Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
I answered my own question -- we get nothing for Breeland because he wasn't signed by anyone as of May 8: https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/deadline-passes-without-contract-offer-between-redskins-and-bashaud-breeland
And we didn't do a tender (I wonder why) by which we could get a compensatory pick. |

Sucks for him, and for us, having him back for 1M would have been one hell of a bargain, even with every body expecting 3rd round pick Moreau to step it up. |

They had to like him a bit, they started him outside over Fuller. I understand not wanting to pay him 10M/y when you think you have a solution with Moreau/Dunbar, and you're already spending 15M/y on Norman, but you're telling if they knew he'd be healthy before the season starts, they wouldn't want him for 1M ? |

Straight out of rumor central:
Was listening to WTOP on the way home from work today and they were reporting Scott Campbell is leaving the Redskins. Unfortunately after searching WTOP and other credible sources the only link I can find comes from the rag of PFT, which may be where WTOP got it from. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/05/09/washington-parts-ways-with-scott-campbell/ Until I see another source reporting it I'm not taking it as fact... yet. |

Had heard a little while back that Scott was considering leaving after this draft. So this isn't a big surprise. role had changed; still had input... Had been with organization since 2001. Brings energy/passion among other attributes to the job. Had a good draft too. Scott Campbell didn’t do anything for me, I like what Kyle Smith did this year and might have his hand in last year’s draft also.

Redskins profile stated Kyle became director of scouting for college in last year and so far the drafts seems to be good so far. I don't think I am too concerned about this change |

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
Not even sure how Campbell survived all those years working for Snyder. He should be given a medal just for that.
|
Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
At first I had him confused with Eric Schaffer and panicked.
Then I realized who Campbell was and was significantly relieved. As to Campbell, not seeing a big loss. Got the feeling, and I may be way off, that he always stuck me as a JAG of scouting. In the bio provided his big finds are Moses, T. Murphy, S. Long, Scherff, & Crowder. He may be the guy for the first three but pretty sure it was McCloughan on Scherff and Crowder. |

Kyle Smith ran the 2018 draft.

14 signed UDFAs and 46 tryouts rookies at Redskin Park this weekend. Hopefully they can find 2 or 3 more sleepers.

Man we have the most fucking injuries ever, camp hasn't even started and we already lose a guy wtf |
Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
There are definitely comparable players to Arie Kouandjio available currently in free agency. Keep in mind this is us losing a replacement-level player. No impact on our 2018 season. Vegas will not adjust any of our odds one iota because of this.

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
Are there any good LG that might be available for trade?

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
Time to watch Shawn Lauvao perform like the worst LG in the league....again. Kujo had the best chance to unseat him and start.
Welp, maybe one of our 5, 6, 7?, udfa interior olineman can step up. Watching the post june cut list, but we could have easily gotten a serviceable vet guard to come in provide a presence in free agency. |

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
Way too much crying over the LG in May. Of all the positions in the NFL this has to be one of the most dime a dozen guys. Sure there are some elites, but we weren't paying any elite guard when we have 2 elite and 2 strong players on the line already. Our line, when TW and Scherff are healthy is dominant, just look at the running stats behind those guys. Not losing any gray hairs to a weaker guard next to TW, none, zero, zilch.

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
he has been below average for at least the last 2 seasons. again, this is piss poor managing

What about weaker guard next to a 2nd year rookie C who really wasn't great last year? Our Oline has been collapsed in both run and pass blocking from the defense lining up over the LG and C on a consistent basis for the last 2 years. Im saying its a problem |

Joe Berger just retired but Jahri Evans G and Brian Schwenke C still are available and have solid PFF grades, so I'm sure we could find solid 1 year solutions via FA, do not see the need to give value away. I'm getting a bit scared they're confortable with Lauvao starting... I sure hope either Nsekhe or Sean Welsh steals the starting job! |

Its not Kujo..its more putting up with Lauvao.

Somebody says exactly that every off-season. It's not you every time is it? No, I don't think every issue can be solved every off-season but this particular problem has been present at least several years. Has fixing LG been last on the list for the last three years in a row? If so, please don't tell me because I still have fond memories of HOF'er Russ Grimm. As for the President, he could at least get rid of that orange caterpillar on his head, couldn't he? |
Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
Wow. The injury bug bites early. And I imagine it will bite often, given our luck.
At least it's early enough to get someone else. Better now than late preseason. |

Kujo play last year gave us some hope....not that is was outstanding, but a couple games he was decent. With S.L., there is no unknown. Big injury history and bad play. He's done imo. Forget where...probably Keim...had blurb about Kujo future saying "he was gonna be brought back and given a chance at LG". So at least the Skins were saying they liked what saw enough to bring him back...S.L. was the emergency signing after the draft.... |

Our Oline has been collapsed in both run and pass blocking from the defense lining up over the LG and C on a consistent basis for the last 2 years. Im saying its a problem
I disagree. 1) how do you have a 2nd year rookie? 2) Here is PFF's ranking in week 5 last year before the injuries:
5. WASHINGTON REDSKINS Average offensive lineman grade: 71.6 Even though LT Trent Williams is not playing at the level that he did last season when he was the best offensive tackle in football, no one is playing well below average on a line that does not seem to have a weak link at this point. The unit ranks eighth in pass-blocking efficiency with a rating of 81.1, allowing just four sacks on the season, tied for the sixth-fewest. In addition, they have been among the best run-blocking units as well, which is highlighted by the fact that their runners get 2.17 yards before contact, fourth-most in the league.
Here is our ranking after the injuries:
21. WASHINGTON REDSKINS Total pressures surrendered: 181 Best player: Brandon Scherff Combinations used: 27 While Washington fielded two elite offensive linemen to start the season in left tackle Trent Williams and right guard Brandon Scherff, both of them struggled to stay on the field in 2017. As a matter of fact, the entire Washington line was marred by injuries a season ago as a whopping 11 offensive linemen played at least 140 snaps for the Redskins in 2017. The injuries had their impact and the Washington offensive line never really got into rhythm over the season. Redskins running backs averaged just 1.29 yards before contact, the fifth-fewest in the NFL while the unit allowed 25 sacks on the season, tied for the sixth-most.
(emphasis mine) 3) Roullier was mostly given him a middle of the pack grade as a rookie. He can definitely improve this year. |
