I really don't mind the McPhee signing I think it might be ok for us ,but as long we can still go after Hankins that's who I really want for us just hope we can sign both if not then I don't want him .
I agree with you. But I don't think we are financially strapped to a point we can sign only one of those two players; we still can restructure few players' contract to free up more money. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
I feel confident that we'll sign a run-stuffing DL. Hankins would be a great signing for us but, if we can't land him, I read somewhere that the Skins are staying in touch with Bennie Logan. So, perhaps we could land Logan. I think he could help us.
Like just about everyone else here, I would love to have Hankins. Git 'er done! |

McPhee for Galette is basically a wash.

I’m interested to see if the Oline can actually be worse personnel wise going into preseason.
We trending that way....and without a running game, Alex smith will struggle |

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
We had a pretty hard time stopping the run last year. But when Allen was healthy we rushed the passer well. I for one am glad to see the more well rounded skill set in McPhee.
I was all about Galette, but then saw how poor he was against the run. Just not stout enough to set an edge. |

We have no starting left guard, a second year starter at center and no interior depth worth a shit. And it wasn’t a shot at Alex smith, but the down field passing game tends to open up when you have the NFL’s leading rusher in your backfield. Opponents tend play more one and one on the outside and stack the line. Also you have obviously more options in the red zone when you run the ball effectively. It’s really simple...not shedding light on anything new. It’s not a shock the eagles lead the league in rushing. |

Ty N. is a very good swing tackle, but injuries are becoming a concern and he's getting up there in age. Kouandjo (sp?) is ok depth, but they let him walk last year and only brought him back when the s hit the fan. Hopefully these younger guys can be coached up, but depth is definitely a ? I think they need to replace some depth guys, but I think you're right that last year was just more proof that they can.

The Broncos still might cut CJ Anderson in a salary cap move. He is a very good all-around back, IMO. Hopefully, the Skins might see if they can make a trade with Denver to pick him up. |

Just saying maybe they can be coached up, but the depth was really bad last year along the Oline. |

I disagree. If you have a o-line then backs can be found. The Ravens picked up Alex Collins off the scrap heap and he almost had a 1,000 yards plus a 4.6 average. I'd prefer we draft Nelson from Notre Dame if he's BPA when we pick. Apparently he's an elite run blocker and we couldn't get a half a yard when needed. O-line was the staple of what use to win around here. Remember Doug? |

That's very true although even you must admit, our RBs beside Thompson are lacking in playmaking dept. I would be fine with drafting Nelson if he's there when it's our time to pick someone but I don't see how it can happen. Edit: I would not oppose to the idea of trading back so we can pick up 3rd round pick and draft a guard. Don't forget we have Callahan; I say we follow whatever he wants to do - if he wants to go with a UFA rookie then so be it. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
If we somehow could land Q Nelson, our problems would be solved on the OLINE, But that isn't going to happen. I am surprised we haven't looked at sitton yet.

Little to no chance Nelson falls that far but he would certainly be a no brainer for us.

My point is that gives a coach like Callahan a real good idea of what depth he's got there. It's not really fair to judge an Oline once the injuries start piling up because the best olines are those that have time together and a group cohesiveness. We didn't have that last year, so each player had to hold their own, and for the most part they were up to the task - if we had running backs that could have helped out. Barring another injury plagued oline year (and who knows if it will be or not) Im willing to bet that the oline of TW ? CR BS MM, will be a very good one. |

Injuries really hurt, but come on...the depth on the Oline is unacceptable, much like the play of Spencer Long and Luavou when they played last year. The running game isn't a simple fix...its both the Oline play AND the lack of talent in the back field. The blocking at TE is an embarrassment as well...Vernon Davis shoulda been cut. Im just looking at FA and see we done zero to address it. Im really hoping for a big draft for the Offense...we are really gonna miss that 3rd round pick this year. |

The only starting spot needed is LG, and they will address it. Last year you had All 3 tackles, and your probowl worthy RG out for multiple games at a shot last year. We were literally calling guys off the street on Monday and lining them up Sunday. Quite simply it was like Callahan had a half of a season of preseason lineups, and I expect that he studied the film on the guys, and has a plan in place. I think we will see an early DT, an early RB and a LG in the draft plus some undrafted FA's. I would love to see Nelson fall, but that's not happening. And LG is definitely a position that many undrafted free agents have become successful NFL Players. No need to break our draft board for multiple OL players. |

However, if it wasn't a situation in which multiple guys not usually part of the starting lineup all playing at once, then it would have been serviceable production. You just can't expect your back up lineman to be the same caliber as starters, and if you have a patch work line terrible is kind of expected. Over the past several years when 1 or 2 of our starting guys was out of the lineup our backup guys came in and held their own next to the starters. It's not a certainty, but given that we remained competitive with walkons and won games even, I think the guys we have performed to a level similar to our depth in recent seasons. I could be wrong, but that is my impression. I would like to see some other developmental potential future starters though, similar to bringing in Moses, Long, etc. You can find those guys in mid to late rounds. But using their performance last year after injuries wiped out our first, second and third string linemen, to illustrate your point is pushing it — a lot. It‘s hard to expect high level, or even average, performance from someone who was out of football the week prior to starting. There is no team in the NFL that has the depth to cover that level of injuries at one position group. |

You don't need to take someone in the 1st or 2nd round to do that. I think we're fine w/Bibbs. He can do a little bit of everything. I just feel like you have to solidify the line over getting a back. Besides, just about every team does a back by committee. The Patriots have been doing it for years. |

They were straightforward. No one is saying that our depth is probowl talent, you won't get that when you pull a guy off the street and play him on Sunday. But 4 of our starters are solid, 2 are PB/AllPro quality. You draft a LG, you pick the best 2-3 potentials and get some undrafted guys in to compete. |

Still not a good strategy, imo. Redskins offense is heavily designed around Reed - since he always gets injured, we need someone to step in and provide productivity that is at least close to what Reed can provide and we know Davis can give us that. As of right now, we have Reed, Davis and Sprinkle. We cut Davis and Reed gets injured (likely to happen again at some point), we will depend on Sprinkle and other rookie to step in? |

The entire TE position needs to be overhauled. Can't do it this year, but hopefully next year they address it. I guess they've already started by not bringing Paul back. You can not go into a season with Davis and Reed and expect to be able to have a running game. Really both of them need to go.

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
I wonder if Reed could play WR if he dropped about 10 or 15 lbs. I'm serious too. They split him out enough so play his ass out there so he doesn't have to deal with any LB's. He might be able to block NFL DB's. Asking him to block a NFL LB is like asking a gazelle to fight a lion. It ain't a fair fight.

I feel that with all of these signings, the team can have more flexibility in the draft. Also, signing Hankins wouldn't count against us getting compensatory picks next offseason, since he was cut by Indy. |
