Cousins doesn't want to be here, hence why he's probably asking some outlandish number.

When Carr got his deal, many people thought Cousins should get a similar deal, and it sounds that's what he was offered.

His deal would have actually been higher than Carr (40 gtd), Luck (44 gtd), Rodgers (33 gtd), Newton (41 gtd), and Wilson (31 gtd); when looking at deals in the past two years.

I have a reason to pull for skins this year..to watch Cousins sh*t the bed..Mr big time "show me da money" You have no intention of signing a deal with Skins .you want out of here..why don't you just say it. Could the Skins have handled this better? 100% yes but if you go back and look the timing was all on Cousins side. There will be a lot of fans who don't give a crap if you leave..you have talent for sure but you are not as great as you think..my bet is we miss playoffs this year..we at best go 8-8 and truth is Cousins does not strike fear in NFL defense ..Top 10 QB? NO WAY you are at best slightly above mid pack . lets see how you do without Djax now He scared the Defense! is Cousins better than colt?? Heck yea But we can win 6 or 7 games with Colt ..Cousins is at best a system QB who needs great talent around him to win..He will never be able to carry a team the way Brady,Rogers,Brees,Big Ben,Ryan,Manning,Wilson,Newton can. We were not even competitive against the Panthers and several other teams at the end. Talk about a moment to step up and show the redskins what you are ..HOW ABOUT the Giants game with playoffs on the line and you choke..dont tell me How you like me now in some game you guys were getting blown out and had a ton of breaks to eke out a win.Lead your team to a few wins late in the year and make the playoffs!! You do that and you would have your LONG TERM deal. I am moving on as a fan and could care less what Cousins does.

Amen. We're only in this position because Allen put us in this position. All this "we can talk after the season" shit is total fucking BS, why would Kirk even entertain an offer when he knows he can ride out the 1 year deal, hit free agency, and have SF/Kyle S. pay him market rate on a long term deal. It's a total win-win for him. Fuck Bruce Allen.

I'm gonna enjoy this year knowing it might be the last year we have a competent qb under center for a while. Looking forward to being at square fucking one at qb next offseason.

It doesn't make sense to compare Cousins to recent deals signed by Carr, Luck, Newton, Wilson, whoever.

The leverage drives it. Either it's really about money, or he wants out.

We're in this position because Cousins doesn't want to be here period. The team's mistake was to not trade him when they could have. But oh well, here's to one good year (hopefully).

Well he would have made more guaranteed money than those guys, so he just wants out. How do you negotiate with someone who doesn't want to be on your team?

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

5 yrs, approx 24-25 M per year, 53-71M guaranteed .... that is what I thought Cousins wanted.

Im struggling to understand how that is not a good deal for Cousins. I guess the argument is that he making guaranteed 24M this year plus 28M next year on a transition tag .... so that equals 52M guaranteed over 2 years with no long term commitment vs the offer of 53 guaranteed over 5 years of team control.

He will be 29 when this season starts, 30 next year. Plus he is one major injury away from being damaged goods.

So what did Cousins want?

26M per year?

Not play for the Skins and Gruden? The neophite head coach who put his neck on the chopping block to make Kirk the starter 2 years ago?

Too much for me to absorb and process.

KC obviously wants out. My question is why?

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

How do I even enjoy winning when the guy that plays qb doesn't even want to be on the team. I don't want him here next year. I'd rather lose with Colt or Nate than win with a guy that will use winning with our great offense to get paid more by someone else or force us to transition tag him and have some team that offer a loaded contact that really hamstrungs us.

Why would he want to be here? The team's GM keeps lowballing him. It was insulting at the start, and that might be the reason he declined the latest decent offer. I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if he wanted out at this point. And of course he'd be happy to play out the year, he's getting paid 44 mil for 2 years of football, and when he hits FA next year some team (likely SF) is gonna give him a deal that makes the 44 mil look like chump change.

We seem to be forgetting about supply and demand here. Ya'll think just because we found this diamond in the rough it means we can just conjure up another one since we apparently aren't satisfied with this one.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

That was a reasonable offer. (I actually had that as my guess for Sunday signing amount earlier in this thread) Schneed, he could have had 73 million guaranteed for injury. If he suffers a major knee blowout, then he gets this 24million and then whatever else. I don't think the Skins made an unreasonable offer, or one that should get scorn tossed at Allen. Clearly KC stuck his foot in the ground and wants to wait for next season.

At this point, I just want the Skins to have an outstanding season and let the chips fall where they may.

CRedskinsRule 07-17-2017 05:19 PM
Sunday
6 years 150m total value, 85 injury guaranted, 53.5mil fully guaranteed
(fully guaranteed = FT this year + transition tag amount next year +750K base each year, injury covers 3 full years)

I don't see how Cousins signs anything less.

I also think the deafening silence is very good news. If it was not happening, I believe that Cousins camp would be letting teams know the Skins numbers weren't to his liking.
Here was my prediction. I don't see how KC didn't sign BA's quoted numbers. Must be nice to feel no need to lock in 70+million dollars.

At this point, who's fault it is doesn't matter. He doesn't want to be here and we should try to trade him and hope Colt can stay healthy for a year and Sudfeld takes a leap in his 2nd year. I don't want a lame duck qb leading our team.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

I don't know if he wants to play here or not. Maybe he really wants to stay but he believes waiting until next season will drive the price tag up so high that signing right now doesn't make any sense. Maybe he just wants out. The one thing I do know, is that he's the Redskins QB next season so I hope he lights it up and takes us back to the playoffs. If he does that, the Redskins can opt to blow him away with a contract offer or let him walk. I'm just glad I held off on buying a Cousins jersey.

I am curious to know if the line in BA's letter about not receiving any counter offers is accurate. You can't negotiate against yourself, that is a basic tenet of negotiation, so IF KC and his agent didn't make counter offers than it really was in the team's best interest to wait.

But he didn't get as much as he can while he can. If he blows out a knee, he and his agent basically forfeited 50 million dollars. That's still a nice chunk of change.

He turned down tons of money. So he was either lying his ass off about not being about money or just really does not want to play here. Either way, I'd get rid of him. He'll either break our bank or take his franchise money and run.

I'd imagine him not signing will cause animosity with his teammates too.

What is the contingency plan IF Kirk leaves next year?
Colt McCoy?

Not having another QB in the pipeline has been my gripe for awhile now.

Every franchise, especially WCO, should always have developmental QBs in the que especially since they've been doing this dance with Kirk for 2 seasons now.

IF Kirk is playing elsewhere and there isn't a viable QB under center then heads should roll.
